Hi moms! Does anyone know how soon after conception a blood test can confirm a pregnancy? I know a home pregnancy test can be taken after a missed period, but I'm just curious when a blood test can be taken. Thank you!

With my first pregnancy I was having massive cramping. I did not know I was pregnant. They were looking at my bowels to see if something was wrong and did an internal ultrasound. Nothing in my uterus that could be seen. They took blood and 2 days later I found out I was pregnant. The doctor said I was no more than a week pregnant if that :)

Blood tests in my situation proved way faster :)

This is just my opinion... but wait for the home test. So many pregnancies end before we know it, and just leads to heartbreak. I have been on both sides, wanting to know as soon as it happens, finding out as soon as I could, only to have it end 2 days later, when I have already named the baby! We tried for 4 years to get our 1st, then on our second we miscarried 2 days after finding out we were pregnant, and then after 3 years, had success, and then another quick success. It is always so disappointing to start your period when you are desperately trying to get pregnant, but it is worse when you find out that there is a pregnancy, only to have it end when you wouldn't have known anyway.
It's so hard to wait, but I think worth it in the end!

Hi Prisilla,

Blood test is faster and more acurate. Go see your OBGYN and get one done ASAP. Good luck!

I would go take the blood test!
I am the mom of two. Both pregnancies I took urine tests that came out negative (the day my period was to start), both times I really was pregnant. The first time I had a negative stick test on Fri and on Sunday and took a blood test Monday that was positive. The second I took a stick test on sunday that was negative and the blood test on monday that was positive.
If you are pregnant the levels of the pregnancy hormone show up in your blood hours after conception and double everyday.
If your just itching to know for sure, and know now, go take the blood test!

Home pregnancy tests can be taken 7 or so days after conception. Look for anything labeled "early." You don't have to wait for a late period. But if you take it too soon and get a negative you may still be pregnant. I just knew I was pregnant and took a test (negative), waited 1 day, took another test (positive). Good luck with whatever result you are hoping for.

Hello, I know that they have home prego tests that you can buy that can detect sooner than a missed period and I believe that the blood test can determine once you actually conceive which can be a couple of days to a week. That's when the hormones start developing in the blood. Most doctors will tell you to wait before you come in they usually don't want to test within just days. Good Luck and God Bless you and your family.

I don't know if this will help you, but I took a home pregnancy test and it was positive. I took it 4 more times b/c I was so shocked (& excited). I called my doc at Kaiser and she had me go to the lab and take a pregnancy test. I was expecting a blood test. It was the same pee on a stick tests you do at home!
