we r expecting our second son in june and we have enrolled in cord blood banking and made a registry for it. i wont b having a shower for this one and theres hardly anything we need to get since we r already stocked for a boy. my question is: how can i suggest the cord blood registry to friends/fam w/o it seeming like im asking for a gift? i kno some ppl will want to give the baby a gift and the cord bloood banking is what we want/need the most.
I was going to say the same thing as Jill F. I would let your close friends and family know this is what you''re doing and that you would like them to spread this around with anyone who asks....
Donna, I cannot speak for Brownlee's situation, but for many people, banking cord blood is like insurance--you hope you never need to use the banked stem cells, but it's there if you do.

I would only mention it if I were asked, and folks will ask (and spread the word). I would not put it in any announcement/invitation/etc.
A lot of people will usually ask if you NEED anything for the second (or more) babies. This would be the time to say something about the "bank." You could say, "The only concern we have is whether or not we'll be able to afford the total cost of cord blood banking." IF they offer to help, then give them the information. If it is complicated for them to donate directly, then set up a separate account at the bank that you could later use as the child's savings account. Otherwise, I would openly talk about wanting to do this for your baby with lots of family and close friends making sure they understand how important it is to you.

I wish I had known this when I was pregnant. You can donate your baby's cord blood to a bank at no cost to you. If your child ever needs cord blood, it will be available to him since you donated his for use by other children.
