I am one day late with my period. I took a home test today and it was neg. I still feel like I am pregnant though. With my other 2 boys the tests came up right away! So, i'm a little confused. I've heard this happens to people on occassion that the tests may take a few days but is that really common?

What can I do next?

Mine always came up positive but I have a friend who wasn't able to get a positive on a home pregnancy test until 6-7 weeks with any of her pregnancies.

I just knew I was pregnant my first time around. I tried the hpt and it came back neg. I tried a couple days later and tested pos. I suggest trying it again. When in doubt I guess go to the drs. Good luck!

It's happened twice to me when I tested on the day my period was due. I re-tested a couple of days later and the tests came up positive. It just meant my hormone level wasn't high enough to register with the hpt yet. Just test again in a couple of days if you still haven't got your period. :0 )

Yes, that happened to me with my last baby. I took a First Response pregnancy test and it showed negative. I knew I was pregnant because I had morning sickness. I was way past the early horomone that First Response detects, so I took a Clear Blue Easy test which showed I was pregnant.

Extremely common, has happened to me several times if taken that soon after your period. Wait a few more days, and also take and early detection pregnancy test...Hope this helps.

I've never had a HPT come up positive one day past.

My first child I was 10wks pregnant before ANY test showed positive even the Dr.'s blood tests and I took 3 of those!

The others were 8, 7, and didn't test for this one.

Happened to me, too. I took a test (was SURE I was pg) before church and it was neg. When I came home, I glanced in the trash and saw another line. Knowing you aren't supposed to read them that late, I waited and took another. So it's entirely possible. You'll know soon enough! :)

With my 3rd I had a home pregnancy test AND a blood test come back negative, so it's definately possible! I ended up taking another home test a week or so later and it finally came back positive.

I was told by doctors - you can always have a false negative test - but never a false positive. If you think the test is wrong - call your doctor - he/she will call in an order for blood work and that will give a definitive answer.

Good Luck!

It can happen depending on when the egg actually implanted which can take 6-12 days so it's possible to be but just not have high enough hormones to be picked up yet. It's also possible to get bad tests, to do it wrong and from some reason some women can't use certain tests. You might want to try a different brand. Sometimes the dollar store tests work betten then the name brand ones.

i was six weeks pregnant before a test came up positive for being pregnant. I knew I was, based on how i felt, and what was going on with my body, but the test kept on negative.

I also bought the dollar store brand and that was when it showed positive. So now I only get the dollar store ones, and for a dollar i dont mind if it shows negative one day and have to retest a week later at all.

I don't know how common it is, but I've take taken preg tests that were neg when I was sure I was based on how I felt and everything going on with my body (I have 4 children), but the tests for me always ended up true. 2x I miscarried, then most recently I had a phantom pregnancy. With the the phantom, I felt pregnant in every way, even my belly expanding like normal, even going so far as to seem to feel the baby moving - but there was no baby there. I did 3 OTC tests and 1 lab serum, and they were all negative, but my body was acting in every way like it definitely was nurturing a baby - even at 19 weeks since my last period.

So, you have to go with what makes sense to you, and listening to your body is always a good idea, but just be aware that once in a great rare while something really weird happens. However, you're pretty early yet. If you get to the point of 2 missed periods and the tests are still negative but you feel it should be positive, then start investigating. But, it is most likely to be clearly resolved one way or another long before that.

Congratulations either way, and always continue to enjoy the babies you already have. Keep smiling...:)

Interesting. The test turned positive immediately when I was pregnant with our son. I can't remember if I was late or not. (He's 8 now - and we weren't really trying yet when we were blessed with his presence!) We were actually trying with our daughter. The month I was pregnant with her, the first test I took came up negative. So, I waited until I was a week late (really difficult!) and that came up ever so faintly positive and took the whole three minutes to show. (She is now 5.)

I never thought about the difference in gender as why one popped up right away and the other didn't. Just thought I conceived sooner or later.

Hello R., Yes, when I was preg with my 3rd child, I went to my obgyn, the urine test came back neg. I insisted that I was preg, so he did a blood test, which comfirmed it. This test was so accurate that he was able to tell me how many days gestation I was. Good luck.

I have never had a hpt come up positive. Not when I was pregnant with my daughter and not when I was pregnant with my triplets. I took an extra one after my pregnancy with the triplets had been verified by the dr just to see if it would come up positive and it still came up negative. Good luck.

As with most of the other posters, this happened to me too. I took a home test when I thought I might be pregnant (with my 2nd, a daughter), and it came up negative. I figured that I must have been wrong, but then a month later at my annual OB/GYN appt, they told me I was pregnant, and I had been pregnant back at the time of the home test. It would have been pretty early on at the time of the home test, so the hormones probably just weren't showing up yet. I've never had any morning sickness or other pregnancy symptoms, so I believed the initial test. If you think you could be pregnant, treat yourself as if you are, and take good care of yourself just in case.
