Hey everybody, ok, i need your help once again. Since we figured out the whole projectile vomiting due to acid reflux how do i get this child to stop crying ALL the time? I have tried everything for colicky babies. From alimentum to gripe water and nothing works. I just want some sleep in my own bed with my husband. Any advice, please help!

So What Happened?

Thank you to everyone's responses. I think the prevacid she was on just needed some more time to work. My 9-week old is doing excellent now and even going ten hours through the night. (Hurray)! Thanks again everyone!

My son had the same problem. I found that if I put him in his vibrating bouncer, he would usually stop crying and sleep for a while. It was usually the only way I got any sleep at night. I don't know if you have one of those or not, but if you do, try it. Also, baby Phasym and the other brands like it helped me as well.

I did not have this issue with my daughter but my newborn neice had many of these issues. They first diagnosed her with acid reflux but the uncontrolable crying still continued and a fair amount of spit up/vomit. They tried everything, including gripe water & alimentum. She ended up having to switch to a soy formula because Madison could not take the milk based fomulas.. It has made a world of difference. It might be the formula. If you decide to switch, keep in mind that results might take a day or so for the colic due to the milk based formula to get out of the body.

Hi C.,

At 2 weeks old, my baby girl was diagnoised with severe colic and she was put on Zantac. She still continued to projectile vomit and cry endlessly throughout the night. We have the car seat that fits into our stroller and we would put our baby in the carseat and push her around the living room over and over again. She especially liked the bumps and eventually she would calm down and go to sleep. Then we would just leave her in her carseat sitting at an incline. She wouldn't sleep flat on her back for the first 4 months of her life. Either pushing around and around the living room or riding in the car would be the only things that would calm her down.

The good news is that they out grow the colic. My girl outgrew hers by 4 months. Good luck!

i feel for you totally. it seemed like from the moment we got home from the hospital my daughter cried and cried until she was about 4 months old. day, night. it didnt matter. we tried several things including lactose free formula and playtex vent-air bottles. it seemed to make a difference. around 4 months she just sort of settled into herself and was more comfortable. also, if you know your baby is comfortable, fed, diaper is changed and youve done all you can, it is ok to let her cry for a little while if no one in the house minds. if your daughter is still very young, maybe only time will fix your problem. just know that this wont last forever.

Hello C.! My name is M. and I feel for you hun. My first daughter Marilynn went through this as well. She was diagnosed at 10 days old with severe reflux and projectile vomiting. Also, the docs wondered if she had a milk sensitivity. So, this is what we did.

First of all, we religiously gave her simethicone drops before every feeding and at bedtime or naptime. That helped with the belly aches and excruciating pain. And you can buy this at Wal-mart...and you can get the equate version which is cheaper than the name brand. I think it's about 4 dollars. Best money I ever spent!

Secondly, we switched her formula from a milk based to a soy. However, none of my kids can tolerate Similac, so we tried Enfamil Lipil. It worked really great! We would feed her an ounce and burp her immediately. If she wanted more milk, then we gave her another ounce and burped her again. This is a lengthy process, but well worth it. That way her tummy wasn't overfull causing painful stomach cramps. And the milk stayed in her stomach.

Regardless if she was in pain or not, we gave her the Simethicone drops before each initial feeding. So, if you give your child a feeding of say 4 ounces, give your child one dose of the drops before the first ounce. These drops will help her/him to remove the air from the tummy and also aid in digestion of the formula.

Also, you need to tilt the head of the crib with wooden slats so that the stomach juices stay in the stomach and not in the throat which is very painful. And last of all, after the baby has eaten it's last ounce hold the baby upright for 30 minutes. This gives the formula time to leave the stomach and enter into the intestines...so the chance of reflux decreases. And it will also reassure that the baby is asleep and not in pain.

All of this information was given to us by our pediatrician and worked rather well. The good news is, this won't last forever hun. Marilynn is now 5 years old and is doing great.

Good Luck to you all!

M.

I agree with the previous comment about the Happiest Baby on the Block. My son had SEVERE reflux, he was even prescribed to Zantac by a month old. And the happiest baby techniques work. They worked for me! Otherwise, your child will outgrow it soon. It will just take time, patience and love!

Best of luck. :)

How old is your baby?? My son was not colicky, but when he got gassy, I used the techniques in the book called "the happiest baby on the block" -- it worked! The book is based on the principle that babies are born too early and that we should create for them a fourth trimester. It also says that colick is not caused by a single thing, but by a combination of things. The book says that there are 5 S's -- they are shushing, swinging, sucking, swaddling and...I can't remember the last one. I highly reccomend this book. Good Luck!

Have you tried the dryer? Seriously, when my son was a baby the dryer was my friend, lol. I would put him in one of those boucy seats and sit the seat on top of the running dryer. The dryer and a car ride were the only ways he would ever sleep. Good luck :)
