Wildwood Vs. Ocean City, NJ Vacation

My husband and I want to take our almost 2-year-old to the Jersey shore for the first time. We're thinking of staying only two nights now that we see how expensive it is for motel rooms this time of year. We've heard that Ocean City is better than Wildwood to take kids, but it also seems that there are far fewer motels/hotels in OC, and they are more expensive. We're thinking we have to book now for the end of July, or it will be too late. Any opinions on Wildwood vs. OC, or suggestions of hotels?

What can I do next?

It could very well be too late. However, I vote on OC over Wildwood. I teach high school and it seems Wildwood is where all of my graduates get homes for "senior week" which is actually senior summer... of drinking and getting arrested! :o) Have you thought about the DE beaches? I love Rehoboth. Though it's thought to be only a gay beach, it is gay friendly, but very family friendly as well!

Ocean city is more family oriented. To be honest wildwood is pretty junky.

Have you ever tried ocean city, md? I loved it so much i want to go back. It was very clean and not too expensive. They had a splash and save deal that was well worth it.

Ocean City is very family oriented. It's a dry town, so it does not attract those looking to booze it up. Wildwood will have a lot of older teens and young 20s roaming the boardwalk. Ocean City has a lot of families. Good luck with the planning!

I haven't gone to often, but I loved North Wildwood when we took our son. We stayed at a very reasonably priced hotel right on the boardwalk. The rides there are much more reasonable than the rides in OC too. Adults don't need tickets to go on kiddie rides in North Wildwood. The beaches are also free in North Wildwood where I believe they are not in OC. I wish I could suggest a hotel, but I can't remember where I stayed. The closer you are to the boardwalk the more likely it will be safe.

Hi...I agree with the first response...OC,NJ has been the best for our family for the past 10-15 years but I did a search in OC,MD and found it to be much more reasonable in price and more accomodations....my SIL has gone to both and really liked OC,MD. Have fun!! M.
