I've heard it takes up to one year for the depo shot to get out of your system. But I assume this means that it's possible to get pregnant sooner. I think I would start trying as soon as the doctor gives you the o.k. and don't get discouraged if it takes a bit! I just read the other response about waiting nine months, so you might consider consulting a doc for sure on that one! Good luck!

I don't know anything about the depo shot, but I just wanted to suggest that you go ahead and make an appt. with your ob/gyn for a preconception appt. They will just run some tests, pap smear, etc to make sure everything is good to get pregnant. I did this and it really helped. Also, start taking prenantal pills. Good luck!

Like the other mother said, it does say that after taking the depo it could take up to a yr to become fertile again..sometimes longer. I had my first and last shot in october and still havent had a period...not that I'm not enjoying that but I don't feel right not having my body run its natural chorus. All we can we say is to keep trying and try not to make getting pregnant a stressful job...infact don't stress over buying a pregnancy test EVERY month....try every 2 months that way ur not dribing urself crazy every month wondering. It may help to give ur doctor a call and let her know u are planning another child and ask how long it could take to concieve.

Hi S.,
After you stopped taking the depo shot your doctor should have advised you to wait a minimum of 9 months before trying to have a child. The reason for that is so that the hormones, from the shot, can fully get out of the system. If I were you, I would talk to my doctor, or wait the 9 to 12 months before trying to have another child. It's all up to you, but you may want to talk to your doctor.

It took me nearly 9 months to get back to a regular cycle after being on the depo shot for 4 yrs. Once you are off the shot (have missed your shot) you can get pregnant. So now that you have gotten your period I would think the time has come.
