My dd is 2 1/2 and in the last 6 months or so (since she turned 2) shes only gained about 2 lbs. Shes had a well check and the doctor said her height to weight ration is fine but it just seems to me she should be gaining more, especilaly since shes gotten so much taller. Maybe Im just used to how quickly she was gaining as a baby? She has a big appetite, so I cant imagine shes not getting enough to eat. How much did your kids gain between 2 and 3 yrs?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks! I feel a lot better that this seems to be the norm- just seems so weird that she keeps outgrowing all her clothes but hasnt gained much weight.

My daughter is 18 months old and only gained 2 lbs since her 12 month visit. The doctor said it is normal for children to stop gaining so rapidly after the first year. I was concerned too, but it seems normal.

Perfectly normal for her to be drastically slowing down.
If we all gained like we do the first year of life we'd all be ginormous. :)
My kids usually always get two seasons out of their clothes.
My son will be 2 in a month. He is wearing the same shorts he wore last summer...and they're still falling off his butt. But he has grown and he eats great. So no worries.
They tend to just stretch for a while. :)

I wouldn't worry about it! Kids all grow at different rates, and as long as they are proportionate, and gaining some weight, they should be fine!

My son, who gained 14 lbs between birth & his 6 month checkup, only gained 4 lbs between that 6 month & his 18 month check up! And since that checkup until now (about 27 months) he has gained about 2.5 lbs. But he is pretty proportionate, so our doc says he is fine.

I think it's normal for them to not gain that much , at that age.

My guy will be 3 in a few weeks and he has done the same thing, hardly gained more than 3 lbs this past year but has grown in height. Weight really slows down after the first year, and now that's she's moving more than she ever did during her first year she's burning off the food she eats. She has a big appetite and her doctor says she's fine and it truly sounds as if she is perfectly normal.

Maybe she will always be on the thinner side, which is great healthwise : )

My youngest was an 8 lb baby since then she took forever to gain weight. she was always in or below the 10th percentile for weight and height. The Dr told me that as long as they saw a steady climb up the growth curve she was fine. Plus she ate a lot especially healthy/ she will be 5 in May and just barley weighs 3 lbs now. At 3 she was 25lbs or so.
