Hi. I was just wondering if there are any suggestions to books about child development. Things I should be expecting, milestones, etc. and approximate age of these things. I have twin girls who just came home from the hospital and looking for some guidance.

Imagine my kids are 17 and 11 and I found a great deal of benefit in "WHAT TO EXPECT THE FIRST YEAR" A. Eisenberg et al. Workman Press.

What to Expect the First Year- we lived by it!
Congrats on your twins! I just wanted to write you to say that I also have twins (they are 2 now) and was a book fanatic. But please read with an open mind. I would get myself upset if they didn't hit milestones. Twins sometimes are delayed due to premature birth and the fact that they are twins. For example, speaking. Mine still don't speak many full words. Twins sometimes develop their own language between themselves - which mine did. The books are great for guidance, but not the law!!!!

My pediatrician recommended The Complete and Authoritative Guide Caring For Your Baby and Young Child Birth to Age 5 by the American Academy of Pediatrics. I've read it cover to cover.
"The Baby Book" by Dr. Sears. I use the entire "Sears library" of baby/toddler books.

Another vote for "The Baby Book" by Dr. Sears. It was my bible, and I ended up buying about 5 more of his books. In fact, when my dd turned 3, I panicked about not having a "guidebook" for that age! I love their website too: askdrsears.com
Congratulations!!! I lived by Your Baby's 1st Year Week by Week by Glade Curtis. It gave great information by your child's weekly development and not just the physical development. It also gave suggestions on appropriate games to play with your child according to their development at the time. It was immensely helpful and I now give one to each friend who is expecting.

My most favorite book that I still go to for my 11 yo son is 'Caring for your child from birth to 5 yrs' by The American Pediatric Society. When I found out we were having twins this was still my go to book, but I also liked 'The art of Parenting Twins' by Patricia Malstrom.

What to expect when expecting and what to expect the first year were lifesavers for me. Congrats. on your babies.
I have loved 'what to expect the first year'. It is concise I like the format and it has saved me many 10pm calls to the doctor. It is not just for development, but illnesses and issues and topics for all ages for the first year. They have a toddler book too.
They also continually remind parents that the milestones are just guidelines, not hard and fast rules of developments.
