Should I Deliver at South Shore or Boston

I have recently found out that I am pregnant with #2 and find myself constantly debating whether I should have this baby at South Shore Hospital or at BI in Boston. I delivered my first baby at BI and loved my OB, as well as the hospital staff during and after the birth. I now live about 55 min from BI and 25 min from South Shore but am not familiar with the level of care at South Shore. I've asked numerous moms in the area about where they've had their babies, and it's about 50/50. I think I would feel more comfortable going to BI, but the distance is what's holding me back (will I make it to the hospital in time???). I feel like I'm obsessing over this and would just like to make a final decision. Any advice, ladies? Thank you so much.

I had my first child at Brigham & Women. When baby # 2 came along, I wanted to go back to the hospital that I was familiar with but I could not find an OB Dr in our network that had an office in the South Shore and did not want to make those trips to Boston for another 8 months. So I decided to go with SS. Best decision ever. For me, very easy to get to, no parking issues (and free) right there at the hospital. I had a great experience at B&W but SS was way better. The rooms are bigger, (at least the ones that I saw) the nurses and the Drs are fantastic. Everyone that I met was just great. The staff at SS is just awesome. From the Volunteers to the lactation specialists to the nursing assistants.
And Yes the food is just so yummy.
Good Luck with the baby!

I have a 5 month old and delivered him at S. Shore. I was very pleased with my experience there. The nurses were amazing. I was supposed to go to BI but had to change docsmid-way through my pregnanacy. I would highly recommend SS. (also the bluberry muffins in the cafeteria):)good luck!

South Shore Hospital is great! I have had both my boys there (my youngest turns 1 tomorrow!!) My first ended up being an emergency C-Section, and even though he was not a premature had to be in the NICU for a few days. The level of care we received from the NICU was amazing. Both the doctors and nurses were very knowledgeable, caring and compassionate. It was great that they were able to meet the babies needs and ours without him being transferred to Boston. My second was a planned c-section, no complications and again we were treated very well!! Good luck with your baby and if you have more questions about SSH please let me know.

PS> the food is really good too!!

I delivered both of my children at South Shore and I loved it. My first was delivered while they were still building the new wing and I did not have any problems. The staff was wonderful. I had terrific experiences both times.

I delivered my twins and my 3rd, single baby all via c-section at South Shore. My OBGYN is Crown Colony, in Quincy and they are phenomenal! I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED South Shore. The nurses are fantastic, especially the evening staff. The lactation nurses were also awesome, very patient and encouraging. They took great care of all of us. I can't say enough good things about South Shore. Good Luck!

Hi J.,
I delivered at South Shore in May of 2006 and will again this May. I had a wonderful experience there, even with an emergency c-section. The nurses and staff were all great. I felt very well taken care of. The maternity ward was remodeled in the past couple of years and everything is very clean. It was also so convenient for vistors to come in and out, as parking is no issue! Hope this helps a little.

You should go where you feel most comfortable. I live in Japan, I was having a fourth c-section. I made the decision to go back to the US and have the baby at Brigham and Women's with a doctor I liked and felt comfortable with. If you are uncomfortable at the hospital, it will make the birth less pleasant for you. It took me over an hour to get to Brigham and Women's from my parent's and I made it with lots of time to spare. Most likely you will not have a ten minute labor, so you would probably have time to get to the hospital in Boston, otherwise, South Shore is on the way and you can stop there for the delivery.

Hi J.,

I delivered at South Shore and used South Shore Midwifery (on 53 by Brueggers Bagels and in Weymouth across from the hospital). I LOVED both the midwives and the hospital. South Shore gave phenomenal care. i was induced at 41 weeks and I was in the birthing unit for over two days before I finally delivered. Every nurse was attentive, nice, and very accomodating. I would highly recommend South Shore.
