Has anyone had any experience with taking your kids to the chiropractor to help them sleep better? I have a 23 month old that has been very restless and waking a lot at night. Do you think this would help? Any recommendations of a chiropractor that specializes in children and what could I expect them to do on our first visit?

What can I do next?

Dr. John at Wildwood Chiropractic in Mahtomedi/WhiteBear Lake, MN is good. I haven't taken my kids, but I see plenty of them when Im there.

Where are you located? Dr. Michael Deckert in Eagan handles a lot of kids. I got his name from this website. I don't know if it would help sleep issues, but we seem to be having a healthier winter (at least so far, knock on wood) since I started taking my kids to see him. At the first visit he would ask you a lot of questions, probably have you fill out a health form, do an examination and then do some adjustments. They are surprisingly simple and gentle with children. Another good book on sleep is Mary Sheedy Kurcinka's book, "Sleepless in America." Good luck.

Sara,
I've been taking my son to our neighbor who is a chiropractor since he was born. She also does some muscle testing and other alternative therapies. I think on our first visit she talked with me about what I felt was happening with our son and then did some testing on him (included me holding him and the practitioner pushing on my arm) and then did some tiny adjustments. He's 27 mos now and at his last adjustment, she wiggled his hips as he was standing up (it made him giggle) and pulled on his leg a bit. She's very gentle and we've had good success seeing her. She's at Acorn Chiropractic. You can get her website and info by doing a google search. Her name is Dr. Ginger Dunivan. Good luck!!

My kids (5 and 10 months) and I see Dr. Fred Clary at Advanced Injury and rehab. in Roseville right off Lexington and 36. He's an amazing chiropractor and he's got a gift for caring for children. Call and ask them any questions you might have ###-###-####.
I can't say enough good things about Dr. Clary and how much help he's been with my 5 year old. Good luck. ~N.

My 13 month old son sees Heather Karls at Langford Chiropractic (Highland Park neighborhood in St. Paul). She is amazing. He has been going there for about 5 months now. He had issues w/his hips, but not sleep problems.

My friend's daughter was extremely colicky and did not sleep and she was a different child after chiropractic care. It is definitely worth a shot.

Hi Sara,

My daughter has been diagnosed with Restless Leg Syndrome that makes it hard for her to get and stay asleep. We have been working on this with doctors for over a year and nothing seems to help.

I was not in favor of going to a Chiropractor, but my husband finally convinced me.

We just started seeing Dr. Lisa at Valley Chiropractic in Woodbury. She is great. She spend a lot of time with me expaining what she would be doing to our 5 year old and why - putting my mind at ease. I don't know yet if it making a huge impact, but she does seem to be better, and Lauren likes her and doesn't mind the adjustments with the actuator.

I have taken my kids to a chiropractor and it is good for them. But I would also suggest getting a book on sleep. We use Good Night, Sleep Tight by Kim West. She is known as the sleep lady and has been featured on Dr. Phil, Oprah, etc. It might just be something simple as to why she is waking a lot. The book is broken up into sections by age, medical conditions, and routine busters. I think I would check out the book before you start paying copays. The chiropractor can be spendy, they generally want you to commit to around 40 visits. Hope this helped.

I don't have experience with chiro and sleep issues, but it certainly worth checking the child's spine because sublaxations can result in all sorts of problems. I took my DS to Dr. Boschee at Valley West Chiropractic in Bloomington. He solved his 7 month battle with ear infections. I started going to a chiro at 16 and it cured what my ped had diagnosed as an ulcer (it was actually just a nerve to my stomach irritated but a sublaxation) and my sister's exercise induced asthma was solved once a sublaxation in her neck was fixed.
