Hi Moms,
What containers do you use to send lunch drinks to school for your kids? I have 2 in preschool and hate to send sippy cups (they seem babyish) or bottles of water (it seems wasteful to throw them away). I'm looking at Foogo straw cups, but they are pricey. What do you use?

My sons both take Capri Sun to school. You could try those tiny 8 oz. water bottles or buy a thermos to send with whatever you want to drink. We also have a couple non spill sippy cups with the straws that fold in and pop out. Those might work too.
I work in a preschool/MDO program and all of our 2 yr olds come to school with either a sippy cuy or lately I've noticed a lot of Capri Sun. Sippy cups are really convienant especially if you think your child will have a tough time with a juice box. We also have a little boy who brings in a water bottle.
I use the reusable water bottles.
In the plastic wares area in Wal-Mart I found a 4 oz squarish bottle with a screw-on cap/straw combination. I love it for my 3 year old grand daughter. The "straw" flips up and down to open for drinking and close for transport.
About me: Happily married 40+ yrs. Mother of three boys, now raising four grandchildren: 3 teens and 1 three year old.
I bought some playtex cups at Toys R us and they are more for big kids. Its an insulated sippy but the top has an opening like a travel coffee mug. I tried searching it online to give you a link, but couldnt find it. I have only found them in the little einsteins design. We also send Capri Suns and my 2-1/2 yo does good with them.
Both my kids drink organic milk so I just send the milk to preschool with them in my old Medela collection bottles and the teachers pour it in cups. Since both are still toddlers, it works great but, I'll have to find another solution once they start school.
I've started sending my kids' milk in the prepackaged boxed milks. They're great b/c they just throw them away when they are done and you don't have that sour milk smell in the lunchbox (been through that!). Another bonus is that they don't have to be refrigerated so you don't have to worry if they get warm. Oh yeah, and most brands I see are organic!! We get our's at Sam's or Costco, but you can get smaller packages at Walmart and Target. They come in Vanilla, chocolate and just plain ole organic milk (harder to come by).

Go get some of the straw sippy cups. They flip up, so they are a little more grown up without loosing the genius of a spill proof cup. I have purchased reusable water bottles that are also spill proof, so that might work. Or, also in the sippy cup isle is a playtex sipster. It looks like a sippy cup on the bottom, but the lid is different. Looks more like a big kid cup that way. Just a few suggestions. ~A.~
****Ahh, just kidding, it is not a playtex sipster, it is a playtex coolster! They are perfect, just look on the playtex website.
Just make sure you arent using plastic with BPA in it. Foogo's are good because they dont have BPA's. Camelbak's and Nalgene's are good too but as you said, they are expensive too and might also be too grown up. I think you are smart to go with Foogo's!
