My Toddler Has Sweaty feet....Are Crocs Worth the Money?

There are also some great, locally made shoes called Cloggens. They are from Lake Oswego. They are similar to Crocs, and the good materials, but cuter and less dangerous. I don't know which stores carry them, but you can google them and see all the styles and where to get them. I like Crocs, but I LOVE Cloggens.

Crocs have a "no smell" guarantee on them. So they won't make his feet stink for one thing. I see a podiatrist and he actually recommended them. So not only are they "non" sweaty or "non" smelly, but they are also ergonomically correct for his feet unlike most sandals. They also will last quite a long time. The cheaper ones aren't made with the same material or the same "support" I guess you could say, so they aren't made as well. I say yes they are absolutely worth the money and will keep his feet cool and fresh and they are actually good for his feet!

Seriously, buy the Crocs!!! I have 2 boys (4 and 2), and those seem to be the only shoes they want to wear. I bought my boys crocs online at www.crocs.com for $29.00 each. That does seem expensive, but we have definitely gotten our moneys worth. They are easy to wash (in the sink with soapy water), quick to dry, stay on their feet through most situations, never smell, easy to put on, super-cute, and really comfortable. We love that you can buy Jibbitz to decorate them as well. I bought our crocs about a year ago, and am just now concidering buying some more for the boys.
My youngest son always gets stinky feet when he wears socks with shoes, but I've never noticed his feet stinking from wearing his crocs.

Honestly, is $40 too much to prevent peeling feet?! That seems like it would be really painful & anything you could do to prevent that would be worth double what Crocs cost! I'd imagine you would save money in the long run without having to buy creams, powders, dr's visits, etc.

As for the reason the Dr. recommend Crocs vs. the imitation ones, is because I believe Crocs have an antimicrobial ingredient in them. I know a lot of the Lands End shoes have the antimicrobial agent as well & I swear by their shoes. I just saw some sandals on their site that have the antimicrobial agent in them for $19.

I've never worn Crocs, nor has my daughter; I think they are ugly. But if my pediatrician told me to get them to help her feet, I'd do it asap. Growing feet need good shoes & I spend more on them than other stuff.

I would recommend the Trellos from www.landsend.com. They are similar to the Crocs, but the bottoms have a much different tread than the crocs, PLUS they have a different texture, and they are sooo comfortable. They have an anti-microbial property, which might help with your situation.

I love my trellos, and I get compliments all the time about them. I do believe they are $25, and if you order at the Sears store in the Lands End kiosk, you get them shipped to your home for free! How awesome is that?

We have "normal" Crocs for our kids. Second sandal season we've used them. They never fall off, are easy for kids to take on and put back on alone and we love them. Only $20.

I know you have a lot of responses but, I should tell you what I think in case it helps. First of all I love Crocs. I have several pair and give them as gifts. Adult Crocs can be purchased all the way from $25.95 to $40 but, I'm sure kids are less. Check around prices are different in some stores for the same produce (make sure they're Crocs) I have found that yes, your feet can still sweat a little so my suggestion is to make sure they fit him correctly, not too big, and that you buy some white all cotton socks for whatever shoes he wears. Crocs have many little bumps on the surface of the bottom of the shoe and I can't believe that wouldn't be bothersome for a child whos feet peel. Something to consider anyway. Good luck.

Hello, well last summer I did buy those crocs for my little guy who is now three. I thought that they made is feet sweaty and he actually got sores on his feet. They didn't allow his feet to breathe. I put them away and purchased salt water sandals for him. I think I paid something around $20-25. They were awsome. You can get them either at Nordstrom or Fred Meyer. I was actually at Fred Meyer a few weeks ago and they had a lot. I'm very picky about buying shoes for my children. So I wish you luck.....

My sweet husband has the same issue.... really sweaty feet (and hands) and has a really hard time being comfortable in any shoes. He bought Crocs while we were in Maui on our honeymoon and after a lengthy discussion with the owner of the store about all the benefits of Crocs, he bought them and wore them the entire 2 weeks we were there! He would wear them to work if he could! Good luck.

My son, 3 1/2, has terribly sweaty feet as well. We don't have as severe a peeling problem and it sounds like you are dealing with but talk about a funky smell. Whew! We recently bought him a pair of crocs, which he absolutely LOVES!! And they are great. His feet don't sweat nearly as much, don't smell nearly much. He is a rough and tumble little boy and the shoes are holding up wonderfully.

Another tip, sweaty feet run in my family and I have tried the deodorants. The best that I have found is Secret Gel. The sprays just don't work as well and the sticks leave an icky residue but the Secret Gel is cooling on the feet and doesn't leave a mess in your shoes. My son saw me putting in on my feet one day and wanted to try it too. He loves putting it on now and it is wonderful. No more stinky socks when he wears his tennis shoes. I don't know why I didn't think of trying it on him sooner.

I too had a toddler (several years ago) who seems to have had the same problem with sweaty feet. Salt Water Sandals did the trick. They are water sandals, made of leather, and are made in adult sizes as well. They are fantastic. We buy ours at Nordstroms, although other stores carry them I think. They are more spendy than a typical sandal, but well worth it. They come in all kinds of colors as well. Good luck! V.

One of my twins and my daughter both have the horrible foot issue, and they have to wear only 100% leather shoes due to the foot sweating, peeling, and sores. I bought them both crocs last summer off shoebuy.com, which offers free shipping and free returns. They work WONDERFULLY no issues at all with their feet, and they wear them both with and without socks.

I know this sounds weird but it does work, but try soaking his feet in tea...The tea has a natural acidity that will help dry out his feet...It has worked for this adult, I tried it after seeing it on a T.V. program. figured it couldn't hurt and it is a natural remedy...

I don't know if they will help decrease the sweaty feet, but Crocs are all my 3 year old wears. He's been wearing them for over a year (we're on his third pair). He loves them, we love them, and the Crocs for kids are only $25-$27. I haven't seen the Otter, but they sound interesting.

Both fred Meyer and walmart sell a crocs knock off that I haven't noticed a big difference in quality. The knock offs are 5-15 dollars depending where you get them and you could also try looking on craigslist or ebay for a nice used pair for a fraction of the cost. My feet peel in the spring and summer too and I would say that if the crocs or croc like shoes are going to prevent it then it would be worth the money.

Yes! They are fabulous! Mine has sweaty feet too..and they are all she wears in the summer. They are comfy, they don't give blisters, and they cover her feet well. She can go in the water with them, or climb on rocks with them. I am a fan of the crocs!

My three year old wears crocs and I like them because I can just wash them off when they get dirty. They are also easy for him to put on and take off by himself. As far as the cost goes, I paid $25 for new ones. However, I saw them at a discount store for about $15 (Spokane Discount). You may also be able to get them for less online (ebay?). I have very sweaty feet and the absolute best thing I have found for them is to simply go barefoot. It's very important for children under the age of 6 to go barefoot as much as possible so their feet develop properly as well. Please check out the Parents for Barefoot Children website for scientific studies that support going barefoot. Both of my girls go barefoot most of the time and my husband and I do also. Going barefoot has pretty much cured my husband's flat feet as well as keeping my feet from sweating :)

My grand-children love their crocs, they also get very sweaty feet but no peeling. Comes summer it is by far their favorite shoes, mine too actually.

I would just wonder if sandals are the best option. One of my kids had a condition called Plantar Dermatosis - it is really ugly - dry, shiny skin, large pieces that flake off, cracks and painful. We went to several doctors and did see a dermatologist. It is something that kids outgrow but sandals are the worst and they should never wear them as they cause too much friction on the foot which causes more flaking and irritation.

It's a pain but shoes and socks are actually the best thing to manage this.

My son is 2 1/2 and he loves his crocs. He has really sweaty, stinky feet too and these ones don't seem to smell at all like his old sandals did. I'm happy to have these shoes for him this summer. He loves putting them on himself and a bonus that they're waterproof. My mom bought them for him at a yardsale for $3.00. I've never seen them for $40, and would have a hard time paying that, but they are worth it.

I don't remember my daughter's crocs being $40! I wear them in summer (the mary jane ones) and they are so comfortable, never sweaty, dirty, and smelly like some sandals can get after all summer.

And the kids' crocs come in double sizes (6/7, 8/9) so get them big enough and they can last for a long, long time! They can be worn in the water, are super easy to clean and dry, I love them!

My daughter also loved the little gems, disney characters, flowers, etc(jibbitz) that are available for crocs. I regularly spend $30-40 for my kids' shoes because the materials, flexibility, and comfort are very important for a growing child!

You could try Cali Gear by Sketchers. They are not as spendy as Crocs, but made much the same way. Not sure what sizes are available, but you could try the websites to see.

I worked at Famous Footwear, and we had them there( http://search.famousfootwear.com/search.aspx?SH=A%3dcali+... ), or you could try Nordstrom's or Macy's.

Famous also has Airators by Sketchers http://search.famousfootwear.com/?Query=airators . They have an insole that has air pockets that "shoot" air onto the foot everytime they take a step. Might help also.

But, I have heard that Crocs are awesome shoes, and if I had the opportunity, I'd spend the money to get something worth it.

I walk marathons and I recommend a product called Body Glide.
It looks like a stick of deodorant. You glide it on your feet and it prevents friction. You can purchase it at sporting goods stores. I bought mine at REI. I have a little travel size one.
I always had salt water sandles as a kid. My kids have the croc knock offs. Both are great.

As an adult, I think Crocs are well worth the money!! You can find them occasionally at Costco for a lot less than $40 for child sizes. Also G.I. Joe's carries them and frequently has them on sale. I don't know how much Nordstrom charges for the child sizes, but adult sizes aren't $40. You can throw the Crocs in the dishwasher to clean them, so any fungus problems are washed away and they are sterilized. You can get short socks, without the cuff, to wear and this might help with the excess perspiration during the summer. Crocs come in various styles and your daughter might like the Mary Jane style. Check out their website and see what's available and they'll have the msp's there as well. It's a good starting point. I did notice last summer that when I wore my
Crocs my heals didn't get as calloused and cracked like they do when I wear my Birks. I told this to my cousin in Eastern Washington as she is always wearing Birks and working in her garden. So she got herself a pair of Crocs and noticed the difference as well.

They have generic crocs at our wal-mart but it sounds like any cheap old sandel will do. The less coverage the better. You could also go over your fenced yard so he can run barefoot.

We LOVE crocs. My 4 yr old, my husband, and I all wear them. My daughter lives in them. Easy to put on, doesn't matter if they get wet (dry very quickly), easy to clean, don't suck up odors, and SO comfortable.
As far as escalators, just keep him in the middle of the step and have him walk off the escalator at the top. It's the same with shoelaces - don't let them get caught in the edges or seams of the step as it collapes at the top.
CHECK THE INTERNET. You can find dozens of crocs on ebay for under $20 including shipping. However, I recommend you size them first - go to Nordstrom or Joe's Sporting Goods and have him try them on to get the right size and then order on the internet. (sizes tend to be funky)

My daughter loves her crocs, but they are bad when she tries to run. (she is 1 1/2). They sort of trip her up because of the shape. But, she does love to wear them, and I have heard that adults love them too.

I think that the Crocs are worth the money...we got my daughter a pair last year (the smallest ones size 4/5) and she loves them. Finally had to buy the next size up for her. I bought my husband a pair of real ones, he used to have the fake ones from Walmart and he noticed the difference between the real Crocs and the fake ones. Needless to say he loves the real ones and was quite happy that I spent the money. On the price of $40.00, that is really expensive. Even Macy's doesn't sell them for that much. I don't know where you live, but I found my daughter's for $25.00 at one of the shoe store at the Seattle Premium Outlet Mall. The other place that you can look to find them cheaper is on eBay. If you don't know what size your son wears go to a store, get him to try them on and then go to an outlet store or eBay. Hope that all this helps and good luck! N.

The only thing I know about Crocs is, keep your kids off escallators with them on. They get caught in the steps and catch the child's foot.

For the stinky feet, I a make my own rub. I mix
Olive oil,
Jojoba oil
grape seed oil,
grapfruit seed extract,
Oreganol,
vitamine E oil,
peppermint oil

Next time I make it, I will blend in some aloe vera from my plants. I rub it on every night after a shower. Feels nice and works great. Put socks on after to keep oil on feet. The only other thing I liked is Arbonne Herbal Foot Care. It is so expensive, so I made my own.

Crocs should not cost $40!!! for a child shoes! I have seen Crocs for $12 to 14. If you know anyone who has access to the base, they sell them at the Px/Bx too.
There also is a great one called Polliwalks and a brand called Nothinz- which I liked better. I think around Olympia area... Alpine Express has a good selection of outdoor shoes or try Capitol Footwear. Online search will bring you some savings.
Those type of shoes are light and they will be better for your child's feet.
I also really like Keens. They were great for my children.

I have purchased shoes similar to crocs from skechers that are like twenty bucks I dont know if he is saying use the crocs for any other reason then the air circulation but I think forty bucks on kids shoes is a bit much. They are great though for the summer because you can use them in any sort of condition and they can go in the dishwasher if you need to superclean them. I would double check if they need to be specifcally Croc brand or if you can get a bit cheaper version.

I'm a total cheapskate (and actually think Crocs are kind of ugly), but I have a friend who has purchased Crocs for her children and she absolutely swears by them. She has informed me that she intends to give me her children's Crocs when her kids grow out of them for my twins. She tells me that I will become a Croc convert from that moment on - and I have to confess that I'll be watching your responses with interest to see what other Croc owners have to say about them!

My 2 1/2 yr old started wearing crocs because her feet were too fat on top for regular shoes, and she loves them!She has had the same pair for over a year and they have not worn out yet so I figure at 2 years worth thats only $20 per year for shoes not so bad. The real crocs you can throw in the wash and they come out clean and in one peice. They are also easy for her to put on herself.

Side Note: Crocs get stuck in escalators and have hurt children. Just something to be aware of.

I bought generic crocs and they left blisters on the sides of my sons feet.

My son loves to wear crocs. He wore them last summer and I have gotten several pairs for him already for this spring. Each time he outgrows another size I by him more. I have found some really good deals on gently used crocs on ebay. You can get a pair of crocs for $15 if you look around.

Even without the sweaty feet issue, I think they are still worth the money. My son wears them year round (with socks in winter) when I will let him. The big plus is that crocs and rain boots are shoes that they can put on by themselves, which gives a sense of independence and gives me one less thing to do when we're trying to get out the door.

I think that all the hype about them being unsafe is b.s. As long as your child is a good walker and runner, they're fine.

I got ours at the stand in the mall. They are real crocs; they have lots of styles and colors, and I forget the price but it was definitely less than $40.

I have never owned a pair of Crocs, but I do own a pair of NOthinz, which are very similiar. My sister-in-law gave them to me as a gift. I love them. I have a problem with smelly, sweaty feet in cheap sandals and shoes and sometimes even with the more pricy sandals. These also have the stuff on them that fights odor causing bacteria and they are dishwasher safe and are cheaper than Crocs. I don't know if crocs have the piece that swings to make it a clog or for added support at the heal. I have never looked at them. Also they mold to the shape of your foot making them custom to yourself. I found some kids sized nothinz at shoes.com for 12.50. I think I will get my kids some for summer. The only down side is they are not as easy to find in as many colors. Good Luck!

I love love love the crocs for my kids. They wear very well, as a matter of fact they are wearing their same ones from last summer, and other than being a bit dirty from todays outdoor play, they still look like they did the day we bought them. They wear them all year long and the only time I have had to buy new ones is when they outgrew their first pairs. My youngest is currently wearing hand me down crocs from 3 yrs ago and they look almost as perfect as when her big sis wore them!!
They are worth the money!!! Plus they are super easy for the kiddos to get on themselves which is always a great thing when you have a bunch of little feet to get out of the house :)

We are a Crocs family and love them (5 children, 2 grandchildren). I have never seen them priced that high, ours were 19.95 to 29.95, depending on age of child. We have the original Crocs.

Well the crocs in his size aren't that expensive I think they are closer to $20 but still its spendy.. but here's my experience.. we bought the fake crocs at payless, they are 8.99 and my son LIVES in them we spent a major portion of last winer in HI but even after we got home ( AK) he wore them all summer..well that is when he had to wear shoes LOL.. anyways they never smelled and the great thing is they are easlity washed.. now here's the catch... I tried some on myself..the fake ones.. and I said YUCK they were uncomfortable to say the least.. but then I saw them ( the real ones) at costco and tried them on and the real ones are really comfy... but I doubt your DS will notice as my didn't ( he was just over 3 when we bought them originally) and if you go on a sale week you can get them buy one get one half off :) oh and I have never had a problem with the escalator.. never even heard of that until you mentioned it... anyways HTH BEcky
