I used an oil by Elemis for both my pregnancies and don't have stretch marks. It is Japanese camellia oil and comes in an amber bottle. I loved this product! I just noticed that Nordstrom is now carrying the line.

I wish you luck - I rubbed vitamin E, Palmers Cocoa Butter and Mederma on my belly throughout the day - everyday. My mom had horrible stretch marks so I was concerned. Guess what? Nothing stopped them. I didn't get them until 33 weeks preggers thinking I had won. I really hope you are one of the lucky ones that doesn't get them, but I really think it is based on genetics. :(

Sensaria Natural Bodycare's products are so wonderful for all skin types and there are no petroleum, mineral oil, or waxes (they are vegan!) in them so the moisturizer will actually soak into your skin and keep it hydrated which will help to prevent the stretch marks. There are even some great body butters on sale this month, Lotus Melon Blossom, Ginger Lime with Mint, and Lemongrass Cucumber. All of them are with essential oils and plant extracts instead of the synthetic perfumes like the ones you can get elsewhere. The Jojoba Oil and the Jojoba Body Lotion Spray for those that want a non-scented option are perfect for layering as well.

I have been using the products for over eight years and they are safe for the whole family to use, especially for when your newborn comes along. I offer a first time customer discount if you would like to contact me for more information. www.sensaria.com/J.

I suggest anything that has vitamin E in it. I used a regular hand lotion for my first pregnancy and didn't have any stretch marks. Make sure it has vitamin E in it though that's what helps avoid them.

I just had my first baby and I have the kind of skin that will get the stretch marks by gain 10 pounds to fast. When I got pregnant I was so upset I thought my tummy was going to be covered in those red and purple marks. Then I found Curel life's stages pregnancy & motherhood cream. I put it on every morning right after I got out of the shower. I do not have a single new stretch mark on my body. I just wish I had this cream when I was a teen. You can find were it is sold on curel.com I would get two just to make sure you don't run out.

I dont believe the genetic thing!!! My mom had no streach marks with 3 kids and 2 of my aunts did. My grandma had no streach marks either. I unfortunatly ended up with streach marks bc I had gained very little weight until I was 35 weeks. I looked like I had prior to getting pregnant and I was very small. When all the weight just happened I noticed streach marks. With my second I had previous streach marks but no new ones bc I gained weight gradually. I am also 19 so my skin is pretty flexible. Watch your weight and be prepared for it to happen regardless.

50% of woman who use creams still get stretch marks.
50% of woman who use nothing don't get stretch marks.
In other words, wither you use them or not, your odds of getting stretch marks are 50/50. Its the amount of collagen elastin in the cells that makes you resistant or susceptible to them. This is what the studies show, but it never ceases to amaze me how sold people are on stretch mark creams. Heck I'm using some myself just in case. Just don't spend much on a product. The best thing you can do to prevent them is to not gain too much during the pregnancy.

Coconut oil! It helps heal even older scars, and therefore prevents new scarring as well. I use it on my belly and breasts. And even if you were to get stretch marks, the coconut oil will at least completely prevent your skin and nipples from itching. I use it on my face too (at night only), and eat a couple of spoons a day because it contains great minerals for you and you baby. Good Luck!

Save your money. No matter what anyone tells you, there is no cream that can take away stretch marks.

I think a lot of it is genetics.

I lathered myself in vitamin E oil daily and I have no stretchmarks, however, some people get them no matter how much they tried to prevent it.

I swear by almond oil. I used it on my belly and breasts during my two pregnancies, and I have no stretch marks or whatsoever. It's a little messy, but it's so worth it. A little bit goes a long way.

I have bad news for you. Studies now show that stretch marks are genetic. Call your mom up and see how bad hers were or if she got them at all.

It's also related to the amount of weight you gain as well as how old you are. Once you hit a certain age your skin is just not as elastic as it once was. That can cause the stretch marks to be worse. If you gain more weight than needed your stretch marks are once again more likely to be worse.

And finally if you were very thin (like a stick) before you got pregnant you'll more than likely get stretch marks because there's no fat on your belly to stretch, just skin.

Otherwise I have to say that there are lots of great products out there. Everyone swears by Palmers, which I used. I got really bad stretch marks anyway. My mom had them, I'm 30 and I gained 10 more pounds than needed. The creams help keep your skin moisturized and therefore more elastic so it may help increase your chances of not having a lot. But there are people who don't anything and don't get a single one.

Try 100%pure shea butter. Apply it morning and night all over belly area. You need to rub it in your hands until it becomes clear then apply it. You can buy it at the beauty supply in the Carson mall. Or order online from Nubian Heritage: www.nubianheritage.com. I use it also on my face, neck, feet, elbows etc. to keep my skin looking young.

Best Wishes. Pam A.

Unfortunately, stretch marks are genetic. Creams can make them less itchy, but those that buy the expensive creams and have them work, probably had moms who didn't have stretch marks either. The best advice I have heard is to use olive oil.

Unfortunately not. Stretch mark severity depends on what type of skin you have and how quickly it stretched and was able to 'keep up' or not. Everyone has collagen and elastin fibers in their skin. Some have more than others which is why some people seem to get little or no stretch marks and why others get severe ones. The stretch mark is literally a 'tear' in the skin, it is the scar left over from the skin stretching faster than it can accomodate with new growth. Those that have 'stretchier' skin can withstand this faster expansion.
The best thing you can do for yourself is to eat healthy and stay hydrated and of course a good lotion is always nice for keeping your skin healthy and hydrated too. That may help alleviate potential problems in the long run but you can't change your DNA.
I live in a very arid area and I continue to use Lansinoe (breast nipple cream designed for breastfeeding) for my hands to ward off dry skin. You could try that as well as using aloe vera. Aloe is a wonderful healer.

Good luck :)

My mom had dark stretch marks, and I am skinny and pale. So everyone thought I would have stretch marks too. Two babies later, my stomach is stretch mark free. And I did no cream or anything special, so I think you will either get them or you won't, and there's not much you can do about it. You might want something to use if your belly gets itchy, but I wouldn't spend a lot on anything to prevent stretch marks because it won't work.

the doctors will tell you there is no way to completely prevent stretch marks. this is true.
but you can ease the scarring by using the creams that have been suggested! there are also laser treatments for the stretch marks, my sisters friend used it and got fabulous results!

good luck! i wish i had known all this when i had my first child!

Yes! Any thick cream w/cocoa butter should do the trick, but only if you're super consistent, and even then it's still up to genetics... I used Burt's Bees' brand.
