In my day we always wore panty hose with dresses, etc. It seems now that people go without them and have bare legs. I don't want to do that. Is it still appropriate to wear panty hose or not? I usually wear slacks everywhere and need to wear a dress. I'm enbarrassed even asking. Thanks.

What can I do next?

I think you should wear what you like since you'll be drop-dead gorgeous whichever you choose!

I never see hose here, but I'm in Texas. It was 80 degrees today. When it is cold here, we wear tights or boots with skirts. I agree with others who say wear whatever you're comfortable in.

Of course you can wear pantyhose. Don't concern yourself with others' fashion statements. Your legs are your legs and you wear what you want.

They still sell them, so obviously someone is still wearing them. ;-)

I still wear them and I'm not all that old. 44. I kind of need them as my legs and feet get cold otherwise - nevermind they're not perfectly tan etc. I think it's fine. I so rarely see women in a situation where I'd have thought they were "required" years ago that it's hard to say but I really think you're fine wearing them. I've never had a friend make a comment or gotten funny looks. I believe I still see them on some women at business functions.

At the ballet recently many of the women were wearing wild colors and interesting designs on their pantyhose. Mind you, they were wearing some pretty cool outfits in general. So if your dress is classic, stick with nude or black. And leggings and tights look great under a dress with flats and booties. Also, classic black boots look stunning with dresses this time of year..

Happy dress wearing!

There's lots of bare legs here in the summer, including mine. But now, no way, if I'm wearing a dress, I'm wearing hose.

Anyone can wear hose, if they want. I don't think there is really an appropriate/inappropriate pertaining to hose.

I haven't seen anyone wear hose in many years, but I would never think "inappropriate" if I did!!!

i quit wearing them when i moved to florida - sooo not done there lol.

since moving back to good ole' kansas, i still don't if it's warm - but in the cool fall weather, i would, if i wore a skirt/dress. in cooler weather i prefer slacks just because i really don't like hose. but i don't think it's a "no-no". just my preference.

If it's a causal event I don't always wear pantyhose but for dress up affairs I do. I don't care what the 'style' is, I am more comfortable when I hear hose.
I don't like the feeling of my thighs sticking together.

Absolutely appropriate unless it is warm where you live but I do not think Kansas is warm now.

You can still wear hose, but you might want to stick to nude.

Every Sunday like clockwork I wear my hose, nude hose. Probably will till I die. Really don't care what others want but I am just that way.

I think it's more the style to go without hose with more casual dresses, where in the past every dress was worn with hose! I even remember wearing hose and flats with skirts to school!

I think you can wear whatever you feel comfortable with. Hose are meant to cover up imperfections in your legs and smooth out the knees. Nowadays I think they look best with fancy dresses.

I think you will be awesome with or without them!

They're still appropriate for dressy events and formal business environments.

I like panty hose with dresses. I do not like my bare legs. I do however like tights that everyone wears. With a dressy dress I would wear panty hose. Casual summer dresses bare legs. Tights the same color as my shoes.

You never know till u ask. Where r u wearing the dress to, work or fun?
I would say wear nude & u can't go wrong. If its formal, u can do both, bare or none. Looks like u have some answers. See what majority says.

I buy thigh hi stocking instead of pantyhose. You don't have to worry about putting a run in your stocking when you out.

I think it entirely depends on the situation. If you are going to court and will be testifying or appearing then the better you are dressed the more respect you will get.

If you are going to a wedding/church event then it depends on the weather. If it's hot then you need to go barelegged or you'll be melting. If the weather is like it is now you can get away with bare legs or hose either way. If it's really cold then by all means go to Walmart and get some tights that have designs in them, thicker hose, or just some nylons. Something that coordinates and looks nice.
