I Want to Lose Weight!

I want to lose weight! My son just turned one and I am still at least 20lbs from my pregnancy weight. I am very frustrated cause I was always the girl who could eat what she wanted and never exercise and still maintained a very small figure. Since this pregnancy though I am really struggling. Everything's the exact opposite. Just the task of getting dressed in the morning is difficult since I cannot wear practically any of my clothes. I've been doing aerobics and some light weight training but I don't really think it's working or is intense enough to bring about a change.

Since my son just turned one and I'm stopping the breast feeding I'm ready to diet and really take the exercise to a new level. I want to do it the right and healthy way. Does anyone have any suggestions or stories on what helped you post pregnancy to get back to your pre pregnancy weight? I don't necessarily want be bone skinny but I want to be healthier and happier with what I see when I look in the mirror. I would really appreciate any suggestions.

Hi T.,

I know you have already received some great guidance, but wanted to put my two cents in! I have a 2 year old and gained 15 pounds since I gave birth to her, in addition to the extra baby weight. My husband and I have been doing Weight Watchers online for the last two months. Without exercising (not what I recommend, but its just where my life is right now), I have lost 15 pounds in 2.5 months. I feel really good, its easy to add to my lifestyle, and I dont have to do a lot of extra shopping for it. ONline has tons of easy and tasty recipes, too. www.weightwatchers.com

Good luck!!

Hi, T..
I completely understand where you are coming from. I know with me that after having my baby a year ago, I am still carrying close to 15lbs of my 75lbs gained during pregnancy. And the weight is in areas that have never been a problem! I spoke with my doctor. He said the best thing is not to diet because we aren't doing something that we'll continue forever and we'll gain it back. He said to get the SouthBeach Cookbook and start Phase3. I could start phase 1 and then advance if I wanted to, but he considered it a healthy way of eating and that alone would help out. So I am trying it. We'll see how it goes. I will tell you that its nice to have a new menu of great foods and the food is really good and easy to make!

Hi T.,
I lost 30 lbs. in 3 months in a healthy way and no exercising! It's the Weigh Down Workshop. We get together on Thursdays at my house from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. and watch a 1 1/2 hour DVD. I also took nutritional supplements that helped burn calories. If you would like to know more call me @ ###-###-#### or cell # ###-###-####. Would love for you to join us :) If there is a conflict on Thurs. night for you, than I can email the basic tips we follow. Everyone in my class lost 20-30 lbs. in the 3 months we met.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
God Bless,

Hi T.,

I'm trying to lose weight myself. One thing that really is helping me is a low carb shake that I drink in the mornings called the "Edge". It's a chocolate shake that's 11 oz, but is only 100 calories. It tastes best when it's cold, but it has helped me to drop 10 in two weeks. You can find these at either Walmart or Sam's. They are a little pricey. ($1.50 each)

Of course I am doing exercise too. I try to do 10-20 min. in the morning and 10-20 min at night. I alternate cardiosculpt, pilates, and lower body work.

Hope this helps. If you're open to diet pills, you might also try MegaT Green Tea pills. They also have these at Walmart.

Weight Watcher works really well, My son just turned one on May 6th- Yes I am less than I was before I got pregnant but that is because of all the added stress and complications I had during pregnancy. My husband left when I was 4 1/2 months pregnant just 3 months after we married and I was on strick bedrest.
I am starting weight watchers again but while I was planning the wedding I lost 25 pounds in 2 months.
It's just portion control.

Let me know how it goes if you decide, I also do low carbs.

I'm in the same situation (only I still have 60 lbs from the pregnancy). But I was always the chubby girl lol
I finally broke down and joined a gym and paid the extra for trainer sessions. I joined 24 hour fitness because they have a great kid's club and the price is reasonable. With the training sessions, I got a customized meal plan fit to what I can eat (lots of food allergies). I've lost about 15 lbs so far and only been going for two months...
Just my two cents... ~S.

Hi, there! I, too, found myself with someone else's body when my son was 3. With today's busy schedules, I don't have time to go to the gym 6 days a week like I used to. Here's what I'm doing (not done, I've still got weight to lose):

1) Exercise, incorporate cardio by walking laps at the mall or on my home stairstepper that I bought from another Mamasource Mom. 3 laps around Willow Bend Mall is 1.5 miles.

2) Stop eating when you're just full. Get up and toss the plate so that you won't be tempted to continue eating.

3) Cut sodas and other unnecessary sugary foods from your diet. Did you know there can be over 20g of sugar in one yogurt? Skip nutrigrain-type bars unless you've looked read the labels first, for another example.

4) Watch transfats (raises bad cholesterol and lowers your good cholesterol)

5) Eat more veggies and fruits, less meats, breads and other fillers.

6) Always eat breakfast (a healthful lowfat/low calorie one). My fave is fruit w/ yogurt and granola. It keeps me full until lunch.

Of course, you should go by your own health needs or consult a nutritionist if you have special dietary needs.

I would recommend that you check out www.flylady.net and sign up for her emails. she partners with a lady named leanne, who will send out weekly menus with a shopping list. there are different options for people with different dietary needs. there is a sample menu you can try first. recently she came out with a book called body clutter, and it might be worth a try. Good luck. let me know what you think.

My advice is, start taking vitamin B6. 100 mg a day worked for me. It supports your metabolism, hormone balance (and therefore moods), energy levels (making any exercise program easier to stick with), and helps with heavy periods and PMS and ACNE. It also has some anti heart disease support. I also take gell caps of flax seed oil, which helps with appetite and metabolism and skin health. These are supported by a good multi vitamin and vitamin C. I dropped at least 20 pounds without restricting calories and I am smaller than before I married. If you want to read more about either B6 or flaxseed oil if you google B6 and weight loss, there were lots of good articles, same with flaxseed oil and weight loss.
PLUSS these are inexpensive and readily available at every drug store and grocery (I buy organic flaxseed oil at Sam's Club even). GOOD LUCK and contact me if you would like to hear more.

Hi T.!

I had the same problem after my second child and I started to do weight watchers. I have done so many diet and exercize programs and nothing has worked but when I started weight watchers I didnt have a problem staying on that. You can eat what you want you just have to watch your protion sizes. I love it and it taught me how to eat healthy. I exerisize about 4 times a week about 45 minutes a time and I do mostly cardio when I go. I just thought that I would share with you what worked for me. I hope that you find something that works for you and good luck!

Hi T.,
I see a great deal of postings you have made in the past and at the least always recognize your name. I am quickly responding - and while I don't have all the answers, I sympathsize what you are going through -- I am in the same boat and anxious to try and find the right way and the healthy way to finally get to see the scale to move. I too am about 20lbs over weight and my son is almost one year old (May 30th is the big day for him). Are you at all convenient to Coppell - perhaps you like to meet up with two other girls I meet up with at Kid country in Coppell to walk and let our kids play together at the park. The other girls I meet up with at least 1-3 times a week have 20 month old girls and one mom is expecting any day now. So, while I am not directly responding with the miracle diet advice- I am anxious to hear what other mom's recommend to you -- so please share the referrals if you can. I love this site and really have appreciated reading all the advice/referrals from moms in the area.

I did Weight Watchers to get my weight off. The program is awesome and really easy. I dropped 20 lbs. fairly quick. You can even do it while you are breastfeeding. They have a nursing mother's program.

HI T.!

The best thing for me was a program called Stroller Strides. Check it out online. www.strollerstrides.com

It is fantastic. I took classes in Austin. Now the locations are too far for me to drive. You may find it easier for you since you live further north.

I made great friends. Took classes with a personal trainer. My child made great friends and was entertained. It doesn't get better than that!

Good Luck!

hello! I was/am the same way about eating. it took me two years to get all the weight off. I finally realized after exercise wasn't taking it off as quickly as I thought (I had taken up running, and had never been a runner, thought it would fall off, but it didn't!), that I was still eating like I did when I was pregnant and nursing. I had, over the course of the year and some odd months that I was preggo and breastfeeding, changed my eating habits and was eating large portions. once I started really paying attention to my portion sizes, the weight started coming off again.

so, that's what I would suggest to you, a critical look at how much you're eating. it's no fun to have to pay attention when you've always been able to eat almost whatever! by the way, even though I wasn't losing weight running, my husband said everything definitely re-distributed and I had a better build when I was running. I took a running class with luke's locker in dallas and really enjoyed it. I'm preggo again, but will likely take it up again after this baby. good luck!

Hi T.,

I had an extra hard time getting back to my pre-pregnancy weight after my second. My husband had been turned onto a program by some people at his work. He had phenomenal success, losing 22 pounds in 9 days. When I did it, I lost 7 pounds and 13 1/2 inches. We have both kept it off and I have even lost about 3 more pounds using some of their maintenance products. The stuff is just awesome and makes you feel great! My husband became such a believer and was getting approached by so many people that he decided to work the business. I'd be happy to share more info with you if you're interested. You can check out his website at svarnell.isagenix.com. If you're interested in doing anything with it, be sure to get back with me before doing any ordering because my husband can show you how to get the discount and save like 30% or something like that. Best of luck!

Hi T.,

I strongly recommend Weight Watchers. I am still breast feeding and have been on WW (you get to eat more when you are breast feeding) and I have been able to drop weight steadily while eating healthy.
I also purchased a pedometer and I try to walk every day.
You can check out their website. Or email me if you want more info. I go to the center in Dallas on Inwood and Lovers but there may be one that is closer to you.
