I have a four month old daughter. She does not go to daycare and is not around other children. At what age did you start having your children go to a playgroup and how did you find the playgroup?

What can I do next?

With my older daughter we started at 4 months. It was great for me because I was able to get some adult interaction & she learned to play with her peers. We were in it until we moved (she was 4 then).

We started getting together with other moms on TriadMommies.com when my daughter was about 8 months old. We would have started sooner but I didn't know anyone else with kids her age!

I started taking my daughter a couple months ago when she was 9 months old. I am a member of a group called Mom's Club. There are chapters everywhere. There is an infant playgroup and I have seen newborns come out.

My son is almost 11 months and he doesn't go to daycare and he's not around other children except at church. He has been taken to the nursery since he was born and I feel like he gets the interaction he needs with other children on Sundays.

you could also try moms club, most offer age-specific playgroups as well as group activities with all the kids and moms. i'm a member of the summerville chapter, and have been a member of chapters in the other states that we have lived in since my son was 18months old (he's now 7). you can check http://www.momsclub.org for more information and to find a chapter in your area.

hey there my name is C. and i have 3 children ages 13 6 and 2 1/2. with my youngest collin i wanted to enjoy to stay at home with him and spoil him and have him all to myself.
well be careful what ya wish for collin........ i can tell you this much and if this is not a close net bond i do not know how much closer we could get...lol i can not even pee by myself:)
it was bad when we would go and visit my friends and collin would cling to me like peanut butter on to jelly.
i finally told my husband he has to go to daycare. well i did not want him in a real daycare so i found a moms day out program. it is in a church and its from 9-12 not real long but enough for me time
i can honestly tell you that in a 2 week turn around HUGE collin was such a shy baby at 1st but that place done made him bloom. he has friends he has learned how to share not that afraid of strangers that i am friends with
it was the greatest thing in the world.
i hope my experience has help ya.. good luck

Hi H.,
I started my children early in age going to playgroup. I have two kids and my youngest is only 13 months so he was going to playgroup only a couple weeks old. I hope that helps. I am a moderator of a playgroup in Jacksonville, All you have to do is do a yahoo search in groups for playgroups in your area.

My son started having play dates at about 5 months old and now at a year old, those boys are his best friends. i know how weird that may sound, I am still in shock by it. You would have to see them together to understand. Do you have children that you can have play dates with? All 3 of these boys are no more then 3 weeks in age. Worked out great.

We started at 3 months. It was more of a moms group with nursing babies, but then we then we became good friends and our babies became friends and have been meeting each week since. They are all 17 months now. It has been wonderful.

as early as possible on the playgroups. they learn interaction easier at an early age. good habits as well as bad so watch your baby closely.between 18 mos and 3 yrs for sure. check the internet or your local library.

This is a great club. I started my daughter as a baby. It's really for the Moms at this point, kinda like that Tostitos commercial.

I joined www.centralpiedmontmommies.com It looks like your area would be classified under www.trianglemommies.com but I am not sure. They would have infant playgroups to go to. I take my son to the toddler playgroup and started at 9 months old and he loves it.

I would suggest Moms Club for playgroups. Go to the Moms Club international site and you can find the one for your area.

I joined a playgroup, and I found it from a Yahooo group search. I Would go ahead and join now. Right now the baby is still small, and not in datcare, but its good for you to get out with her. Good luck. Plus by the time she is older and wants to do playdates, you will already have a good friendships in play.

I started taking my daughter to part time daycare at four months because I had to go to school. She hated it at first and she would cry and scream. But after a couple weeks she was used to it and I saw her making little friends and getting attached to her teacher. I highly suggest starting now! My daughter is still very attached to us but loves to play with other babies. Every chace I get I let her play. I suggest googling play groups and mommy-and-me stuff in the area. The park is a great way to meet other moms. I would just put her inthe stroller and walk around...talk to people! Also, Barnes and Noble does story time. You can get a schedule. Although she is a little young, it is never too early to expose her to book snad get her around other children.

www.trianglemommies.com!!!

I joined TriangleMommies - a local group of over 1,000 moms from all over the area - when my little boy was just a few months old. I didn't like the Yahoo groups nearly as much. TM is the BEST!! They have tons of different activities including baby playdates. Some of the baby playdates we went to were at coffee shops - more so the moms could socialize and get out of the house! Some are at people's homes, others at parks, etc. Then there is also an online forum that has sooo much information! It is truly a GREAT resource!

I too used meetup.com when my daughter was a under a year. We have now been in our group for over a year and 5 of the moms, including myself are adding new additions so it makes a great support group. I love it and my daughter has a blast, we meet once a week with other ideas planned as we can think of them, its the best. Even husbands attend so can't complain.

I just took my son a few weeks ago. Not that I wouldn't have loved to go sooner. If you have a playgroup in mind, check with the hostess and see what ages she prefers. They'll be able to let you know. I know other mom's who took their kids as soon as they could get them out of the house. I guess its really up to the group that you go to.

I started taking my son to playgroups when he was 6 months old. I went through yahoo groups to find something. I had a really hard time finding something that fit what I wanted out of a playgroup so I started my own and hoped that there were other moms who were looking for the same things I was. Response was overwhelming! I actually had to limit the number of members in the group so that it didnt grow too large and 'annonymous' for the members. We've had the group going for five years now!

Hi H.
In my opionion and experience, the play group at a young age is purely for the mommy. :-) Up to about 1 year old you are all she needs to play, but if you want to take her to a mommy and me group or gymboree that might be fun at age the age they allow you in. YOu may want to see out a mommy and me yoga class....fun and good for both of you and it can go up to age 5 years. Just some thoughts.

I started taking my youngest to an infant massage at 5 weeks. Then as she got older she went into the playgroup held at the same time as the massage.

They are never to young--well in my opinion anyway.

My daughter and I started going to playgroups when she was 2 months old. While she wasn't doing much playing, I needed the social interaction with the other moms.
