Never Found a Dr. (PCP)

My husband and I would like to stop using CareNow for all our medical needs.

I hate "doctors" who have the freudian idea that they are the professionals and I know nothing about myself...if you can relate:

Please recommend a primary care physician--general doctor.

Someone who listens, offers holistic advice without being all new-age weird, and trusts your instincts about yourself. Someone who has time to see you without a six month wait, keeps your appt without a half hour wait, and can preferably do any testing on site, although I'm sure that's a perk that's rare.

Someone who is not on the payroll of a phamaseutical company!

Thank you!

~A.

P.S. Also, WHY do you recommend them, briefly.

P.P.S. I live in Plano, and pay a lot to have great insurance.

Dr. Cawley who used to be in with Dr. Culpepper at Bent Tree Family Practice--the Dallas location is now at Plano Presby and he is very caring and will spend as much time with you as you need. He is a great listener and does also provide samples if he has them. If you prefer a woman, I recently have been seeing Heather Akins at North Texas Family Medicine (by Plano Medical Center on Coit) and she has been great so far. I had a very unusual problem and she spent some time researching it and was very patient. My waits for both doctors have been reasonable.

I second Dr. Chartrand in Allen at Harmony Family Health. It's near 75 and McDermott in a beautiful old house. He is everything you described. He will take his time with you and listen to you. He takes a more natural approach instead of just medicating everything. You will love him.

I don't know what area of town you are in, but my husband and I both have been seeing Dr. Hania Alaidroos for about 5 years and absolutely love her. She is in North Dallas around Preston &Frankford. She is at the Arbor Green Clinic. She is so genuine and caring and patient. She is one of the few doctors I have been to that truly seems to care about the well-being of our entire family. My husband can be kind of difficult with doctors - doesn't like or trust most of them - but loves her! We can always get into see her same day, rarely have to wait long. Her staff is great too. Her practice has grown since we started seeing her, so she does have a partner now and every now and then takes a day off, so one time I did see her partner, who was wonderful too. Dr. Alaidroos is so personable - she treats you like a real person and gives you her full attention - you are not just the next patient in line. I can't say enough great things about her. Her website is http://www.arborgreenclinic.com . Phone number is ###-###-####. I hope this works out for you if she is in your area! Good luck to you!

Jennifer Zimmer is with Dallas Diagnostic Associates Plano at Baylor Medical Center on Alliance Blvd. Her speciality is internal medicine, but she also provides well-woman care. I don't think she is into holistic medicine per se, but does spend time with her patients and seems to thoughtfully consider before making a diagnosis.

She refers her patients to the imaging area on the floor below her for mammograms and bone density scans and to the lab on the same floor for bloodwork, so you can get everything done in one visit. Her # is ###-###-####.

There are also male doctors in the group at Plano if your husbands prefers a man.

The downside is the phone system which is automated to a point; however, you can email her or the appointment desk from the Dallas Diagnostic website: http://www.ddadoctors.com/

I LOVE this doctor -- he helped to diagnose me w/a extremely rare bone marrow disorder when I had known something was wrong with me, but suffered for FOUR years going from DR to DR and them saving -- NOTHING WAS WRONG..... I literally owe my life to this man...

His clinic has CT, Digital XRAY, ultrasound, and can run simple blood tests (CBC, etc) but he does send out for thyroid, cholesterol, etc. His clinic is open M - Sat, something like 9am to 10pm.... He isn't always there of course, he has a PA - she is fine also for sickness type visits. I always make sure when I make an appt for something serious or my yearly physical that I get an appt w/him. Its fine to see the PA for sinus infection, strep - things like that.
I do have to warn you about his staff -- they really aren't that great at getting message to him, the are VERY NICE just don't always get the messages to him in a timely manner. I just continue to call until I get what I want!!!
This man is so caring and generally concerned about the health of my family. He treats me, my husband, my 3 kids, my mother and my mother in law.
Please feel free to email me if you have any QUESTIONS at all. Everyone I have recommended him to TOTALLY loves him...

GOOD LUCK,
D.

I recommend Dr. Sandknop's office. He is a good FP and is well respected in the Rockwall community. He is well read and has been a physician for quite some time. Additionally, his office really cares about the patients that they see. I like all of the physicians in the clinic. I would trust their clinical advice in a heart beat. They make decisions based on their medical experience; and clinical data. Additionally, they are very up-to-date on recommended standard of care for patients. Which is something that I look for in a physician.

Also, I usually get in immediately with an appointment. I have called in that morning and was able to be seen by someone that afternoon. Plus was seen at my appointment time - very little, to no wait. I have also heard that Dr. Sandknop is open to patients that would like to take more of a holistic approach. However, I have not experienced this first-hand.

Good luck!

A., Guy Culpepper is wonderful. He has an office in North Dallas, near Beltline and the Tollroad and an office in Frisco. He will take time with you and listen to your concerns. As for waiting, I think everyone has to wait now but generally it's not for more than 15 minutes, unless he is really slammed during cold/flu season. He literally saved my husbands life by detecting a fluctation in his EKG two years ago. We love him. Tell him D. J. referred you.

Dr. Paul Hull in Plano. He saved my life after the birth of my twins -- after I'd already been seen by obgyn and walk-in clinic doctors. He's been my family doctor for over 20 years. He listens! He is not associated with a drug company OR an insurance/PPO/HMO --although he'll give you the necessary help to file your insurance claim. He determined over 10 years ago that he became a doctor to help people -- not to beg an insurance company to approve necessary treatments or staff up his practice in order to meet all their paperwork requirements.
