So What Happened?

Thank you all SO much for the wonderful responses. I loved reading every single one of them. I ended up calling him to see if he could meet me for lunch yesterday. I got there early and told the waitress my plan and gave her a baby bottle. When hubby came in he ordered tea, as usual, and when the waitress brought it out it was in the bottle I had given her. He loved it. He looked at me and I said I'm pregnant. He said did you just tell me you're pregnant? We were both excited, hugging and crying in the middle of the room! Every person who walked past us he would tell them that we just found out.

I'm also going to use the poem for the Grandparents tonight for my Mom. We are celebrating her birthday. I took one of the digital pregnancy tests last night, took a picture of it and put it at the bottom of the poem. I'm putting all of it in a picture frame as a present to my Mom tonight.

Again, thank you so much for all the responses! I love them all!

Well.. when I had my first one, I told my husband by making him dinner with everything "baby"... Baby back ribs, Baby corn, baby peas... and then I gave him a Daddy to Be card. He cried! It was so cute.

You could buy a pacifier to leave on the table. When he asks what it's for you can tell him " I thought you might need that around June" (or whenever you're due)

Okay, Wolfgang's reply just cracked me up. =)

I don't know any good ideas on telling your hubby but here is a cute poem you could use to tell the grandparents.

Dear Grandpa & Grandma,

I do not have a face to see,
Or put inside a frame.
I do not have soft cheeks to kiss.
I don't yet have a name.

Not yet can you hold my tiny hands,
Nor whisper in my ear.
It's still too soon to sing a song,
Or cuddle me so near.

But all that will change come this June;
When they say I am due.
I am your newest grandchild;
And I can't wait until I meet you!

All I ask between now and then
Is your love for me to grow.
I promise I'll be worth the wait;
Just think of all the joy we'll know!

So as you're waiting patiently,
Please pray lots of prayers for me.
I cannot wait to be a part
Of this wonderful family!

Congratulations on your pregnancy. Be sure to tell us how you decide to break the news.

This is a poem I found when I had my third child I sent it to my mom and dad, you can change it around a bit for your hubby. For my second pregnancy I made my then 16 month old son wear a onsie that said "Big Brother January 2003" and when my hubby came home from work my son handed him the positive test (wrapped in a plastic bag).

I do not have a face to see,
Or put inside a frame.
I do not have soft cheeks to kiss,
I don't yet have a name.
You can't yet hold my tiny hands,
'Nor whisper in my ear.
It's still too soon to sing a song,
Or cuddle me so near.
But all will change come September,
That’s when they say I'm due.
I'm your new grandchild;
I can't wait till I meet you.
All I ask between now and then
Is your patience while I grow.
I promise I'll be worth the wait,
Because of all the love we'll know.
So enjoy this lovely evening
A wish to you from me.
I cannot wait to be a part
Of this wonderful family

Congrats to you!

Our family has a tradition of creatively telling hubby & kids about a new baby and every baby has been different. Now our children love hearing the story about when I shared the news about each of them because it was unique from any other child. Here is what we did...

Baby 1 - wrapped a baby blanket in a box and gave it to hubby as a gift with a note.

Baby 2 - brought child 1 in to greet dad in the morning with an "I'm a big sister" shirt. We took her picture and emailed it to everyone to make the announcement.

Baby 3 - "Baby" food dinner (Baby back ribs, baby carrots, baby bun rolls, etc. I didn't say anything at first, but Dad figured it out.)

Baby 4 - Custom made matching family t-shirts (we designed a family crest beforehand.) I surprised everyone with their t-shirt, and then brought out a little tiny one that the baby can wear home from the hospital.

Good luck,
S.

Congrats on the pending arrival. When my husband and I first found out we were pregnant was on our wedding day so I kept it a secret from all the family until the dinner after the wedding. I took out the pregnancy test when my mom and my husbands mom was in the kitchen and asked them "do you know what it means when two lines show up on this thing" lol, they literally droped everything they were doing both looked at the test and freaked. It was so funny and the excitement they showed made me feel 1,000 times more comfortable and excited also.

When I found out I was pregnant with our second, I bought my first son an "I'm the big brother" t-shirt and had him wearing it when Daddy got home. He thought that was pretty cool. It's not too terribly creative, but it was still special.

I have never done anything creative to tell hubby we are expecting. I can never wait that long. But I have a few friends who did some cute things. One of them typed up a new label and put it on the spaghetti sauce jar...said something like "Kirsten and Philip are PREGO!" and it had the due date as an expiration date or something like that. She was making dinner and asked him to go grab the sauce for her. It was really cute. Another friend just went and put a hamburger bun in the oven and asked her husband to go check it. He said "what's this?" and she said "we have a bun in the oven!". My most recent friend to become pregnant has a 3 year old daughter. They spent the day making a shirt for her to wear that said "I'm going to be a big sister". She was wearing it when the father got home. She said it took him like an hour to notice what it said but that he was so excited! I like that idea too!

Good luck and CONGRATS!

Dear S.:
Get some Pillsbury rolls and bake them in the oven when he's home. Ask him to check on them and ask how many buns you have in the oven. Add one to his count and correct him. Wait a few seconds until he gets it...

Congratulations!!

I suggest giving him a baby bib that says "I love my daddy". Or you could serve a dinner that has baby carrot, baby corn, etc. and see if he gets the hint. Good luck.

With my son I was going to deliver flowers to my husband on the job site, but couldn't wait. The night before I got our daughter to give him a card that I had picked up when we started trying. On the inside I wrote Oops we did it again. My sister bought a picture frame and some baby scrap booking items glued them in the frame and had printed out a pic of a stork saying grandchild #3 arriving in June 2006. She gave it to our mom as her bday present since she found out the week before. It took our mom a few minutes to catch on she thought that was what came with the frame. haha With Christmas coming up you could wrap up bibs that say I love my grandma,aunt, uncle etc and have them open them up all at once. Its fun to see who catches on first. Congrats and good luck!!!!

i think you should get a mardi gras baby and hide it in a dessert or in the bottom of a champagne glass, and make him think it's chapagne but get sparkling cider instead, wasily found at whole foods (or any other good grocery this time of year). he should get it. when he finds it just say, you know we've got a life-size one on the way, you know. and give him a wink.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!

That is exciting news. We are trying to concieve as well. I already thought of How I was going to tell my mom. Maybe you could do this to your husband. I was going to have a get together at my home. All our close friends and family. Make a nice dinner. And Say I have a present for you. Have it nicely wrapped and everything. It will be a silver baby rattle engraved with the date concieved and it would read "Congratulations we are having a baby" I would also have someone video recording it. So we can capture the expressions on ppls faces.

You could alter this idea in many ways. Like instead of a rattle you could use something else.Like a baby blanket, a positive pregnancy stick test thingy, well just get creative. But be sure to catch it on video so you can enjoy his reaction for years to come.

Good luck hope it goes well. Oh and dont forget to write back and tell us how it went.

Well.....you could arrange for someone to take the two kids you have now for the night, then when your husband comes home from work, have a high chair with a big teddy bear in it be there by the door with an envelope that says 'to daddy'. Then when he gets curious and opens it, have it read something like 'I can't wait to meet you in another 8 months, daddy!' or something like that. :-)

Hi, I thought of this the other day while shopping at Toys R US. A lot of stores now have the reserved parking for expectant moms. Maybe you could take him shopping and pull up into one of those spots. The signs are clearly marked, like handicapped parking spaces, and clearley read "Reserved for Expectant Moms". I know these are prevalant at Toys R US, and have seen them at a few other stores. Hopefully he will notice where you park! Good luck!

Have flowers blue pink and yellow delivered to your house on a Sat. when you know he'll be home. Ask the florist to tie a pair of baby booties on them. Have your camera or video ready when you ask him to open the door!! make sure to include a greeting stating "yep we are pregnant again!

First of all, congratulations! That is so exciting!

When I found out I was pregnant with my second, I had the positive test sealed in plastic then put into a box. I went and bought bibs, pacifiers, and one-sies. I got a nice card talking about how he is a great husband and children love him. I signed it "You loving wife, daughter, and new baby!" I put it all in a blue-and-white bag with his name on it and left it where I knew he would find it. (He's so curious he could never walk past it without opening it!) His first reaction was "why the heck are you buying me this?" When he read the card, he dropped everything and gave me the biggest hug ever. It was great!
