We just found out that we are pregnant with baby #2! We could not be more thrilled or excited that God has blessed us again. We want to tell our parents in a creative way. They have been waiting impatiently for a while begging us to have another. Any ideas?

Congrats! We wrapped up empty grandparent frames and wrote inside 'to be populated in 9 months'. They loved it.

We handed out birthday invites, under date we calculated out 9 months and said "estimated date xx/xx/xx", name "to be determined", etc....they opened them and it took a few minutes of confused looks until they got it.

Grandparents Day was Sept.7th. If you did not recognize them in any way then, you could have a belated Grand-parents Day celebration. Serve two different desserts or present them with two cards or gifts, whichever the budget will bear.

Hi C. and congrats to you!!

To tell my family about my first, we took them to a restaurant under the assumption that we were just getting together for dinner with the family. Prior to the dinner, I made some computer printouts that said something to the effect of "Tonight's Specials" and first on the menu was Precious Baby Girl-A fine blend of smiles and sweetness tossed in with the very best from Mommy and Daddy.........so on and so forth. I did the same for a boy--I just found some fancy food descriptions and played off of those. At the bottom I said "Surprise! We are expecting. We love you, K. and Jay". I went to the restaurant early and asked them if we could tape them to the inside of the menu. They thought it was a fun idea and were willing to participate--they even took pictures for us! Everything went off without a hitch and my parents were so surprised!!! My mom has the insert framed on her desk! Good Luck!

My in-laws were creative with both their girls. For the first, they had everyone in the family over for dinner. Since it was close to Christmas, it was no big surprise when they handed each of us a present. We opened them to discover shirts that labelled each of us (Mine had "Aunt J." embroidered on it). As soon as each of us read our shirts and got what the message said, we got so excited!

For the first they had tried so hard to tell everyone in the family at the same time so nobody would be hurt that someone else was told first, but it was really hard to arrange, so for the second, they did something entirely different. They went on Snapfish, got a cute picture of their toddler looking really excited, and made up a postcard with her announcing she was going to be a big sister, with all the pertinent information. Then Snapfish mailed it out to all the people they wanted to send it to. Easy and not all that expensive and a good way to go, considering the family is kind of scattered. You should have seen all the phone calls of congratulations rolling in!

Anyway, good luck on announcing the new one! There are a lot of good ideas here!

Congrats! We wanted the same thing, so I had a shirt made for my 1 1/2 year old son... the front said, "I've got a secret..." the back said, "I'm going to be a big brother!" We brought my son to each of the grandparents houses and asked grandma to change his clothes and diaper. Then I quickly got out the camera to video the whole thing. Went off without a hitch!!! And best of all, my son got to be a big part of all of it. We decided to get our moneys worth and brought him to church in the shirt to tell all of our friends there as well... everyone LOVED it!

We sent flowers to the grandparents with a card that said, "Congrats Granny & Grandpa" "Get ready for #2, Can you Guess WHO?" My parents have 6 daughters and my husbands parents have 4 kids, so they both had fun guessing. Plus they got to announce to the rest of the family by calling and asking as they finally reached the right daughter. It was fun and exciting. Congrats on your new addition. V.

I sent my mom and my husbands mom both flower arrangements to work. On the card it read something like 'Hi Granny/ Nana, guess what?? I'm going to be a big sister!!'. It didn't take long for the news to travel and before I knew it, my phone was ringing off the hook with congratulations!

Good luck to you and your family!

when my sister FINALLY got pregnant she wrapped up new born diapers and gave them to mom and her inlaws as a gift....

another way is to give a baby themed dinner... baby back ribs, baby corn, baby greens in the salad, and anything else you can think of that has baby in the name... play a lulabye cd as background music...

good luck and have fun...

When I was pregnant with both of my children, I did not tell anyone until after the 3rd month, just in case mother nature needed to intervened with the pregnancy. With my second pregnancy, I wrapped up a baby doll with a sash on it that said baby August, and gave it to my in-laws at Christmas. At the same Christmas time, my parents asked when we were going to have another, and I answered, "How about August?" Needless to say, both sets of parents were very happy!

There are a few companies that come to your house and decorate your yard for the occasion. One is storkdelivery.com.

It was either this one or another one that came to my in-laws and decorated the yard to announce the first grandchild (my son).

It was great to have the neighbors congratulate them and to see their surprise.

Hi,

When we found out we were pregnant with our second we bought our older daughter a shirt that say's I am the new big sister and had her wear it to my mom's house. The shirt said it all. I also took her picture in it and emailed it to my friends.

Also, I am a senior midwife student. I had my second baby at home. It was an incredible experience. Research has shown that birth with a midwife is healthier and safer for the mother and the baby. If you would like to know more about midwifery care I would be happy to answer any questions. You should also watch the documentary called, The Business of Being Born.

Congratulations!

This may sound corny today but I once got a double frame, you know those that are hooked together and you have two frames connected. On one side I put pink felt and on the other side I put blue. Then on the pink side I had a big blue question mark and of course on the other side I had a big pink question mark. We went over to my parents and I gave them this nice wrapped gift. They kept asking why I brought them a gift and I just told them because I thought they were special. They opened the gift and looked at it for a while, it wasn't registering and all of a sudden they went nuts and were so excited. They kept that frame out until my baby was born and then we replaced the felt with new pictures of their new grandchild.

This may be corny, but it just came to me.

Create your own Knock, Knock card.

The cover can have a picture of the family knocking on their door or just standing outside of a door...Knock! Knock! Automatic response should be "Who's there?" And when they open up the card....

Insert your message...ideas...picture of a baby carriage and the words Baby #2.

Let us know what you end up doing in the end. :-)

We told friends and family of our #2 by the first child wearing a shirt that said "Big Sister" on it and I had one that said Baby Under Constuction. I didn't bring attention to it with some people and they didnt find out until I asked if they liked our new shirts. Or I would just ask them if they liked our new shirts right away. It was cute and a good photo op! :)

Another cute idea that I wanted to do... get a picture of you with your husband touching your belly and your child kissing your belly (even if it is flat right now) and make a faux Parents magazine cover with special little "article glimpses" on the front.

Make a tshirt for the 2 yr old that says "I'm the BIG BROTHER", or sister. (You didn't specify in your "about me".) Let him/her put their handprints w/ tshirt paint. Maybe 1 blue and 1 pink? Then put it on for the next visit to gma and gpa's and see how long it takes them to notice! :)

We had our second child the week before Christmas, but when we first found out,we kept it secret for quite awhile. When we decided to tell our parents, we made out our Christmas list and gave it to them. OF course some of the things on there were baby products mixed in with personal things we wanted. What a look on their faces when they read what we had requested. They were all surprised with that.

One thing that I did with my parents and my husbands parents was I got a card from hallmark for expecting and wrote in the card that it was positive and the look on their faces was great. My Mom just started crying with joy. You could also scan a sono picture and e-mail it to them. Whatever you decide to do, good luck and congrats.

Congrats!! How about having your parents over for dinner and serving small/mini foods. You can start out with like baby carrots and those little baby corns and some dip. Or you can serve the little bagel bites pizzas. You could go as far as setting the table with baby/toddler place settings and utensils. I'm sure there are other small/mini foods out there. Just look around and have fun!

We just recently announced our second and tried to be creative. With my MIL she is moving into a new house and we called and asked her if she had room in her new house for the 4 of us. It took her a minute but it clicked and the screaming began. With my mom and sister I called them on 3 way (they had been tracking my cycle hoping we would get pregnant) and told them that (in a sad voice) "well I took a test and I'm sad to say that we're pregnant" Screaming began. The way I told my husband was I went and bought a baby teddy bear that said baby on the chest and Sat morning I woke up before he did and just set it on his chest. He asked me if I was sleeping with teddy bears now. I said yes and left it at that. It took him a minute to realize what it was after looking at it a couple of times and being half asleep but as soon as he figured it out he was really excited.
Congratulations and have fun with telling the news.

For husband's parents (who nagged forever about baby #2) it was his mom's birthday. We made her a shirt as part of her gift that said "Two grandkids are better than one" and wrapped it up.

For my family we made a shirt that said "I'm gonna be a BIG SISTER" and had our oldest wear it and let everyone figure it out on their own.

They sell iron on paper that you can put in your printer at home. I bought it at Hobby Lobby, though I am sure just about any arts and crafts store has it. They also sell t-shirts for really cheap as well.

Congrats and good luck!

I wrote it on a some bibs that I picked out that were blank and with a permant marker wrote I love my family and mailed it to htem. It was fun waiting for the calls on what each of them would say. Also a friend of mine told her family that she needed to take one last family vacation together before they were not able to travel...Her parents put 2 and 2 together and that was neat to see. Another idea is to get your first child a t-shirt and allow them to wear it to grandma's and they can put it together that way.

how about have a dinner or barbecue at your home or some similar type of fun family gathering, play a few family games, one of them being a "scavenger hunt"? write a note, leave clues to the next one, finally ending in something like a baby rattle or binky. or, play a game like charades or win, lose, or draw where the clues have to be drawn and guessed. another idea is if your family likes to solve riddles...write one of your own! or you can bake a mardi gras king cake and hide a baby figurine in it. make sure you note where the figurine is and then guarantee that one of your parents will find it and of course ask "what's this?" and gratz on new baby!

I like the ideas of having your 2 year old wear a shirt that announces it for you!! Depending on how far along you are and how long you want to wait before you tell everyone.. I had a picture of my ultra sound and put it in a real cute "BABY" frame and wrapped it and had my parents open it together. You could still do the frame thing, but maybe find a cute poem or just write something cute in there like "Coming soon..." and include your due date!
