Best Potty Training Seat?

I totally agree 100% with the Fisher Price Froggy Potty. I do home daycare and generally hate these things. They are messy to clean and empty and I dislike them. But this one is fantastic as far as stand alone seats go!

I move kids to the big toilet ASAP, but this one makes kids sit sort of wide (they all want to "watch"), has the high front for boys...its great. And inexpensive...$10-$12 at Target or Walmart when I got mine!

the cars seat is comfy, has a good splash guard and then no cleaning b/c it's on your toliet- just need a good stool.

I highly recommend the Baby Bjorn Toilet Trainer. We only used her little stand alone potty for a very, very short time - maybe a couple weeks. I originally bought my daughter a Munchkin Deluxe Potty Seat and it was terrible. There was no way to completely clean it. Urine got all inbetween the different parts and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't get it all out. I had to toss it after only 2 months of use because it started smelling so bad - you could smell it as soon as you walked into the bathroom. My daughter's been using the Baby Bjorn Toilet Trainer since shortly before she turned 3. She's 5 now and she still uses it. It is all one piece and very easy to clean.

We got the stand alone potty seat by safety first ($10 at walmart) we didn't want one that attached to our toliet because my son drinks sooooo much that his urine is clear and there would be no way of knowing if he peed if he went in the big potty.

Another perk is there's no splash guard for him to get caught on (I've heard some sad stories) and the front is high enough that my guy hasn't had any problems with pee going anywhere but in the pot, I don't think accidents are possible!

As far as if you need a stand alone potty or a seat for the toilet, how do you want to train him? My grandson was trained on a seat on the toilet as mom didn't want to have to "train him twice." I prefer the stand alone potty to get the basics down and where he can plant his feet firmly on the ground. It's also easier for him to get on and off all by himself.

I think it's better to start with a potty seat. We used the baby Bjorn and it worked really well for me son. It was easy transitioning to the full size toilet. I did buy the seat that goes on the toilet. Maybe I didn't buy a good one because it would shift and that freaked my son out. We didn't have to "train twice". He was fine going on the big potty right after he got trained and I got rid of the special seat.

I just noticed that your child is not even 1...is that correct? I know this wasn't your question but when were you hoping to train him? Anytime before 2 is almost impossible.

We used a flip and flush (flipnflush.com) on our upstairs toilet. If we had had a bathroom down stairs, we would have used it there too. If goes on the toilet, between the seat and lid. When you don't need it it goes up w/the lid, so it's out of the way, and easy to use. We did use a potty down stairs since we didn't have a bathroom down there. I didn't want to have to have my little ones try to hold it ti make it upstairs (in the beginning.) We really only used it until they got the hang of it, then upstairs we went! So much nicer to not have to empty a potty!

I'm all for trying to make the experience as close to what reality will be as possible. Put them on the "big potty" however you can. I think the act of flushing that yucky stuff away is really important in training and it is not the same on a little potty.

Get a good step stool so they don't struggle to climb up, and that they can rest their feet on while doing #2.

While I like the idea of just using the big potty or getting a small seat to go on the big potty, some kids can't get themselves on the big potty by themselves, even with a stool, so you would have to take them to the potty all the time and this may hinder them just going when the feel it. I got a ducky potty that makes noise when the go. My daughter won't sit on it. She loves her $10 pink potty I got at Walmart. It does come apart and you can put the seat on the big potty, but we're not there yet. I've found it easy to clean.

When I potty trained my first son, starting at age 2 (just introducing him to sitting on the potty) I think he used the potty I bought him only a handful of times. He always would choose to just use the big potty and just hold himself up on it, flushing it was the best part for him. All kids are different.

You can take it with you and use at home. We set it up in the living room with a bag and then put it on the big potty when we are getting ready for bed. We take it to the playground! You also don't have to buy the bags they recommend-you totally can , but we just use regular plastic grocery bags and they fit totally fine. Good Luck!
