How Long Did It Take You to Lose the Baby Weight?

Please tell me I'm not alone! And I'm sorry for the long thread:

I was at a healthy 150lbs when my son was born. After I had him, I was already down to 133, but about 2 months after that, I gained back 25lbs even though I was breastfeeding and pumping and excercising, eating healthy, etc. Fast forward to now, when my son is 22 months old, I weigh more or about the same when I was pregnant.

My thyroid isn't the issue -and I actually have mild hyperthyroidism, which usually works in my favor. I get bloodwork done every 6 months to a year to keep it monitered, and it's always been the same level, even while pregnant.
If I could cut out my entire middle section - I would be happy - but since that doesn't seem to be an option...
I am 5'6" and weigh anywhere from 150 to 155 - and I keep losing those same 5 lbs but nothing more. I eat healthy, and I'm pretty active, but I don't have a real excercise regimen considering I have a toddler and no sitter, no gym membership (no extra money for one), and getting outside usually depends on the weather. I own about 10 different exercise dvd's - but can't find the time to do them with my tot running around, who also doesn't take naps anymore.
I don't really have the money to spend on diet programs, but I did buy Alli (haven't taken it since I'm terrified of the 'anal leakage'). I would consider nutrisystem or something if anyone knows how much it really costs a month...
Does anyone else have this problem? I don't even have a goal weight anymore because I'm so frustrated - 10 lbs would be a nice start - I feel like I should see some result by now - It's been almost 2 years since his birth!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you all for your responses! I'm still wishing for that magic pill, or maybe I could find a tapeworm? I'm just glad to know I'm not alone - I just want my body back before I decide to do this all over again with the next kiddo! Maybe I'll just put on one of my son's pampers and start taking the Alli...

Hi R.!

I just purchased and started the 6 Week Body Makeover Challenge by Michael Thurmond (the physical trainer from Extreme Makeover). He has had 20 years of success, and a very thorough plan. Since you don't have the extra $ to spend, I would be happy to share my packet with you (I actually had to save up for a few months before we could afford it). As far as exercise goes, he recommends an 18 minute workout designed to target your trouble areas 2 times a week, 4 if you really want fast results. And walking! Lots of it. I have two little ones, so I just throw them both in the car and take them and the stroller for a good long walk in the mall. Anyway, if you are interested, just shoot me an email and I can get you copies of everything.

Best of luck on whatever you decide

Hello R.,

Just to let you know that you are not alone. I am struggling with the same thing as we speak. I am just trying to take it one day at a time. Please let me know what works for you because I too don't have extra cash either.

I was 125 5'6' before I had my first baby and gained a whopping 50 lbs with her. It took me over a year to get down to the 130s and about two years before I could lose that last 10 pounds. I lost more of the weight after I stopped breastfeeding. Some women seem to lose more while breastfeeding but It wasn't the case for me.

I walked ALOT and didn't eat any junk food. I ate a ton of chicken and veggies, wild/brown rice and veggies, beans and rice, and occasionally ate red meat with a side veggie. I usually had a broth based soup for lunch, and for breakfast I had a non sugary cereal or eggs with wheat toast. For snacks I ate all the fruit and veggies I wanted. (no yummy dips) I also made sure I drank water throughout the day.

Hang in there! And don't give up! I know you will reach your goals.
Good luck to you!

R.,
I'm keeping track of everything I eat, you can do the same by hand, or use an on-line service. I'm using eDiets menu and tracking plan. I like it. It really helps to record what you eat, you may be eating more than you think.

Try a pedometer too. Then you can see how much you're moving. Maybe adding a few thousand more steps to your day is what you need.

I use Alli too, though not consistently and I had no problem. As long as you eat right, there is no issue. Or there wasn't for me.

I'm losing weight with eDiets, but have had a few set back and I'm determined to keep trying.

Don't give up and good luck! If you want to do eDiets pm me and I'll give you more info.

You are not alone...I'm right there with you. My baby is 8 mths old now, and I'd like to lose about 25 more lbs to get back to where I was pre-baby.

Here's a combo of advice from Dr Oz, someone on Rachael Ray show and something I read online on a nutrition website. A woman needs to exercise at least 5 days a week in order to maintain a better metabolism rate in order to burn calories faster than average which is helpful to lose weight. Exercising 3 days a week is not enough, so I try to do 5. Also, work up a sweat at least 3 times per week. And drink at least 64 oz of water per day so that your body won't retain water. Portion control is smart too, plus try to eat nothing from a box; aim to eat lots of fruits and veggies.

I've been dieting myself for about 1 month and am losing about 1 lb per week which is managable. My cousin is dieting with me also and has lost more than me and insists on eating 5 small meals per day rather than just 3. Also, she's not eating later than 7pm. I've been walking every day either outside or going to a mall; Grapevine Mills is 1 mile around so that makes it easy to know what you've accomplished.

Are you using any sort of birth control? Your 25lb weight gain made me think that it could be related to birth control. If you're on the Depo Provera shot, you could easily have gained that weight and have issues taking it off - the shot is known for causing weight issues.

I was 125 pre-pg, 150 at birth, and lost all the weight in a couple of months.

are you doing all the typical stuff? eating small meals, watching portions, not eating after 8pm, don't drink a lot of alcohol, drinking lots of water, etc, etc, etc?

once it finally decides to stay warmer than a couple of days, stay outside and active with your son. run around with him, play outside games with him.

are there things you can do AFTER your son goes to bed? I play soccer twice a week and hockey once a week and none of those interfere with my son since he's normally in bed before I leave OR it's a good time for dad to do bedtime.

you can find time to exercise, you just have to be creative.

Girl, I feel your pain!
I weighed 139 when I got pregnant with my twins (they are 20 months old) Now I am over 170! I cannot seem to lose weight & keep it off. I am with ya on the frustration! The only thing that I can think of is talking to your PCP about cutting certain things out of your diet & talking about different exercise techniques that focus on weight loss. That's what I did & I have lost 4 lbs in 1 week. Just by portion control & cardio!
