Summary

Depending on the age of the child, some like to give children's Bible story books or videos, worship music CD. Baptism presents tend toward keepsakes - silver cups and spoons, photo albums and frames, fancy piggy banks would be a great idea besides money and saving bonds.

Oh, there are zillions of other choices. Baptism presents *tend* toward keepsakes - silver cups and spoons, photo albums and frames, fancy piggy banks, engraved nameplates for the child's bedroom door, etc. In fact, those engraving shops and kiosks have a great many baptism-style gifts just waiting to be engraved... in a huge range of prices.

At Make It Yours there are a number of items you could make -cross box, cross to hang, - by painting the pottery or you could make a really unique cross from fused glass. These are things that the child can keep and use for years, (and in the spirit of full disclosure I am the owner of Make It Yours and would be glad to help you. Stop in and mention this response and I will also give you 10% off.)

How old is the child being baptized? That makes a difference. Some are baptized as infants, some later. Some as adults.

But December stores have a lovely assortment. Or a Christian bookstore/family store. I'm sure they'd have something appropriate.

"Jesus, bless this little girl and keep her always in your care."
Hallmark has a nice selection of religious gifts. You could also check their website.

I recently attended a First Communion and gave a savings bond. The only catch is that you need the social security number of the person to whom you are giving it.

The best gift for a infant baptism is a keepsake. I think it's something you want the child to remember year to come. My children received children's Bibles, Prayer Books and wall hangings that were great gifts. I applaud you for not giving money b/c for me that is exactly what Baptism is not about.

Hi A.,

My children received a child's version of the bible. I am assuming the person making their baptism is a baby or a child and that is why I suggested this. My children have referred to the bible repeatedly and it has been such a lovely gift.

Warm regards,

M.

When my oldest was baptized my Sister-in-Law got her a glass, or ceramic not sure without looking at, cross that has a scripture verse on the base and a spot to put a picture of her in her gown right in the center of the cross. Other friends just got her toys to play with. Not the most typical, or for that matter religious, but she loved them. She still loves her cross though as well. Her God-parents got her a small cross necklace and a nice adjustable bracelet. I would recommend going to a Christian bookstore and seeing what they have there. You never know what little object you might find. I know that they typically have some religious type gifts as well.

I just went to a first communion party for a little girl. We went to the Carlton Card shop in the mall and they had a lot of little statues and gifts specifically for the two occasions (both 1st communion and baptism). I was impressed and it gave me some great options at various price points!!! Good luck!!

My oldest son received a first bible story book and once he got older, we read a story from it each night. The gift was used for many years to come.
I've also seen a 'sacraments' box at Decemeber's. It is a nicely decorated box that they can use to keep all the keepsakes from all of the sacraments that they celebrate. ie. candles, booklets, pins, special cards from family, etc.
Good Luck!

If you just do not want to give them money they would go out and spend you could give them the gift of a 529 account donation to assist with the child's college expenses. My child's godparents donate to that instead of giving toys considering our children have plenty of them.

Here are some of the things my children received when they were Baptized: child's rosary, picture book of saints, framed cross-stitch baptismal poem with name and date, baptismal plaque with area for baptismal photo, children's bible, specially made photo album, crucifix for their bedroom wall, jewelry (girls received charms for a bracelet and son received a lapel pin), prayer books, children's religious videos (veggie tales are popular now)etc. Perhaps the most unique gift from my daughter's Godmother was a lilac bush. My daughter is 14 now and we take her picture next to her lilac bush every year around the time of her Baptism--it's amazing to see how much both have "bloomed" over the years. Sure hope this helps :)

P.S. I see that another Mom suggested a savings bond---DON'T GET BONDS!!!! They now take an average of 17 years to mature and are barely worth the paper they're printed on. My banker friend tries very hard to not sell them and suggests other types of investments instead. I learned the hard way when I had hoped to cash in several for my oldest daughter for college. I was still under the impression that they matured in only 7 years :(

Our very favorite baptism gift we've received (and given) was the wooden rosary for kids. Someone else has mentioned that, with large beads in primary colors. We have picked a couple up at a local Catholic store (in Waterford). Children bible is an excellent gift. We received WAY too many frames and albums for each of our boys' baptisms. I also do embroidery at home. I recently embroidered a hankerchief with an inscription on it, example, "Ava, Blessings on Your Baptism Day" (white on white). It can be kept and used for wedding day. The parents loved it!

My children received savings bonds from their godparents. I have given Baby Bibles with their names, date of baptism, Pastor's name, and godparents/witnesses. At out church, we give each child or adult a baptism candle to light on the anniversary of their baptism. I know there are already ideas about books, gift card, and frames. My daughter also received a cross (not crucifix--He isn't there anymore is my philosophy) necklace or you could give a baby ring. There are so many things that can be given that help a child and family remember such an awesome and special day. I think it is great that you want to do something with memories and not money.

We just had our baptism. We got lots of bonds from family. One gift we got is a music snowglobe its got a little boy with a teddy and sailboat in it and when you wind up it moves.
The person who got it for us paid for the engraving but left it up to us what we want on it. They got it at Things Remembered in the mall, they left the price on it was $30.00 plus engraving.

I'm not sure if this is for a boy or a girl or how much you are looking to spend.

Precious Moments makes a nice baptism doll if it is for a girl.

Any Christian Book Store will have plaques, Bibles (that have been written in with names baptism dates and so forth) and other nice things that will work for either a girl or boy.

Maybe a nice picture of the person in a frame that has to do with baptism - if you're into scrap booking and can decorate an insert for the frame?

Good Luck, I hope something here helps,

K.

I like to buy pewter baby cups. You can have the child's name(first name only or first and middle names)and birthday engraved on it if you want. Since I have 12 nieces and nephews, I have purchased LOTS of these! I had a cup as a kid and my mother inlaw gave me my husband's baby cup as a bridal shower gift--that was sooooo cool!
I have found them at our local independent jewelry store and I have seen them at personalcreations.com Another nice idea is a frame with the child's baptism date on it. Personal creations have several to choose from too. have fun shopping!

A small gardian angel medallion necklace.

A small cross necklace. (Macys)

A precious moments baby girl cross. (Family Christian Store- There is one by Great Lakes Crossing and another by Lakeside)

An engraved snowglobe of a little girl praying. (Things Remembered)

A book called "The Day I was Baptised" where we could write about the day's events.
