What to Do About Snoring Husband

Hi all~ My husband and I have been happily married for almost 5 years. We have a wonderful, loving relationship and a great kid. Everything is great except his snoring has gotten worse. Usually at night I'll just shake the bed or ask him to turn over. He is starting to get frustrated at me and is asking me to suck it up or sleep on the couch. He has done the couch in the past. The only position he doesn't snore with is sleeping on his stomach (I know he can't sleep that way all night). I think it's getting worse (the snoring). I don't want to have to revert to sleeping separately just so we can both get some sleep! I have asked him to see a doctor, he refuses. I don't think it's sleep apnea and he's not overweight. His father is a terrible snorer too (I've heard him). Any advice for a sleep deprived mom/wife?

What can I do next?

Hi! Same problem here. Hasn't gotten worse though, just still the same. It always helps if I have a chance to fall asleep first. Otherwise, if you want rest for the both of you, you are (or he is) probably going to have to use a guest bed or other place to sleep. My husband gets mad when I wake him up from snoring, how backwards is that? Who is waking who up, I say? If he is unwilling to take it seriously and see a doctor or try other things on the market for snoring, in consideration for you, keep talking about it. It can really affect a marriage to sleep in different beds! Good luck...

I have the same problem. I have been married for 15 years and his problem has gotten worse. My husband has not been to a doctor about it either. I do the same thing, shaking the bed or him :) Have you tried the breath right strips? They usually work for my husband, every now and then he will still snore with them. It is very frustrating when we run out because I have to live with the snoring again. Even if my husband moves to the couch I can still hear him. If I can go ahead and fall asleep the snoring doesn't bother me because it doesn't wake me up. But if I happen to wake up or he starts snoring before I fall asleep :(

In reference to you looking for playgroups maybe you could try joining CafeMom.com and join a Durham group. Thats a good way to get to know other moms. I belong to the Granville County group. Good Luck!!

Been married 43+ years. Some ideas: 1)When the snoring is simply annoying, kiss him. He will always move and stop for awhile. Other activities may ensue, but that's okay, too. 2) Earplugs help, the soft squishy kind. 2) white noise machine. I have tinnitus now, and it also masks the snoring. 3)If it's too hard, get up and sleep elsewhere. This has happened a few times and it isn't the end of the world. 4)Try to get him to sleep in a slightly elevated position (2 pillows or even 3. Sometimes that helps.) 5) Go to bed before him and get to sleep. By the time he gets there, you won't care. Bottom line, you gotta love him. :-)

He may have a serious sleep disorder, where he does not always breathe. I would bet he is overweight. I was diagnosed with one several yrs ago, and the cpap machine has made a big difference. My hubby never complained, so I assumed I did not snore. When this all came up, and I asked, he said I did. A sleep study will tell you whether or not he has it. Good luck.
