I am 8 months pregnant and looking for ways to boost my immune system, mood, and energy. I am 36 yrs. old and married to a great and supportive man., This is my third child, I have a 3 and 5 yr old and work 4 days a week. I have had low iron levels for the past 4-6 weeks and have had low iron in past pregnancies. I have low energy, and feel tired and lethargic. I have a lot of issues with many environmental allergies and have been struggling with several flare-ups and colds this fall as well. So, I have resorted to taking a Claritin each day for the past few months. I am currently really sick with a sinus cold, feels like it may be turning into an infection. I have also been feeling very down, sad and no energy in my moods about 1-2 days a week since about 3-4 months pregnancy. I take a prenatal vitamin in the morning and an iron tablet, and Vitamin C tablet in the afternoon. Please help with any suggestions, I have been struggling a lot lately to keep up. THANK YOU!!

What can I do next?

being anemic will make you feel realy tired - your body isn't getting the oxygen to the cells that it's craving. Bulk up on natural sources of iron - read meats, nuts, green veggies. Drink a lot of water. Being hydrated keeps your cells feeling more vibrant. Get enough sleep. YOu have little ones and you're pregnant. That's a combination for not enough sleep. Take naps - or if you can't sleep just lie down when you get 15 minutes. Finally 0- for your sinuses try a neti pot. It's weird initially - but eventually it's a great thing to have your sinuses all cleaned out.

Good luck mama - God bless your family!

You are in the MOST MISERABLE YET BLESSED STATE a woman can be in. I have no advice, only that it will pass. That was me with my third, forth and fifth kid. Just totally beat. Check off each day on the calendar and celebrate when your little one gets here...just keep going as it's the only thing to do. (I think I was couch bound at that point quite a bit from fatigue. Just rest, rest, rest.) I let my kids play...and I rested. It was chaotic but it's what we had to do.

Try to have some yogurt every day.
You might like eating 1 tbsp of black strap molasses every day.
It's a great source of iron.
It hard when it's getting cold outside but try to spend a little time outside every day especially when you get a sunny day.
Sunshine is a mood booster.
I loved floating in a deep warm bath in the last month - it helped take some pressure off my back.
One more month to go!

Sweetie, no freaking wonder you are worn down...you are playing Superwoman! It must be almost impossible to rest when you have 3 and 5 year olds. You are also working almost full time. Start simplifying your life as much as possible. Put together very simple meals that can be put in the oven and baked rather than having you standing over a hot stove. Try to go to bed right after the kids go down for the night...you just need as much rest as you can possibly get.

You are probably going to the doctor weekly, so you might want to ask about any medical options you have for your symptoms....

Right on schedule for the pre-baby cold/sinus infections. Your mood, the whole thing...all pre-labor signs!!! You are almost there!!!!

I use blood builder when pregnant. It really helps with the iron.

Claritin has the ability to dry your mucus up so much that it can't drain right. Then it sits there with all the stuff it's supposed to rinse out and it festers, turning into a rip roaring sinus infection that isn't going anywhere due to taking an allergy med. Since it's stuck inside your head cavity it's effecting all your system. Get the drainage moving again.

If you are not so sick you can't function do not take any allergy meds for a while. Allow the sinuses to drain and get the pus and gunk out of your head. Claritin dries up mucus a LOT.

This is also what is most likely making you so tired and unable to function right. Do stuff to make your sinuses runny for a few days and see if you can get them draining again and get that stuff OUT....

If your doc/pharmacist says it's okay take some Sudafed. Not the fake one but the real one. It will draw fluids into the sinuses and make them drain better. Getting that congealed stuff out is the best thing you can do.

I feel your pain. My first three months I was so sick (nausea) that I had to sit in a recliner and couldn't do anything because moving made me throw up. That cleared up after three months, but then I was soooo tired that I still didn't want to do anything. I also got sick a lot (your immune system is down during pregnancy to avoid the antibodies attacking the pregnancy). Some people love being pregnant, but I was miserable.

The good news is, you're almost done! It's great your dh is supportive. Enjoy this time now while you can ask him to do more around the house. My dh did the grocery shopping, meals, everything!

My answer is tea. Peppermint is good for the immune system and for energy. Sweet Dreams from Bigelow has chamomile and mint, a good combination for fighting colds.

If you're a little more adventurous, I have another mix for you. Simmer in 2 cups of water 1 inch cutting of ginger and a clove of garlic diced and a half of a lemon. Simmer for 20 minutes. Strain out the solids. Add as much honey to the liquid as you need and as you like. Drink it down 2 to 3 times a day. This is good for the cold, as well as keeping colds away.

Hang in there, Mama! You can do it!

Ugh. I was anemic with my second. It's the pits. I could not do anything without having to sit down 10 mins into it. I could not shop. I can't believe you are still going at all!

Red meat. I had a hard time looking at raw meat. My H had to cook it till it was not read then I could finish it.

Call your OB. If you are anemic then the there is less oxygen in your blood. It's the red blood cells that are the trucks that take the oxygen to you and a growing baby. Low on trucks = low oxygen. It's a significant problem and warrants a call to your doc. even if you have talked about it before. A change for the worse, means call.
