Okay, I know this is silly but how many of you mommies knew from the begining (first ultrasound ect) that you were having twins? How many found out towards the end? I'm just wanting to know the possiblities. This is my third Preg. and I know the more you have usually the bigger you are. Well I have had too many comments asking if I was having twins.(feelings get hurt a little) I am 24 weeks, I did start this preg heavier (About 10Ibs) than my others also, But I even have feelings that my belly is huge. I can feel the baby moving super low and a split second later way up high to the right or left. Sometimes the baby is so low I think its about 2 or three inches from falling out~! Any who I know people who went there whole preg thinking there was only one, and either at birth or 5 days before they found out there was two, one was just super low and the other high. Oh and twins run in the family. I guess I am just tired of the comments, but I guess I do look like I am about 8months. Not to mention that for the last 3 1/2 wks I have been having heartburn constantly!!I get it from everything I eat just about! I had that with my others but not till I was about 8 or 9 months.

Oh and can you recommend and good books for a 4 year old (girl) to help explain how babies are born? Thanks!!

What can I do next?

With my last 2 i had a lot of people ask me if i was having twins, i was very big. Come to find out they were just very big babies. They were both over 22inches long and over 8lbs. So, you may just be having a very big baby.

I was in your situation with my second child.
EVERYONE commented on my size...it drove me crazy.
No matter what I wore or where I went, I heard things like, "ohmygoodness are you having triplets?" or "you look like you are about to blow up!" or "when are you due, last month?"
People can be very insensitive.
I began to feel like never leaving the house.
Instead, I did my best to respond humbly and let those who knew me how their words made me feel.

I asked the ultrasound techs (every time) to check for twins....but just one baby!

So, like you I still had baby weight from my 1st child and therefore I showed MUCH more quickly and carried heavier.
Not to mention, I am NOT very tall and short waisted, so my BELLY got HUGE.

My baby weighed nearly 10 pounds...she was large.

Every pregnancy and every woman carry differently.
It's not fair to compare one to the next.

Please don't let the comments get you down. Love your body, belly, and baby inside. Feel free to let people know that their comments are hurtful.
Be good to you.
You are a BEAUTIFUL pregnant woman!!!

I don't really know, with my cousins (multiple), my bff, and my brother's kids they knew at the first ultrasound, however, I am being sent for another ultrasound in a few weeks (i'm 22w3d) because I'm measuring large and we have that risk...I've already had 3 ultrasounds, but he wants a biophysical profile and to check for the possibility of multiples.

My twins were detected at 5 1/2 weeks with a vaginal ultrasound! Although even though I was carrying twins, I only gained 30lbs due to extreme morning sickness the first trimester and then my stomach was so squished by the babies that I always felt full & had to force myself to eat in the 3rd trimester. But I was still painfully huge by the end!! You measure about 6-8 weeks further along than you actually are when you carry twins!

I have a friend that her twins were not detected until the 6th or 7th month. Good luck...and I can def sympathize with the heartburn!!

I found out I was carrying twins at the first ultrasound. As far as "symptoms" go, I was extremely tired, quite hungry early on, and I swear they were kickboxing in my stomach when I could feel them move. Good luck. Talk to your ob if you are concerned, as twin pregnancies require extra folic acid and are considered higher risk.

A.,
I found out at 16 weeks. We had no idea until an ultrasound because every time I was in the doctor's office they would check for a heartbeat and when they found one they never tried to find another. It was my first pregnancy so I had no idea. Even though I was over 30 when I got pregnant and twins also ran in my family, I never thought to have them try to find a second heartbeat.
Have you had an ultrasound? I would think that would be the best way to be sure - or have them listen in more than one place when they check the baby's heartbeat. Hope this is some help. L. K

Hi! I had twins 4 years ago .... and I was huge ... I gained nearly 100 lbs which was 70% of my body weight and had gestational diabetes. At 4 months, I looked like I was full term.
My twins were detected in the 2nd month during an ultrasound. In my 6th month, my boys kicked me in exactly the same places you describe yours (one was lodged way down into my pelvic bone and whenever he hiccuped, my bones creeked!! and the other one was just below my stomach) ... and they didn't move much after the 4th month and were born premie at 34.5 weeks thru a c-sec.
I would suggest you get an ultrasound done and tell the technician to look for another heartbeat .. guide the technician to the part of your belly where you feel the baby kicks. If you are carrying twins, you need to know that and the doctors need to monitor you more closely.
Good Luck!

everyone always asked me if i was having twins because i was sooo big. i was showing at 8 weeks. so i was always scared that i would go into labor and end up with two babies. even though i only saw 1 baby on the ultrasound there is always a chance the other twin is hiding. so throughout my whole pregnancy i was scared thinking i was having 2. but every pregnancy is different and everyone carries babies differently. i too felt that baby moving very low and then high, so from then on i was very scared about having twins. but it is more likely your feel his head move low and his/her feet moving up high. if you havent had an ultrasound i would get one since they run in your family. more than likely there is only one since you are already 24 weeks the baby is all squshed up inside you so he/she has less room to move, so you will feel the baby moving low and high at the same time. but more than likely it is not twins. congrats on the pregnancy!

I found out "for sure " the day my boys were born. That was twenty years ago ultrasound is so much more advanced now you should be able to tell by 24 weeks Talk to your dr about your concerns. They may want to do more tests to ease your concerns I understand how you feel about the comments I was super huge!! I had a real hard time at the end My boys were BIG 7lbs6oz and 9 lbs 9ozs I KNOW!! they were the largest twins in the county at the time and the record still stands as far as I know You can handle it just talk to your dr Good luck L.
