My son is having major meltdowns when he is in the bath or shower. He starts getting very upset as soon as we get him in. It is impossible to clean him, and calm him down. This came out of nowhere. Needing suggestions.

What can I do next?

My son is 15 months old, and he just now started to like his baths. I even sit in the tub with him and his sister, and we have toys etc... I think it is just a phase they need to outgrow. He HATES the shower, but again I feel he will outgrow this too.

I agree definitely a phase, my son went through it as well, sometime between 18-24 months.

It's probably a phase. My oldest loved bath time. One day out of the blue he HATED them...screaming, crying, and trying to get out. It lasted about 3 weeks (we kept to our normal routine and made him take a bath, but bath time was VERY fast.) The 1st two times I actually got in with him, but that didn't help at all. About 3 weeks later it just stopped and he loved bath time again. I've heard many kids go through this phase. Good Luck!

Hi - Yep - I have 26 mo. old boy/girl twins. They always loved baths, but then about a month ago, my son would fight getting in the tub. A few times we bathed him while he would stand in the tub crying, or sometimes we could get him to kneel. Then I just kind of thought that maybe he was just bored, as he'd had the same bath toys for his whole life, and we do baths every single night, for the routine of it, along with cleanliness.

So... Anyway, I bought the KidCo bath storage basket and foam letters/numbers at Meijer. I put the basket across the tub, in between the two kids. It worked like a charm, as the first night it was in there, he was so curious to get in and see what it was. And he loves the letters/numbers. So for now, we haven't had a problem since then. Best $17 I've spent lately.

Good luck.

Hi J.....They make special "crayons" that your kids can color on the tub walls and tub with and have fun. They are also soap. Maybe if he is playing with something like this while you are washing him he will feel more comfortable with the bathtub. Good Luck and Happy Holidays.

Hi J.,
I also have a set of boy/girl twins, who just turned 4 yesterday. My little guy had the same issue with the bath. I put his sister in the tub and let her play. I would get him ready for the tub, but would give him a "stand-up" bath, next to the tub. He thought it funny. Next, I would have him sit on the edge with his feet still on the outside of the tub and wash him. Next time have him sit with his feet in the tub. And that was that. He saw his sister having fun splashing and the next thing we knew in he went. It was weird, he loved taking a bath and out of nowhere he hated it,they do keep you on your toes. Just when you think you have it figured out, they gotcha with something else!! Hope that works. Happy Holidays!
