Hello,
I am looking for a good soft bed. I wondered if anyone could reccemend one. I saw one that I liked but it was quite expensive and I wondered if anyone has one and if they like it. It is a tempurpedic. I guess Oprah really likes this certain bed. I just don't want to buy it and find out I don't like it.
Thanks for your input.

I thought i had a soft bed and box frame but after it arrived

we have a sleep number bed and i personally love it. you can adjust it to the softness that you want. and there is a factory that refurbishes them (which is what we have) so it is significantly cheaper. good luck!

You need a good bed! With 6 kids, that is a worthy investment. We bought one (Tempurpedic) and love it. We went to a Slumber Land outlet place and asked a sales person to watch for one to come in on clearance. Sometimes the old floor models are sold at great discounts, once in a while there is a return. Anyway, we really love ours.

We have also done the air bed route. We really like that at first because we could set our own side the way we wanted. We got ours over the internet for much less than the name brand. The only thing with that is that they tend to end up with mold problems. This happened with us and it was pretty bad. I know how to avoid it now, but I am happy with my tempurpedic.

I've had a bad back for 20 years and I tried everything to ease my pain and nothing worked until I got the select comfort bed. You adjust it with a "sleep number" that fits you. Most of the time my number stays the same but if I reinjur my back and need it softer or firmer to help temporarily, I can. It is spendy but It has allowed me to sleep pain free for the first time in 20 years!!

The Tempurpedic bed is a good bed. I will say that my friends who have one love it. The down side is the bed keeps you warm. So if you are a person who is "hot blooded" this bed has a down side.

My husband and I have a sleep number bed with pillow top. I love this bed!

I love my tempurpedic bed! It was fabulous when I was pregnant, I never was disrupted during the night for lack of comfort. (Going to the bathroom all night was another story...) :) It will be a little more hard at first, you have to walk on it for a week or so to soften it up. You will get used to it. I love the pillows as well. I have never seen them on sale, but you get additional add on like the mattress protector and pillows for free. Shop around.

We got a Tempurpedic bed earlier this year and now love it. I will say, though, that I wouldn't consider it a soft bed. It took some getting used to ... but now that I am used to this type of bed I had a hard time sleeping on a normal mattress. We also got the Tempurpedic pillows which are very hard compared to the feather pillow I was using for years. Again, it took some adjusting on my part but now I prefer it.

Good luck!

I like our Kingsdown mattress. We've had it about 7 years. It was about $1100. At the time they came rated in different numbers (I think 1 was the softest and 4 was the firmest or something like that) and they had you lay on the mattress and ran some computer program to test the appropriate softness. We had to compromise a little because my husband likes a firmer mattress than I do. I guess that's the advantage of the sleep number bed, but I was concerned about the sleep number bed malfunctioning, esp. since we have boys who like to wrestle on the bed.

My husband and I invested in a Sleep Comfort bed, you know the one with the numbers. Anyway, we can adjust each side to our own liking, (I like mine soft.) I know that they are pricey, but we think it was worth it! You could always go to the stores and try them out!

Hi D.. I bet a temperpedic would be a comfy bed. I'm not really sure what a good soft bed would be. I like my bed, but it is not a memory foam bed, so not sure if I can help you there. Good luck!

I used to sell mattress and I like the Simmons best. But any good mattress set will run $1000.00-$2000.00, I know that sounds expensive but if you divide it out for the life of a mattress set ( 10 years ) it's not that bad. Memory foam is a buzz word in the industry today it does nothing for comfort because it squashes down to nothing when you lay or sit on it. It goes back to shape right away so you matress doesn't look like it is sagging. Also memory foam retains heat so it is hot. If you are a person who gets cold easy and can't sleep when you are cold you will like this but if you are warm all the time or hitting menapause and experiencing hot flashes it will make you feel worse.
The best way to choose a mattress is to lay on it and roll around and see if this is comfortable. Remember though that any new mattress will feel better than your old one because the old one is worn out.
I hope this helps.

I was reading some of the replies you have been getting. I am 37 years old and paid all that money for a tempurpedic (spelled that wrong) bed and I sent it back. It was awful. My husband has back problems and I don't and it made both of us feel worse. I went to our local mattress company (Lebeda) and got a pillow top set. Not the cheapy $300, not the $1200, but the $600 and we just love it. My husband's lower back (disc wise) is all messed up and my back is fine and we both love it. Don't waste your time on anything else! Good luck!

I have a boring-ol'-plain-jane mattress =) But I'm passing on something that I heard when we were discussing buying a new mattress: Don't buy a pillow top mattress. You won't be able to flip the mattress over periodically like you're supposed to, because the pillow top is only on one side (the top, obviously! lol)

I cannot say enough good things about the select comfort sleep number beds. They are great. Just the fact that you can control your own side whileyour spouse control's theirs is enough to make me suggest it to others. My husband has back problems and once we got ours he has been sleeping better than he has in years. Having it while pregnant was also a God send. Just being able to adjust my side as the tummy grew & I had to change sleeping postions was phemoninal. They are a bit pricy but it is worth the money.

We have a tempurpedic and love it. I have always had back pain when I get up in the morning, but now that we have the new bed I don't! I will agree that the tempurpedic can feel warm for some people. I love that it keeps me warm but my husband does complain a bit about that in the summer months. One other thing: we spent the extra money for the "delux" (or whatever they call it) bed frame and hated it because it squeaked when ... um...ya know. :) We even had the company come out to see if they could fix it but that didn't work. We ended up just putting the new mattress on our old bed frame and that worked great. Don't spend the extra money!

Have fun shopping,

S.

I just bought a Temperpedic bed from Hom furntiture. I absolutely love it and figure it may cost more but if it lasts as long as the 20 year warrenty it will pay off in the end. Just think cost per night instead of cost per mattress.

The only drawback is my kids call it the melty bed and always want to sleep on it. They however don't like that it's not springy so they can't jump on it. Of course that's a bonus to me!

I looked into buying a tempurpedic bed and the sales lady at a furniture store talked me out of it. She said that they are very expensive and not worth the money. I guess that they are not all that they are supposed to be. Bad for your back and such. I have a sealy posturpedic that I absolutely love. It was much more reasonable price wise and it also has a 30 year guarentee. I love it.

My husbands entire family is completly sold on tempurpedic beds. His parents and three sisters all have one. He wants one too, but I didn't care for it, especially when I was pregnant. We have only slept on them while visiting family in Michigan, random weeks at a time. I think they have a 60 day trial. I would try it before commiting to keeping it.
I am pretty sure I would not like one, but many people think they are great. I know my parents bought something slightly similar, but more like a regular bed from Slumberland.
good luck!

We bought our bed 2 yrs ago and I have to tell you it is by far the best and most soft and comfortable bed I or my husband have ever slept on. We got it at denver mattress and it is called the Telluride. It is not the one that the dr promotes for them on their commercials. I tried that one and it was definitely not my choice. But the telluride is by far the most comfortable bed. It is also one of those beds that if my husband turns over or gets out of bed I can't feel him moving around. You have to go to denver mattress and tryout this bed...I highly recommend it.

My husband and I purchased a Tempurpedic bed at the beginning of April. My husband was suffering from severe back pain from an accident 20+ years ago, he would barely be able to get out of bed most mornings and would suffer all day long with the pain. We received our mattress (we only purchased the mattress and put it on our old box springs) on a Wednesday and by the weekend he had no more pain.

I personally didn't think I had any issues sleeping on our old mattress, but I do think that it has improved my sleep quality. I don't seem to be waking up in the middle of the night like I used to. We both really really like it and think that it was worth the investment.

If you order the mattress/bed directly from Tempurpedic, they will give you a 20 year warranty on it.

Hope this was helpful.

I would definitely recommend a Tempurpedic bed. It is amazing for your back and body. The bed is much different than a regular bed and it will take a week or two to get used to, but then you'll love it! Plus they have (I believe) a trial period that you can try it and see if you like it. There is definitely a reason why Oprah likes it! If you are really looking for an investment in a good bed that will last a LONG time, then Tempurpedic is the way to go.

On a side note, my parents and brothers are the ones with the Tempurpedic beds... I bought a "knock-off" type of Tempurpedic, and it's definitely not the same! It dents down in the middle after only a few nights of sleeping on it. I would definitely spend the money to get a Tempurpedic instead!!!
