Potty Chair - Clovis, CA

I bought the "throne of their own" for my son. It has a lazer light that goes underneath it and when they go it breaks the light sensor and it makes a big "dah to dah" musical noise and so he realizes that he did something. Totally reinforces the learning of it. He loved it. It was hard to find one that a boy won't mess all over... this one has that splash guard cup that goes in front, which is a lifesaver! I think it is made by fisher price. I think I got it at target or walmart.

We just finished potty-training our son (he is almost 29 months), and we didn't use a special potty seat at all. He sits on the toilet just like we do. It's much easier when we go places because he is used to the toilet. Also, think of it this way, if you train your son on a potty seat, then you will have to re-train him all over again on the toilet!

I'm sure you will get a lot of recommendations for potty seats, but please consider having your son use the regular toilet. It worked for my 2-year-old, and I know lots of other moms who have done the same.

I have 3 children, all boys. They are 6 years, 3 years, and 11 months, so I have gone through potty training 2 times now. My boys did not like potty chairs, they preferred to use the toilet just like Mommy and Daddy. I started them out sitting and as they got used to going by themselves, Daddy took over and taught them to stand up while peeing.

All children are different, but I would avoid buying the expensive toy like chairs. I feel they send the wrong message to children; do we really want to instill in them that potty time is play time? Definitely not! We have to clean up enough mess in the bathroom as it is with boys in the house! Imagine how messy it would be in there were they to start playing around while tending to their business. Yuck!

Good luck to both of you. This is a great stage of your child's life and one you'll never forget. Just think ... soon you'll be free of diaper changes! Yeah!

Hi P.! I just bought a potty chair at walmart (princess') and it works fine....but....since i was at the potty training thing for some time and it wasn't really working at the beginning as far as her wanting to use it i decided to buy a plastic gumball machine and fill it with m&m's...so every time my daughter would use her potty chair she would get 1 m&m and believe it or not she was potty trained in no time! It's a reward system that really works cause they get something out of it and it makes them use it every time....try it! It works...goodluck!

It is a 3-in-1: it comes as three pieces as a stand alone potty chair: the whole thing comes apart and you put the seat over the regular toilet seat and use the chair base as a stool. My daughter never used it as a stand alone potty chair, but uses it on the big potty. The seat portion of it fits over any shaped toilet, normal or elongated. Its also not expensive at ALL, and the seat is contoured so when being used on the regular toilet, they have a place to put hands and have a little back support.

I have the Babies R us Safety first one. It's very simple and inexpensive. I wouldn't recommend using the pee guard though. My son never needed it...ya he peed on the floor a couple times, but no biggie and I have been told that some boys have even scratched their little parts on it because it sticks up. The trick to getting my son to potty train was putting stickers on the potty seat. He refused to go until I bought him a Buzz Lightyear seat...which they don't have. So I just bought stickers and made my own. Let your son pick out the character he wants and then just decorate a cheaper plain toilet. He'll feel like he had a part in it and will probably be more excited about using it. I agree the ones that sit on the toilet are easier, my daughter used one, but my son was to scared to be up on the big toilet. As for the foldable travel ones. Spend a little more and get the better one. I bought the inexpensive one and it folded in when my son used it and made him more afraid of the toilet.Good luck!

I personally prefer the little inserts you use on the regular toilet. Then there is no dumping or cleaning. You will likely need a stool so he can get up onto the toilet but the padded seats with TV characters are really cute and comfy. We got ours at Target but they sell them everywhere. There is also a folded plastic thing you can use when you are traveling and if they are already used to going on the big toilet, that really helps since he won't have his potty chair with him everwhere. hey... we used teh winnie the pooh chair... they chair kinda has a wood look to it, bit its yellow. It turns into a great little step stool for when my daughter started using the big potty... that was almost 2 years ago and she still uses it to wash her hands.. I know they still sell it at walmart.
