I am part of a fabulous webbased playgroup that is extremely active! You should check it out www. Vegasmommies.com

Check out http://vegasparent.com/. Click on their Events calendar to find out all sorts of different activities going on around the valley.

MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) http://www.mops.org/. Your kids don't have to be preschool age to attend, though. You can find a location nearest you.

Moms Club - http://www.momsclub.org/. my sis-in-law is in a group in NW Las Vegas and loves it.

Mommy & Me classes. They're all over - gymnastics, yoga, sign language, music, etc.

There are also online groups who meet up, like meetup.com (find groups with common interests as you) or some Yahoo groups get together.

You could also look up an LDS ward (church group organized by area) at http://lds.org, click on 'about the church' then 'find a meetinghouse'. They usually have a lot of moms, often with young children, and many times they have playgroups during the week, in addition to class and playtime during church.

Also, library story time is a good way to get out and be around other parents and find other resources (you can take babies to some events, but that might be better when he gets a little older). http://lvccld.org/.

Good luck in your search. It can seem overwhelming as a new mom, but pretty soon you'll find your groups and niches, and will be able to give advice to other new moms.
Right now, while your ds is so young, it might be nice to find at least one or two groups who are more focused on the mom/social standpoint than kids' activities. Because soon enough he will have preferences and want to interact with certain kids and activities. You still have the advantage of doing what YOU want and he'll happily go along for the ride. And if there are other cute babies he can stare at and crawl after, all the better.

Definitely check out the Barbara Greenspun Women's Center (St. Rose Hospitals). https://www.strosehospitals.org/Classes_And_Events/index.htm
They hold a weekly Mommy Mixer for Mamas of up to 1 yr olds. The class offers breastfeeding help, answers all sorts of general questions and all the mamas share their experiences with each other. It's a wonderful place to go to get out of the house with your little one and get some much needed support and socialization for both of you! It's where I met my playgroup of 7 wonderful mamas and their babies. :)
There are 2 locations; one on the sw side (near Buffalo and the 215) and one on the se side (Green Valley and the 215).
