We will be traveling to TX soon for about one week, staying with a friend. My son, who is about 22 mos. has outgrown his pack-n-play to the point where he tosses and turns all night in it and cannot get comfortable. He does not do well in a regular bed yet either -- he doesn't "go down" well unless confined and then moves around so much in his sleep he ends up falling out of bed, usually more than once per night.
Ok, ladies, any suggestions? I'm willing to buy whatever will work, just so we can all get a good night sleep while we are away! My husband travels A LOT, so I forsee a lot of use out of this potential solution.

We traveled to Colorado last summer and used a service called "Baby's Away" and rented a crib for where we were staying. It was a lifesaver. Maybe where you're going has a similar service.
how about a portable bed rail?? do a google search and you will see this product....i looked at target and there was one for $29.99. here is the product description: Ultra compact fold reduces bed rail to a faction of its actual set up size
probably great for travel and hotel stays...
We've got the deluxe travel n trundle from OneStepAhead.com. It's more like a regular bed, but it has foam sides to help keep our little guy from rolling out. (He just turned 2). We've been using this for travel for at least 6 months and love it. It's light and easy, but it is pretty bulky. Good luck!
Do you have the travel pack n play or the full sized one? The travel one is a lot smaller. They do have portable cribs at Babies R Us on wheels but it's smaller than a regular crib. Kind of like the full sized pack n play. Try one out and see if it works for you.
I don't kow if this would work and contain a toddler. But I have the Kid Co. Pea Pod Plus Travel bed and have used it several times for my now 11 month old. We just used it last weekend! It is available on amazon and target.com. It is like a little tent with mesh sides that zips closed from the outside. It has a mattress that inflates with a small hand pump. It folds to the size of a hat box and I usually put it in my luggage.
I would just sleep with him for a week in the bed you'll be sleeping in, if it's big enough (double or queen). My hubby and I travel with our daughter alot, and where ever we go, we just have her sleep with us. Someday, she'll want her own space, but for now, a week isn't long enough for them to get hooked on you and traveling on vacation is different anyway, especially when you're not in your own bed, etc. We traveled with my daughter when she was under 2 and only once we had a pack-n-play and hated it, so she just slept with us and has ever since. :)
We use big pillows and rolled up blankets to keep her in. We've also pushed the bed up to a corner against 2 walls to help lesson the chances of falling off.
I purchased a cot from Ikea (cheap), it has been a life saver. It fits in the car for those overnight trips, and we break it out when we have a child stay at our place. It is nice that no one has to stay on the floor.
Are you driving? If so, you could consider a port-a-crib? They are a little smaller than a regular crib, but not as small as a pack and play. Or maybe your friend could rent a crib and mattress in TX and you could reimburse the cost. That is what my in-laws do for us since my daughter refuses to sleep in her pack and play (she is 21 months old). Good luck!

We purchased the Aero Inflatable beds for kids (one step ahead has a similar one), it has raised sides, so the kids can't roll out. It has been a life saver for us - now my kids can actually stay overnight at Grandmas!
