Has anyone experienced a prolapsed uterus during pregnancy? I am 15 weeks pregnant and dealing with this. My uterus is pushing on my bladder and other things which is causing me not to be able to pee. Any help??

What can I do next?

Hi K.,

It would be great if you could get in to see a women's health physical therapist where you live. I specialize in just that in San Antonio and see a lot of prolapsed organs prenatal/postpartum through menopause. The therapist will do a detailed evaluation and set a plan specific for you. She may recommend a pessary, kegels, sacroiliac belt, lumbar stabilization exercises....either way she will follow you and make sure you don't end up with incontinence...

Feel free to contact me. Good luck, and congratulations.
I would love to work with you if you lived in SA or close to SA...don't know how close you are. I also teach Fit Mamas Prenatal Exercise here in SA.

Depending on the degree of prolapse, they can insert a cuff thingie to lift it up and hold the weight off of your bladder. Do LOTS of kegel excercises. Just make sure you doctor checks to see if you are doing them correctly. Or check on-line at a preggers site.

GOod luck.

I would recommend seeing a chiropractor who specializes in working with pregnant women. It could be a huge help for you. You can check out Dr. Cindy Haggerton at Lifetime Family Wellness Center. You also might want to find a massage therapist trained in pregnancy massage and see if they have techniques that can help as well.
Hope you get the help you need to have an enjoyable pregnancy!

Have your OB or primary refer you to a urologist ASAP. My mom had this condition when she was pregnant with my little sister (41 years ago). She ended up having to have a hysterectomy, but again, it was in 1967, so hopefully, you won't have to go through that.

Congrats on your pregnancy, but with this complication, be SURE that you follow your doctor's orders!

Hope everything else is going well for you!

I think this is the term for what I had, and it took care of itself when my uterus filled out a bit more, but it was wierd to have to pee and not be able to. I'd talk to a urologist about it or at least hound your OB for more information. Take care and Congratulations!!!
