Tennis Shoe - Sneakers

I know everyone calls them something different - that's why I said tennis shoes and sneakers

I am on the hunt for new tennis shoes...most likely cross trainers...I am currently in a pair of Nike Cross Trainers. They are about 4 years old, maybe five...I have a high arch and they can be "tight" sometimes...I have joined the Roger Mack Boot Camp - two sessions so far and enjoy it!! but I feel like my shoes need to be better. I need to get more active - other than walking my dog and going shopping! :)

I would like to keep them under $150 - I know that's a lot of money. But I do wear my shoes A LOT and a long time. So looking at it that way - it's not a lot of money to buy a quality pair of shoes.

Do you have a pair that you love?

What can I do next?

FYI, my irish hubby just calls them trainers!

I am a fan of New Balance. I have a pair for kick boxing and one for walking. Super comfy, great support for older feet :-)

I went to Nike.com and designed my own Shox. I have a wide foot, and was able to make them a wide width.
They are amazing!

top two brands for running/cross training - New Balance and Asics.
I am more of a runner who also lifts I love running shoes because of high arches and narrow feet. Nikes are a too wide for me and my heel pops out when training, but I like to just wear them around.
When I taught aerobics I used avias. They were ok. Really flat, though.
go to a Famous footwear and test out all the brands. I like the prices there, too. they usually sell last season's colors of Asics, but totally worth it to keep it under $100.
Note, running shoes are made to throw your weight forward (hence the slope) cross trainers are designed for side-to-side lateral motion and are flat and more built up on sides. If your boot camp is more running with plyometrics and weights, running shoes should be OK. If you are doing more like basketball training and tires, etc. you'll want something less sloped. Good luck!

I recently had a pair of Saucony sneakers and then New Balance once the old ones wore out. I have a wider foot so those have proven to be wide foot friendly for me, especially when there is a Wide option. My biggest advice, outside of the shoe brand is to designate the new shoes for workouts specifically. I have a pair of shoes that are for working out ONLY. I replace these yearly because the workouts I do are high intensity interval tarining (at least prior to pregnancy) and it wears the shoes down quickly. I then have another casual pair of sneakers (usually the old workout pair) that I wear to run errands, play in the yard with family, etc. That could be something to consider.

I love *LOVE* my New Balance tennis shoes (they're *specifically* tennis shoes, not cross trainers). I would imagine they do pretty well in their other "sneaker" categories, too.

I like to by New Balance for the kids and myself. They are so durable, esp the soles. It's about the only sneakers I can buy for the kids that won't wear out in a month. They are made in the USA and use recycled tire rubber for the soles.

I call them "running shoes." That's the Army in me, I suppose.

There are running shoes, cross trainers, court shoes, walking shoes...so figure out what you're needing them for and go that direction. I'd say a pair of cross trainers might be what you're looking for.

I own a pair of Asics. I really like them because I have a high arch, narrow heel, and broad forefoot. They are light and comfy. Cost me about $100 or so. I use them for basic PT. But when I'm running, I love my Vibram Fivefingers. They're a minimalist running shoe. If you don't like "tight," they're not for you. They're about as close to running barefoot as you can get.

Best!

Someone’s favorite shoe is not always the best shoe for you. Some of us have higher arches. Some of us have flat feet or pronate. Point is you need to get your foot sized correctly. Once you know more about your feet (know one foot can be different from the other in its needs) then find the shoe. I’ve been a marathon runner for years and tried one of the fancier ones recently. Honestly for me the older heavier shoes are better for me. I feel I have more support. I never had pain with the shoes or feeling I was rubbing too h*** o* the shoe. My new fancy shoe feels like a slipper on, but little support. Know you can find shoes about anywhere. I have never spent more than $85 for a shoe and many times I’ve spent less due to sales or outlets. For me, I’m going back to my Reedboks/Adidas since I know the shoe that works best for me. Take time now and you’ll have your shoe type for a while.

It really depends upon what you are doing when you are wearing the shoes. It is easy to spend $130 on a good pair of running shoes. Like... ohhh.. pick a pair. But if you aren't running in them, then don't spend $ on "running shoes".

So, what are you wearing them to do? walking the dog and shopping? Then get walking shoes, not cross trainers. I am not familiar with Roger Mack Boot Camp, so I don't know what that is---is it calisthenics? Aerobic? cross-training?

Maybe you should get a pair of shoes specifically for the Boot Camp/class, and a 2nd pair of walking shoes. Walking shoes are designed differently... because your foot's motion is different when walking than when you need stability to lift weights or do lunges or whatever.

Aasics are usually good shoes.
For running shoes, the good quality brands I would look for would be Mizuno, Brooks, Saucony or maybe New Balance. My husband only wears New Balance shoes. For running and for daily wear. The ONLY shoe brand that is made exclusively in the USA. :)
I run in Mizuno or Brooks, but have run in Aasics. New Balance tends to have a bit higher arch than the others, seems to me. I have a very neutral foot, so they are not comfortable for me, but might be perfect for you.

New Balance ~ only shoes my husband and oldest son will wear b/c they have wide feet and NB has a wide variety of wides to choose from. I decided to try some and LOVE them. I don't have wide feet and buy their standard shoe. They do run a little small lengthwise so go up a half size.

If you have a running store or specialty shoe store I would go there. They can watch and analyze your gait and help find the best shoe for you. I can wear some brands, but not others and they are brands other pwople swear by, to each their own. Your price seems good to for a pair of good shoes that get a lot of wear and tear.

I don't know this boot camp either but if it is similar to others, then lots of varied movements. Most likely cross trainers would be better. I like my Skechers, previously had Avia. Nike, Fila and Adidas are very uncomfortable for me. I loved Ryka when I was able to get them. If you are running, I have been told and read that Saucony is the best.

I have a running shoe and it is New Balance 442.

It fits like a glove and I LOVE it. I LOVE it so much, I went back and bought a 2nd pair just in case they got discontinued.

I forget exactly what I paid but I recall it was not quite $100 per pair.

Have fun at Boot Camp... My feet and bones are too bad for that. I'm limping around now, :( TOO many days of wearing spike heels when I was younger!
