The worst thing to do is punish him that will make him not want to poop on the potty bc he will think that it is a bad thing. If he is still using pullups what I did with my 3 year old was cut a hole in the pull up and when I saw that she was trying to go poop I would rush her to the potty with the pullup on and sit her on the potty and she would go that way. It made her fell me comfotbale that way. Maybe you can try that. I hoped I helped I hope everything works out.

Girlfriend I am with you!!! I have the same problem!! I wanted to write on this but I could handle it myself...I can't. I took my son to the dr. and she put him on Mirlax which is a stool softner, he likes to hold it in...he will push his whole body to one side to avoid the potty...It has helped...he feels the stool then wants to run to the potty b/c it is comming out easy. We are getting some diarea..but I will let you know by the end of the week it should help!!Good luck! Try not to talk about it and make a big deal that has helped us to!! K.

My son was almost 4 by the time he was going poop on the potty full time. Before that he would hide and me and my husband would catch him with his knees up to his stomache face red as a beet and saying "I not poopin', I just sittin'. When he would poop in his pants as I am sure you can imagine it was very frustrating for us and we would get angry at times, not at him, at the fact that we had no idea what to do. We just kept it to ourselves and talked about what to do. One day my husband went into the bathroom with him and found out he had already gone. My hubby handed my son the underwear and told him that if wanted to keep pooping in his pants then he could clean it out. He showed him how to dump it in the potty and then brought it to the sink put a squirt of soap on them and showed him how to scrub them together to get the stain out. My son does not like anything dirty on his hands and after a few episodes of this would go running to the bathroom to make sure he made it so he didn't have to touch the poop. I wish you the best of luck, he will come around and you will both be much happier.

Has anyone else noticed the words we say for the kids such as poop and potty and then end up using them when there are no kids around!! I just think it is funny what being a mom can do for you.

Hi S.,
I had a similar problem with my first son. I realized he couldn't poop on the "potty" he had to set on the toilet so that he could bend his legs a bit. Once we figured that out, he never had another accident.
With my daughter, we wouldn't let her outside to play one weekend until she went on the potty it took all weekend but it worked. She new if she wanted to go to preschool she had to use the potty. She was 2 1/2 and very stubborn, she would even bring me the things to change her diaper when she went!
I hope this helps.

Oh I hear ya loud and clear! I'm going through the SAME thing with my 3 yr old son right now! I actually posted a request very simular to yours and no one responded! We actually had a poop in the potty last night for the first time in a very long time! Yay! But really there wasn't anything I could do to motivate him other than just encouraging him to do it. He'll tell me when he needs to go but as soon as I brought him to the potty he'd freeze up and say he didn't need to go any more. Talk about frustrating!! So I just kept bringing him in every time he said he needed to go and watched him very closely during the day to be sure he wasn't sneaking off to go in his underwear. It really is true what every has told you and me too, that suddenly one day they just decide to do it. But it doesn't help you be any less anxious for that day to arrive! Hang in there, I totally understand your frustration! It makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one going through this right now! I hope it makes you feel better too!

lol..Sorry but I had to laugh. My daughter did the SAME Thing. I did the same thing you are doing. Everyone kept telling me when she is ready she will just do it. I did not believe it. I hated when she would poop her pants. Oh the memories.UGH!!!! One day I was at a friends house and she needed to pee. I brought her in the bathroom and walked out. I got to talking and then noticed she was taking a long time. BECAUSE SHE WAS POOPING! I think i did the potty dance for like a week. Then everything was good. he will get it I promise,,

We've tried everything as well and everytime he poops in his underwear he just sits there and smiles like it was kind of funnny...arrgghhh!! If I ever do find a solution I will let you know!! Glad to hear alot of other kids are going through this too though!
