We have Blue Cross Blue Shield of TX. We've been on this policy since Jan. It is "ok" but overall a good plan.

I say "ok" and that is because I have been spoiled with excellent health coverage for years through BCBS of MA. With this policy, we are paying a little more out of pocket and we do have to pay for a few extras. My Dr. visits are just $20 and everything else is reasonable. I was accustomed to no out of pocket expenses...

Overall though....I am thankful I at least have coverage this good.

You might try their website. www.bcbstx.com

Good luck. It is not fun changing plans.

I just went through something similar and we had to change insurance. I tried calling different insurance companies on my own and even talked to a (supposed) insurance broker. It all confusing and very expensive. Then a friend told me about this insurance broker (Jason, see below for info) and he was a HUGE help! He specializes in medical insurance so he really knows his stuff. He will tell you the truth about what will be best for you, even if it means that you don't buy a policy through him. I highly recommend him!

We use Steve Neuner with Alkali Insurance. He's an insurance agent and will help you find the best option for you and your family. His number is ###-###-####. We LOVE him. He is honest and will not simply tell you what you should do. He will make sure that you understand all of your options and then help you to make an educated decision. We have been using him for about 6 years. Just tell him that D. Hamilton recommended him.
Good luck with your decision - I know that it is such a stressful time.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

F.,
If you have medical issues and receive continued medical treatment, most new plans would have a pre-existing condition clause that would not treat your medical conditions for months, up to several years. Depending on the plan.

You would need to read the pre-existing clause in the new plan closely to avoid an unpleasant surprise when you receive medical treatment.

I used to sell insurance for Al Boenker Insurance.

To start with, you said you have health issues, which means PRE EXISTING conditions. If you change to a private insurance they DONOT HAVE TO COVER your pre existing conditions!!!!!!!

The new coverage, if it has co pays, the deductible is probably just on the Major Medical, i.e., Hospitalization.

I would ask for the insurance agents name and phone number that is writing the company policy. He won't bite you. Call and talk with him, let him explain the new deductible.

Foremost, DO NOT CANCEL THE CURRENT coverage until you have a new policy in force, that covers ALL you pre existing conditions!!!!!!

I have had Humana for three years now, and I think they are great. I, too, have health problems including being a cancer survivor and arthritis. My premium is reasonable, and I have very few complaints. From my erxperiences, I think they are much better than Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Don't cancel your husband's health insurance until you have all the info. I was going to do the same thing and go with private insurance when my rates at work went up, but once I started looking into it, I found that I would be DENIED because of my pre-existing condition. My condition is not even that serious but the meds are kind of expensive so I was told that I would not be able to get coverage outside of employer group coverage. Just make sure you get all of the info before you do anything.
