Anyone Tried the 18In4 Diet?

Okay, I know there's no quick fix to weight loss and the only lasting way to lose weight is through proper diet and consistent exercise. Got it. However, I was just wondering if anyone has actually tried this diet called 18in4 that claims to, well, help you lose 18 pounds in 4 days. And if anyone has actually tried it, how much weight did you end up losing? I have a function to attend soon and if I could drop a few pounds quickly without starving or harming myself, I'd like to try it. I do realize that whatever weight is lost on this diet will probably be gained right back once off the diet - and I don't care. Just trying to be fine again for a minute. Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Okay ladies...I did do the 18in4 Diet - and it really wasn't so bad. I ended up losing 12 pounds, but I did cheat a little on day 2 (I had a small piece of salmon and a half a cup of frozen yogurt - couldn't resist). I can honestly say I feel good, I am motivated to lose more, and I am happy with the results. I also maintained my hour of cardio/half hour of weight training 3 out of the 4 days. Thanks to all of you who responded and were cheering me on! You guys are great!

We've all been there! And I know that if I need to lose a good 5-10lbs in a week or 2 I do atkins, hardcore atkins. Meat and green veggies, that's it! I can lose up to 10lbs in 1 week doing that in addition to 15mins of walk/jogging 3x a week. This 18 N 4 thing, sounds a little crazy but if you get word that it works then it's worth a try.

Instead of Atkins, I strongly recommend the South Beach diet. It is similar to Atkins for the first two weeks, but seems to be a little healthier in the long run. You can lose 7 to 13 pounds in 2 weeks very easily. Then it becomes a way of life and not a "diet."

Good luck!

G.,
I have not tried this diet, but I too and interested to see what kind of diet that you are talking about..

On the other hand there was a girl i worked with that tried the "Daniel's Fast" diet. It is very disciplined. You can eat anything you want except meats, sweets, and processed flours. Basically you eat fruit, veggies, and whole grains. The girl i worked with lost 20 pounds in three weeks (which is the longest i think you are supposed to do it for). Google daniels fast. It will give you all the details.

GOOD LUCK!

A nurse friend of mine used to always do the "Cardiac" diet and said she would lose about 10 lbs at a time. It goes for three days, then you can eat "normally" again as long as you dont splurge. I just google it and you can find the 3-day plan.

No, but have done the turbo slim plan...10lbs, 10inches, 10 days. It works but it is only a ki8ck start to a routine exercise program. I love my trainer and he has helped shape my body better than I could ever have done on my own! I know I have tried for years! I have two children and my body was never really that "in shape" to begin with. After having the kids I found I was even more unpleased with the way i felt and looked. I tried this program and liked it but soon lost interest in doing it on my own...low motivation! Tony is a wonderful motivator and he really listens to my needs and wants. I love that his fitness studio is small and privet. He has now started a new Boot Camp program that is self phase. I love it!

Hello and good luck with your weight loss. First off, any diet that claims you loose 18 lbs in 4 days is not good. That is mainly water weight loss, I hope. If you actually loose 18 lbs in 4 days this would be metabolic disaster. It is actually hard to tell you without knowing your history. I will tell you the most important weight loss details. First, a good protien breakfast, never skip breakfast, this starts your metabolism and sets it through the day. Try to eat six small meals a day, or snack in between on veggies fruits, and, if you are not alergic, eat nuts. Protien is a good friend to good weight loss, it maintains muscle tone which keeps you from loosing muscle mass through weight loss. Drink pure fruit juice not from concentrate. If you are not caffiene sensitive, try 2 cups of coffee in the morning, this will help with water retention. If you try to loose wieght through not eating it will make your metabolism slow down and you will end up gaining weight. So eat good, drink fluids, and remember your' body needs a certain amount of fats and sugars to sustain, so you don't have to deprive yourself of some of your favorite deserts. Just keep them in moderation. Hope this will help you. Good luck and stay healthy more than skinny.

Ok yeah it messes with your body to loose that much weight that fast but like someone else said we have all been there! I was once in a wedding like four days after a c-section, I was like Hello not pregnant but still look it fat butt! Oh well, I sucked it up and held my baby the whole time! heheheheh like hello see just had a baby!
Anyhow, I agree, when I need to shed a couple extra lbs in a couple of weeks I do hard core atkins too my husband does it and sheds serious weight. He usually gains it all back the first chance he gets but he looks and feels good while doing it! Its hard to find time to exersice with kids but if you just walk or run or bike or do laps around the dining room table it helps, every step helps! Anyhow, good luck and I am sure you look fabulous!

I have never heard of this diet, but it sound like what you are losing that quickly is water weight which comes off quickly anyway when you start using clensing diets or extreme diets.

I'm not a dietition or a Dr and I really don't like fad diets, but some things to ask yourself before you try any diet is to why you are wanting to try it? Is it safe? Are you having to reduce/sacrifice certain food groups (diets should be balanced)? How long are you expected to be on this diet and do you run the risk of gaining the weight right back plus more? Where does your diet take you after you've reached your first plateau?

I'm doing a weight management program that is a lot slower, but the pounds seem to be staying off, even after a slip-up or two.

Hi G., Just wanted to add my two cents from a practical perspective. Weight loss is simple calories in vs. calories used. A lb is approximately 3,000 calories, so to lose 18 lbs you need to burn about 54,000 more calories than you take in and in 4days that is dangerous and pretty much impossible. I just worked out hard for 40 minutes on the eliptical(level 11) and burned about 240 calories to give you an idea. I wish you luck in jump starting your body and losing some quick weight to give yourself that boost of confidence, and wanted to add a little reality to the situation.

You've gotten some good responses already. I'm not doing any certain diet, but I have increased my protein intake, added brown rice, whole wheat pasta (in moderation), try to eat more fruit and veggies and also snack on raw nuts (not salted or roasted), mainly almonds. I try to eat fat free or low fat yogurt as a mid-morning snack and also like low-fat string cheese as a snack.

Also, when you're just standing around, watching your children do something, waiting on water to boil, watching a television show, try to do arm exercises, squats, etc. You can use up calories instead of just standing there. I'm sure with 2 boys, that's not an issue, but it's a thought! I think walking at least 30 min. a day is very good for you. Hopefully you can find an indoor track, shopping mall, community center. Good luck and let us know how you did.

As a personal trainer I suggest, as always, to refrain from any "quick fix" weight loss diet. Doing something drastic such as trying to lose that amount of weight in such a short period of time really messes up your body/metabolism and sets you up for failure, including added weight gain once you return to a normal way of eating. The research is out there to prove that for anyone to diet in such a way you are certain to not only gain the weight back that you lost on a "quick fix" plan, but you will put on more weight than what you lost. Is that worth it?
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

I don't do diets they don't work. The only thing that has worked for me time and, time again is eat less work out more. So to anyone who really is serious about losing the wt. just do what I do. I eat a light breakfast, small portion of lunch(remember we are now eating for one)so get your plate then divide it in half meaning fix your plate and, only eat half of what is on it. Do not eat any thing after 6pm. If you get hungry drink water. Or eat fresh fruit or veggies. Nothing else after 6pm that is the secret.Soon your stomache will get used to only eating at certain times and, little portions of food you can eat what ever you want just cut back on the portion size and, once a month or every three months clean out your system take a laxative to help keep your system clean and, help keep you healthy as well try it. It will take work but, you will stay slim or just keep your normal wt. down it will work. You might not get to be a size 6 but, you won't get any bigger either that is for sure. I am still a size 8 after having my two son's. Let me know what happens.
