What Are "Good" Grades?

OK, I was a super-nerd in school. I always got top grades and was never satisfied with less than an A ... The trick is that now my daughter is in 4th grade and starting to receive letter grades. Obviously it's too much to expect straight A's from her - I don't want to put all that pressure on her (I never recall my family expecting all A's from me - it was a self-imposed pressure). But I really have no idea what to consider 'good' grades, what to praise, and what to feel like might need a little work. I know that grades don't tell it...

He Was Supposed to Have 10 Day Suspension

I posted earlier about my son getting his first suspension. I spoke with the teacher and principal again and found out more to the story. My son was playing with blocks and this little kid came up and started messing with his blocks. My son asked for him to stop and the kid went to the teacher and tattled on my son for not sharing. So my son got worked up (crying) at that point b/c it wasn't that he wasn't sharing, he just didn't want the kid touching the specific blocks that were in his tower. The teacher asked for the boys to go...

Anyone Have Any Insight on the "IB" Schooling Program?

My son will be starting kindergarten in the fall so I am just starting to look at schools. I see that there are gifted programs and there are IB programs. Does anyone have any information on a IB school. Apparently kids start in IB in kindergarten. How would I know if my child was appropriate for one of these programs. Obviously I think that my child is bright, but he has never been formally evaluated...

Meet the Teacher Day Question

My son is starting kindergarten and next week is our first "meet the teacher" day. Is it ok or customary for the child to bring something (a small gift) for their teacher on this day? What about the first day of school? I started school in the Soviet Union where the first day of school was a major event across the entire country, with children bringing flowers and gifts to their teachers. I know this is not done in the US, but was wondering about "meet the teacher" day expectations. Thanks in advance for your replies.

I love to read. I have finished the Hunger Games Trilogy in a week. I just finished all three Fifty Shades book in a week.... I have read most of Jodi Piccoult, Greg Isles, James Patterson .... Anyone have any good series or authors that they can suggest. I would realy like something that has several books to the series. Something that will keep me busy for more than a week.

Should I Be Honest with Principal

We decided our dd is not going on the out of town trip because the teacher she is assigned to doesn't,t properly supervise the class bully and our child doesn't.t want to go. She will have this teacher for some classes the next two years and would hold a grudge. The woman made the bully and the bullied spend time together and do trust exercises! The principal will be upset and want to fix it but I think this teacher is a dud. She also gave a project over spring break and we had to delay our trip which shows bad judgement too.
