Food Allergy Support Groups?

I do not know any support groups but I wanted you to also check your child's tolerance for gluten, my daughter who is now 12 yrs old developed the egg, dairy and ,gluten allergy after her mmr vaccinations at 14 mnths old.She started with huge hives(as big as half eggs) and has 3 pneumonia's in 1 year and had severe asthma) Luckily she has grown out of her egg allergy but the dairy and gluten( and a lot of other artificial colouring,msg and so on)
she did not have nut allergy, but was sensitive to soy as well. I basicly get all my foods at the health food store, There are books that I use a lot and The Gluten free Gourmet and they have a list of stuff that you can substitute eggs and dairy with. There is an eggreplacer for baking on the market from the brand EnerG which works great in all baking and stuff like pancakes,waffles andso on children's favorite foods. I hope you will check on the gluten it is a big problem and easily overseen by tons of doctors. Good luck and you can always contact me through mamasource,

and they've been helpful. They have other links you can use too.

Hi,
One of my triplets was born with a life threating allergy to milk protein. After a months in the NICU after birth and several visits to the ER he had grown into a healthy 5 year old boy whose allergy has no longer become life threating. I wrote my own receipe book that contained receipes that were milk and soy free. I found recipes in cookbooks and on the internet and I would use alternative ingredients. Some tasted great and others did not. I made everything from homemade donughts and lollypops to pizza and breads. Stores like Whole Foods was really helpful and if I went to a resturant I would ask to place my order with the manager to be sure there was no misunderstanding or mixups. If you would like any receipe suggestions let me know what it is you are lookng for. My son was also allergic to nuts as well and he is no longer. When my son was 3 years old he was put in the hospital for a soy milk challenge where they give him milk to drink and watch happens in a conrolled enviornment. A year later he had a milk challenge and a year after that a peanut challenge. it is a safe way to see if your child has "outgrown" the allergy.

I have also been looking for a group and have not been successful. I am a member of FAAN (Food Allergy & Anaphylactic Network) and the closest they list is Sacramento. Another resource I use is Terrific Kids with Food Allergies an on-line support sight. I grew up in Lafayette and went to highschool in Concord (Ygnacio). I now live in Boulder Creek (Santa Cruz Mountains). My son is 2.5 and has multiple severe allergies and is at risk for anaphylaxis. He was diagnosed about 1.5 years ago. Not sure how long you've been dealing with it, but it does get easier. The first year was VERY difficult for me and I still have my ups & downs. T.

Have you ever looked into The Feingold Group? They have a website. This diet changed my whole families life. My daughter had lots of allergies. This is a nation wide group. They might have a support group near you. GOOD LUCK
