My daughter was the same month of her birth.

My oldest son? He is at the end of the month, so it's either the week of his birthday or the week following his birthday.

My youngest son? Month of his birthday.

Mine is usually within a week after her birthday.

Well checkup? I guess we outgrew those around here. :/

They go for an annual physical, usually in the summer sometime, and if possible, close enough to the end of the summer that I can have the doc go ahead and fill out their sports physical packet as well. They both have summer birthdays (one in June, one in July). I tend to have them go as late in July as I can. But until they were involved in sports, they sort of were skipped from ages 10/11 - they started sports. Once they got their 2nd Varicella (chicken pox) vaccines, then they were good unless they were sick. One kiddo is almost never sick (really, I bet she's been prescribed antibiotics 3 times in her entire life, and once was when she broke a tooth as a preventative for infection in the tooth until she could get in to the dentist to have it repaired). The other seems to be in the office for routine bumps and injury or infection (sports related, usually) enough that either the dr. prompts a physical or we just skip it, b/c they know if something is going on with him and he is beyond needing shots based on age.

I used to stress if it was too far past their birthdays. Dumb. I'm not thinking in December of scheduling for a March birthday appointment! So over the years, it gets later and later because our doctor's office schedules so far out if it's only a well visit, and they won't schedule before 366 days from the last appointment for insurance reasons. So we are now 2-3 months past their birthday. Doesn't matter.

I started my oldest going within the week of her birthday. But then since a whole calendar year has to pass til insurance will cover the next one, the date they would schedule us just kept moving week by week each year til now at age 7 she is eligible about 2 whole months AFTER her birthday :)

Whenever I was able to fit it into our schedule

many insurances require it to be at least 365 days after the last physical.. so each year the apt gets later and later.. my December bday kid was up to February for her annual exam.

but I called and our insurance just says .. once per calendar year..

so I can do it whenever it fits in.. maybe on the half day at school..

It depends on immunizations, our schedule, and doctor availability. Some immunizations that won't give until after the birthday. Others they will give with a timeframe. I do try to set it up as close to the birthday as possible. Otherwise I'm afraid I will forget!

Same month or in that quarter but it depends on their age. If it's an infant I don't miss an appointment at all. If it's a school age kiddo then it's not so urgent they get there and have that exam.

As long as you get them done in that quarter I think it's good.

I schedule it for soon after their birthday party. I don't want them to be uncomfortable if they had to have shots.

Our insurance covers well checkups once a year, so even though I try to schedule it right around their birthday it doesn't always happen.
Example, last year kiddo had checkup on 6/10, about a week after her birthday. This year per insurance I can't schedule it until AFTER the one year mark of 6/10, but we are out of town and so it happens 6/25...and then it carries over to the following year...etc.

Kiddo's birthday is in Sept, but I do his well check in November, after the school nurse sends home the list of required vaccinations--- our insurance pays for them at the well-check only, otherwise, we have a larger payment. If he had any real health concerns, we'd do it closer to his birth date, but he's healthy and so we try to be strategic about how we use our insurance.

For the first 5 years we were within her birthday week. Now that she is 8 and schedules change, etc. we are about 6 months out.

I try to keep it within a few weeks. As long as it's been only once that year she's fine.

Usually several months later, all three of mine fall during holidays/cold and flu season... I'm not taking three healthy kids into a sick bed, so we usually do them at the end of the summer right before school starts.

We're in the same boat with the insurance as several others. The appointment must be at least one year after the most recent physical. Even though their birthdays are in March and July, they both had their most recent physical in August ... oops! Guess next years physicals will be in August or September.

My son hates going in his birthday month, which is December. We go in April, as it's usually when he has spring break.
