Hi Everyone,
My husband has accepted a job in Ritchfield, Ohio. We are moving from Lake Forest, Illinois to Ohio. We are looking to live between Chagrin Falls, Solon, down to Hudson.(We'll be in temp housing until we find a home). I am currently 22 weeks with my second pregnancy (I have a 20 month old son) and am a little anxious about finding a good and compassionate OB and opinions on the hospitals to deliver at. (I've heard about Rainbow Babies and Hillcrest to be really good, but that was only two people). I had a c-section with my son and will need another. Any insight will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Wanted to give an update to our research and decision on finding an OB and hospital in the suburbs of Cleveland. Thanks so much to everyone who posted recommendations..that was a huge help and really helped me narrow down my search! We are right now in temp housing, but are looking to buy a home in Hudson (most likely) and decided that the OB/GYN of the Reserve worked best for us. Plus all the positive reviews were hard to beat! I have an appointment next week and the receptionist was very sweet and helpful. What a relief for me. Now I have to take some tours of Akron General and Akron City and decide which one is the best hospital too. Thank you everyone!

Hi, and welcome to the area! I have to second the recommendation made by Christina T. The doctors and staff at The Reserve are all excellent ###-###-####. And they have an office in Hudson. I had all 4 boys with them and all 4 were c-section. The docs are caring, compassionate and they actually listen and answer questions! The staff is very friendly and discreet. I had some issues with my pregnancies, like gestational diabetes, pregnancy induced hypertension, and low amniotic fluid. I never felt like they didn't know what they were doing. I dealt with every single doctor at the practice and they are all wonderful. I delivered 2 at Akron City (good hospital) and 2 at Akron General (liked it a little better than City but both provided excellent care!. Hope this helps!

Hi Maira,

Welcome to the community! I echo the thoughts on the OB/GYN of the Reserve. I use the Bath offices and it is great. Dr. Pederson (female), Dr. Polifone (male) and Dr. Marchetta (male) are all great. I've met Dr. Burton (female) and thought she was a little cold but it could just be me. Dr. Polifone has a very dry charater but he delivered my second and was great! Richfield schools are rated excellent!! I delivered my two by c-section at Akron General. The nurses are wonderful there!

Good luck!

Hi Maria,
I was in your almost exact situation. Moved from D.C. when I was 6 months pregnant. ABSOLUTELY agree with Belynda. Geauga Women's is staffed with several female (at this time) OB/GYN's who all have their distinct personalities and are all great. The nursing and reception staff are an absolute riot as well. I also second Geauga Hospital. I panicked when I first went in there because I thought it was way too far out in the country (my 1st was born in a big city hospital) but, after doing my research on the hospital (they recently finished a very nicely renovated maternity ward), I put my fears to rest.
Simply put, my stay on the maternity ward was EXCELLENT! I even had a nurse stay after duty to help me work on my twice failed attempts at knitting. They were so kind and really took the time to get to know me as a person before they started to advise me as a mother. In other words, they could see that I had done this once before and needed more of a "refresher" than what a brand new mom would need.
I also asked several doctors/neighbors around Chagrin Falls and they spoke highly of the OB's and the hospital. As an added bonus, there is a great pediatrician's office right across from the OB's. One stop shopping! Good luck.

Hi, Maira:
I can recommend my OB -- Dr. Steven Galun. He has an office in Solon and an office in Garfield Hts. He delivers at Hillcrest in Mayfield and Marymount Hospital in Garfield Hts. He is wonderful! - warm, professional, and well respected. He has two other OBs in his practice (both women), Dr. Hruby and Dr. Slotta. Dr. Galun delivered my daughter (3 yrs) at Marymount and Dr. Slotta delivered my son (18 mos). Both deliveries were natural and both doctors were great in helping me achieve that. I would eagerly recommend either one. As for hospitals I have only been to Marymount and I loved it. It is a small, Catholic, suburban hospital and the postpartum nurses were great. Dr. Galun also delivers at Hillcrest. I have never been but I hear it is nice there. His office number in Solon is ###-###-####. Good luck with the move and congratulations on the new little one!

Hi Maira,
I just wanted to tell you that my family relocated from Naperville, IL to Cleveland area last year. I have a sister in law in Lake Villa, IL too. This August will be one year here. It was a big adjustment, but really has grown on us & love it. We also looked in Solon, Hudson, Aurora. We ended up getting a house in Aurora since my hubby is working in Twinsburg. Schools are excellent in Aurora, Solon, Hudson. There are actually two other families relocating from Chicago burbs to our neighborhood. Best of luck with the move.

Hi Maira!!

I got some great recommendations from this group when I was looking for an OB. We moved to the area from MI almost a year ago and we are currently expecting #3. We are living in Brecksville and we really love it. We did look in Hudson as well, but for us, we are in a great location, great city amenities and great schools. Also, it is very easy to get from place to place with our location. It is just north of Richfield so a commute would be in the opposite direction of most people going into the city.

I ended up choosing Dr. Knotek with South Suburban Women's Center. She has office hours in Twinsburg, OH And Garfield Hts. The Twinsburg office # is ###-###-####. What I like about her is that she is very down to earth and she will mostly likely be the one delivering me. Not whomever is on call at that time. She said that she has missed maybe 3 deliveries in all of her time practicing. She can deliver at Maramount or Hillcrest. We are going with Hillcrest because they have a level 2 NICU. We do not expect to need it, but it is reassuring to know that it is there.

I wish you and your family the best of luck with your relocation. If you have any additional questions about the area or about Dr. Knotek, please let me know.

Good Luck
K.

Hi Maira. I was also new to the area when I was pregnant with my 2nd baby and I found the doctors at Geauga Womens Specialites to be really great. You can contact them on ###-###-#### (8185 E Washington St # 8, Chagrin Falls) and they work at Geauga Hospital which is FABULOUS!! Not sure what your first experiance was like but I gave birth to my son in Malaysia and the standards here are very different so for me, it was like staying at the best hotel in town!! Give them a call and meet one of the docs and see what you think. Good luck and please contact me if you need any other info for docs or area questions. I am in Chagrin Falls :)
