Any Suggestions to Help with Congestion?

My almost 5 month old is always congested, has been since birth. Dr suggested humidifier, which we use, i even upgraded to a nice one with a filter. We also use saline drops and use a nose sucker to get what i can see. Sometimes he really seems to be struggling to breath, anyone got any suggestions that may help?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

No smoking, do live in the country though. We have been elevating his mattress. I will ask about seeing specialist. I was hoping once the humidity increases this summer it might improve. Thanks

Is it year round or only during high allergen seasons? If it's year round then yes, I'd probably see a specialist at this point too. If it's more seasonal then I'd just keep him on a steady trickle of allergy meds.

Maybe keep his head raised when he sleeps so things drain??

I would go see ENT.

I think you are doing what I would have done - humidifier, saline drops, nose sucker (those work great) - but congestion or stuffiness is from an inflamed nose. Ear Nose Throat would be able to help you figure out why your baby is always congested. A baby shouldn't be all the time - just if the air is dry (like turning heat up in winter and air gets dried out), or say from a cold. But if he's frequently congested - time to see a specialist. That's what I would request.

Also - raising head up at night (upping the head part of your mattress underneath, so slight elevation), or keeping him in an upright-ish chair during day so not fully laying flat.

Anyone smoke in the house? that can really irritate a little one's nose. Same with dust too. So even maybe trying a air purifier. Some people swear by them. Even just for the baby's room.

Good luck :)

Better living through chemistry. Ask his pediatrician to recommend an OTC decongestant.
