If the rash looks like its gonna bleed cause the skin is sooo irrated, talk to doctor. They can prescribe this cream that looks like frosting but really works well. Better than my favorites like the over the counter ones-Aveeno diaper cream and boudoux butt paste. I found destine to be weak on the really bad rashes.

When my kids had a diaper rash there was a simple treatment that my sister told me about that miraculously worked. Guess what it was...bathe the baby with Dove bar soap. I always saw an improvement within 1 day and usually the rash was gone within 3 days tops. The best ointment/cream is Balmex. The combination of these two things worked miracles for my babies.

If you happen to be breastfeeding... you could try putting a little bit of breast milk on it, then let him run around naked (maybe in the kitchen or other room with hard floors) until it dries. My cousin swears by the breast milk trick (makes sense to me... everyone says to use it on your nipples when they have sores or chafing... lol) The air is the best thing to help promote healing... when everything is completely dry, boreadux (sp?) butt paste works wonders.

Baking soda bath and leave his diaper off for at least an hour a few times a day. It will clear right up.

Weleda Calendula Diaper Care Cream is the BEST! In fact, I just took some to my sister yesterday, for her 16 month old son. He also had bad diarrhea and a yucky rash. She called me today and told me the rash is almost gone! It's all natural and works incredibly. It's a bit pricey at $12.00 a tube, but it lasts a while and is so worth it!!

I love desitin, it's always worked well for us. Also, aveeno makes a diaper rash oatmeal bath I used to use when my daughter got really bad rashes. And letting them run around diaper free as much as possible helps.

Triple Paste worked wonders for my kids, as did Penaten (I think it's only available online [Amazon] - it's from Germany and it's a miracle cream!)

Bathe baby with Dove Soap and use a blowdryer on the lightest setting after each diaper change to ensure he is dry (this made a huge difference for my babies)- I had luck with ButtPaste and sometimes I would apply either Jojoba oil (just a couple drops) or even creamy vaseline. My pediatrician says to use Milk of Magnesia to calm down the redness and irritation-And of course air out babys bottom when you can and actually I used Huggies Pure and Natural diapers as they are very hypoallergenic and no extra dyes/perfumes which can irritate and sometimes I would get the diapers in one size up so its not pressed up against baby's skin when diapers is soiled (which I find just makes everything worse!) And that will allow for a little extra "air movement" just check frequently. It will get better- I know there are lots of great suggestions! good Luck!

I use Destin and it is great but I have also heard Butt Paste works very well. Other than that I just know to keep that area as dry as possible.

Slap a lot of Desitin on his little tushy and it will go away quickly! Desitin is the best.

I've found the following works:

Mild rash: Boudreaux's Butt Paste (awesome stuff if the rash is just beginning)

For the rash that just won't go away, I most successfully use a combination of corn starch and Vaseline. The corn starch (applied very liberally) keeps the diaper area dry and the Vaseline applied to dry skin puts a nice protective layer over the area, keeps out moisture and makes sure nothing sticks to the area.

I've tried many many things. This has worked wonders. I tried it in desperation a few months ago when faced with a similar situation and nothing was working. I don't like any of the other creams. Also, lots and lots of time without a diaper. I know the diarrhea is messy but if you can give him some 'air time' this will really help the healing.

You might also try applying Maalox to his bottom with a cotton ball. Let it dry fully before diapering (after cleaning him with warm water, not a wipe of course).

The acids in the pee/poop are neutralized by the Maalox so that it doesn't cause more damage. Rather than just trying to create a barrier, you can create one that neutralizes the damaging substances that are GOING to come in contact with his little bottom.

Burt's Bees diaper rash cream worked the best for us!

If the aquaphor and a good zinc cream doesn't work, you might want to consider Resinol. Both of my kids had issues as infants. My son's was so bad that he was bleeding. (He is 3 months.) We had an antibiotic ointment and an antifungal/steroidal cream prescribed by the doc--and they didn't kick it. My BIL recommended Resinol, as they used it with all 4 of their kids. You have to ask the pharmacy to order it, but it does not require a prescription. You can also order it online, like at Amazon. It is a little pricey, but if you start using it before you get to the bleeding phase, I think you won't have to use a lot and it will keep things at bay. When we finally got it, it started to heal my son's tush within a few hours. It was a miracle to us. :-) You definitely want to follow all of the recommendations you mentioned above about changing frequently, only water on wipes, etc. And of course if you can manage some diaper free time, that is good too. But this ointment is a miracle worker. It contains: petrolatum (which is also the main ingredient in aquaphor), resourcinol (a topical analgesic), calamine, zinc oxide, lanolin and corn starch. I hope it doesn't get out of hand for your little guy's sake. It's so not fun!

Aquafor, Beudreaux's Butt Paste or Triple Paste. My child had one of the worst rashes ever and we used Triple Paste and the next day it was clearing up. I buy it at Target. Aquafor is always good to have on hand even as they get older. If it's a problem with the skin, Aquarfor will fix it! I even use it on my children's lips on the winter when they won't stop licking them. Also, the hospital recommended to let their bottoms air dry when you can. Lay them in the bassinette during the day or nap time without a diaper and it really, really helps. Their bottoms get so moist that they need to dry sometimes. of course you have to put a pad underneath for when they potty.

triple paste is absolutely the best. I always used it for bad diaper rashes and it cleared it up much better and quicker than desitin or A&D which were jsut good for maintenance..

I have 3 kids (5 years and under) and I know that the best thing to do is keep the are clean (wash with water and baby soap, not wipes since wiping hurts) and dry. As soon as he pees, change to a dry diaper. Check the diaper every few minutes. If he poops, chance it immediately, wash the area with water. Diaper rash ointments provide a barrier so if he poops, the poop doesn't touch the skin. So, it's a good idea to put some on, in case you miss a diaper change. Any cream works okay. There is not specific treatments that heals it, only time and prompt diaper changes. It will get better in a few days, if you're good about changing them diapers often. Good luck :-)

Oh, sorry to hear that. I know it's pretty painful for the little ones to have to deal with diaper rash. This is what I do with my 4 kids. When I notice a little diaper rash I start to treat it. I wash them with mild soap(Dove) and rinse with nice warm water, air dry it a little bit(for how long you can last before he/she decides to use the bathroom again), add diaper rash ointment, and put the diaper loosely. But I do not use wipes until the diaper rash has gone away. Just soap and water.

With my 4 kids...it usually goes away 2-4 days..depends how severe it is.

Every child responds differently. My SIL swore by boudreax's but it was ineffective for us. Desitin and triple paste were our best options. Frequent diaper changes (obviously) are also important. If the rash starts causing the skin to break down make sure your wipes are alcohol free. If it gets even worse where bleeding occurs call your ped and make sure there isn't a fungus involved. I have always hated bourduex butt paste. It's too creamy. I have always used Original desitin or aquaphor with better luck. Never tried the breastmilk trick, but I'm curious...
But yes, letting him be nakey for a while should help and then put some aquaphor on it.

Try using Butt Paste, it works amazingly well.

Triple Paste has cleared up even the worst diaper rashes on my kids, including my second child that has super sensitive skin.
