My daughter is expecting her 5th baby in February. I want to make her some new maternity tops or dresses. Any suggestions of patterns would be welcome.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for the suggestions. I think I'll look for non-pregnancy patterns that can be adapted. It annoys me that maternity styles are so limited. Blessings to all you moms out there. You are special.

I made myself some wrap pants recently that I wish I had while I was pregnant. They're fully adjustable and only take about 2 yards of fabric and 3-4 hours to sew up. Let me know if you're interested and I'll toss you some instructs.

Wow, a mama who sews! What a blessing for your daughter : ) I don't have any patterns, but I do have some full dresses that you might use as a pattern to copy if you can do that - - - I can barelyy sew buttons and torn seams, but IF you can, and that would help, I'm in Lydia and would be happy to give you one of the dresses. Sure are cool and comfortable and modest, too : )

As a matter of fact, if you'd like to sew some for me - - - I'd sure be willing to pay : ) They are basically like the old moomoos, hit mid to just below mid-calf, gathered pretty much over breasts with full sleeves that hang almost to elbows : )

Blessings

I made a few things for myself when I was pregnant with my daughter who is now two. I used Simplicity, McCalls and Butterick patterns. They work pretty good, but I need to adjust them a bit (I am petite) and the styles were limited.

Also for tops, look for non maternity empire waist tops and just make the bottom front fuller and a bit longer.

I hope this helps.

What a lucky girl! Most of the patterns you'll find in stores are fine. I'm sure she'd also benefit from things to wear during that transition period after the baby comes. The classic nursing patterns are from Elizabeth Lee Designs. There is also an ebay store that I just ordered one of their dress patterns from http://stores.ebay.com/Sew-Many-Things. You can also check the clearance sales at www.motherwear.com. I've gotten items for $5 that are first quality, but at the end of the season. Their sizes aren't consistent though. The items made of stretchy material tend to run large while wovens run small. Congratulations on the new grand baby!

Since it will be cold most of her pregnancy you should take her clothes that she is most comfotable in when she isnt prego(ir jeans) and sew a temporary belly on them so she can feel normal. I am prego with my 4th and i feel like it is taking over my body, hahah. just to wear y own clothes would be a god send. my freind did that with her baby.

Wow!
Will you adopt me?
I need some maternity clothes too:)
Hahah

Well, I recommend looking at Ann Taylor Loft Maternity styles, Old Navy, Gap, Mimi Maternity, and get some ideas.
I also LOVE Isabella Oliver Maternity wear. Very pricey but beautiful. This will give you some great recent fashion ideas and then perhaps finding patterns that look like some of these.

If you were my mom, that's what I would desire for style anyway.

HOpe this helps.

What a sweet gift you'll be giving your daughter. Bless you!

It's so easy it's Simplicity #3728 from wal-mart is a great adaptable pattern. I have used it for formals, dresses, tops. the a-line style is very useful. The lastlonger top I made I made the 4 panels out of the front pattern. Best to you and your daughter.
