Need Help Finding a Good Crib

Hello. I'm trying to find a good quality convertible (either 3-in-1 or 4-in-1) crib that cost less than $300.00. Any ideas? My husband likes the Simplicity Ellis at Target for $249 but I'm not too sure about Simplicity since they had so many recalls this year.

What can I do next?

Hi K.

There is a great used baby store in Mansfield center. You can find a good deal on a crib. Since they are used you can probably find a really nice quality one(the owner only takes nice stuff) for cheap.

Hi K.,
I had a budget when I was looking for a crib last year...we found a GREAT outlet in New Bedford called Baby Boudoir Outlet http://www.babyboudoiroutlet.com/ where I purchased a beautiful Creations Crib that converts to not only a toddler bed but also a full size bed. The selection there is wonderful, the salespeople know their stuff and they will help you choose the best crib for your budget! Hope it helps!
Good Luck!

Hello K.. I am K. Farrar and an at home working Mom, founder of my own company and mother of two wonderful daughters, Abigail 9 and Audrey 6. I actually have a convertable crib with matching changing table posted on CraigsList as we speak. It is also apart of my neighborhood yard sale this Saturday. It is a Legacy by Childcraft convertable crib with matching changing table. Complete with crib mattress and Classic Pooh bedding, if desired. All is in excellent condition. We purchased it in 1999 when we were expecting Abigail. We are asking for $400 for the complete set or BO. I live in Brentwood, Hampshire, just west of downtown Exeter. If you are interested, my email address is ____@____.com or you can call at ###-###-####. Thank you, K. F.

I'm really not huge fan of the convertible cribs. I've none several ppl that had them and only used them as a crib because they wanted the cute little toddler beds plus they are pretty pricey. I say go go purchase the plain standard crib or maybe you might want to consider moving your little one into a toddler bed and using that crib for your new baby.

Hi there - we bought the Legacy crib (convertible 4-1), altho the finish we purchased isn't listed anymore (it's a black/antique). http://www.childcraftindustries.com/cgi-bin/jh_item.pl?Si... We also purchased the bed rails too, as it would be hard to find them later. We got it at Norm's Discount Baby Furniture in Fitchburg which is AWESOME, but were going to close this fall (retirement). You may be able to get a floor model or whatever is in stock at a discount. Good luck!

I have an Ikea one that I like. It's pretty simple, but will make into a toddler bed. I have only needed it for 10mos though so I can't atest to long-term quality or how well it works for toddlers.

We got our daughter a crib at IKEA for a little over $100 and have been very happy with it. We haven't done it yet, but it can convert to a toddler bed as well.

Hope this helps,
S.

Hi there, after much research- we purchased the Lifestyle Babi Italia crib. It is pricy- but you can sometimes purchase the floor model crib at Babies R Us or Baby Depot/Burlington Coat Factory- we found other furniture this way for much reduced cost. I honestly don't know if that 3 in 1 is worth it afterall- may just be easier to get a toddler bed when it is time- I'll be interested to see other responses. What I liked best about this crib is how big and solid it is, with no moving parts- i.e. hinges that could trap fingers, but you definitely want something that drops down in height as the baby gets bigger and more skilled at climbing. There are very few brands made with non toxic finishes- I think only 2 or 3 brands- but you can also buy a bite guard to cover the railings. I also really considered the Ikea brand- it is a sturdy, safe design and more economical.

We got a nice one at Walmart (used the Site-to-Store shipping, so that was free) -- it's actually not available anymore
(there seems to be one almost identical called the Storkcraft Quinn on other websites), but they have lots of convertible cribs on the website that you can get shipped to your closest store. I also found that the item I bought had some mixed reviews, but we've been very happy with it. I would suggest looking online and reading reviews -- I bought both our cribs (for my kids 13.5 months apart) that way.
