Bpa????

I would quit using the bottles that have the BPA. It is better to be safe than sorry. I used the Dr. Brown's bottles thinking they were better. We even heated up her formula in the microwave in her bottle (the worst thing to do). I am very upset with the whole thing...we purchased the more expensive bottles thinking they were better and then we find this out.

We do have a little girl and she is in therapy for delayed speech, motor ticks, physical therapy and occupational therapy for sensory issues. We are not sure what is wrong with her...I often wonder if the bottles were the reason.

Now all Avent and Dr. Brown are BPA free. I am not sure about the ones you bought 16 months ago. I would just buy new ones to be safe. Now that being said we all used BPA bottles two years ago, but were told not to wash them in the dishwasher or boil them. Apparently the heat causes the BPA to leak from the bottles. As long as you hand wash them it was suppose to be fine for the babies. BPA is in almost everything (clear plastic). Even our bottled water. They say to stay away from 3,5,7 you can find the number on the bottom of every plastic bottle. My ozarka water I am drinking right now is a 1 so I guess pretty safe. They had an artcle about BPA free bottles in Parents Magazine this month on page 30.

Although, I dont understand it either, I always prefer to err on the side of caution. I was fortunate that our favorite bottles are BPA free. So, if you plan to switch bottles, I know that the playtex bottles with the liners are acceptable. I use the natural latch bottles, mostly because I was switching from Avent bottles, and the nipples seemed the most similar. Just trust your gut, and if you have any doubt, just get the new bottles!! The peace of mind is worth more than the bottles ever will be! ~A.~

Just this week I switched over to BPA free. I periodically pump and use bottles for my husband to feed our little boy. I was using the Playtex Ventaire bottles and really liked them, but the BPA was starting to scare me. I wanted to be really careful so I got the glass bottles - Dr. Brown's glas bottles. They really just feel better than plastic. I feel like I'm doing the right thing now with the glass bottles. I even got some cheaper Evenflo glass bottles (they are on clearance right now at Babies R Us for 3 for $3.99) to pump into and store. It just seems right to use the glass and now I'm BPA free so no worries. Good luck!

I have two children - both were breast fed, however I did pump and use bottles with my first quite frequently. I used the Avent bottles with the BPA in them because at the time I had no clue! I agree with erring on the side of caution here - and I just exchanged all of my old Avent bottles and bought the Born Free brand bottles. They are a bit more costly, however I have peace of mind knowing that they are BPA free. I think it is worth it. Babies R Us will exchange them for you. so at least you have some recourse. Don't feel bad about not knowing aboutt he BPA thing - it is a learning experience for us all and Mamasource is a great forum for helping us along the way! Good luck!
