This year has to be the worst for asthma. I have three kids that are seeing a pulmonologist for asthma also. They also take the pulmicort, but have contracted bronchitis twice in a row. There asthma has been extremely bad so they put them on a higher dose of pulmicort. My youngest is 2 and she takes what the 4 yr old is taking it seems to be helping some. I have been doing extra midnight treatments also. Hope that helps.

Hi C.,
My 4 year daughter always has bad asthma attacks right before winter and right after that used to put her in the hospital over night. I could not give her anything over the counter because I would have to go to the hospital within a half hour cause it would make her not be able to breath. Her new doctor in Tallmadge found a prescription cough syrup that has been amazing last winter was the first winter since she was 1 that she has not had to go to the hospital for this. Anytime it seems like she is getting a cold I start her on this. She has the pulacort and the albuterol for her nebulizer but doesnt do anything compared to to this. It is called IC Carbofed DM Syrup HIT, it is for cough and congestion. He started her on this last year and we started with a baby dosage for a newborn to make sure she could take and went well she is till at a small dosage but does wonders!!!

I started using safer cleaning products in my house instead of the stuff in the stores. There have been many testimonies that this has helped many kids with asthma. Not sure if it is something you would be interested in. If you are shoot me an email at ____@____.com

My almost 4 year old suffers from the same thing. I had him in the hospital in june with an asthma attack. The doctor suggested him seeing a pulmonary doctor, which now my son takes the albuteral like yours, but also flovent, singulair, and zantac. I know that this has helped in tremondously. If your son hasn't taken most of these or seen a pulmonary doctor, I would advice for you to do so. They do help alot. Hope this helps. Have a good day.

My son was in the same boat..and the doctor said the same thing. I switched doctors and she kept him on the Pulmicort but also added Singulair 5mg dosage once per day. I've gone from having to call the doctor at LEAST 1 a month and 2 hospital stays per season to a happy go lucky kid who can run and play like nobody's business!! He still has an albuterol inhaler...but that's only on an as needed basis. He hasn't used it not once in the last 3 months!!

GOOD LUCK!!

I don't know what the age requirements are for the meds, but my daughter has seen marked improvement and a LOT less illness since being put on Flovent. Her type of asthma may not be the typical type as it only flares when she gets sick (cold or virus from others). She takes Flovent in the spring and fall/winter when she would typically get ill and it has prevented things from getting worse. She also does not have allergies.

I really do understand how upset and worried you are. It's awful for everyone when the asthma is bad. Please do check into Flovent. I had a nurse practioner tell me once she believes it is saving lives.

Hi C.,
My name is A., My daughter has severe allergies and the Dr put her on zyrtec, after a month she was still suffering and not breathing so great. I decided to take her off the med after a month because she had gained about 8lbs all in the belly area. She started seeing our family chiropractor for her allergies in late may about 3x a week, and her allergies have been a non issue ever since then! I feel better that she is not on all kinds of drugs. It may sound crazy but I would definitely try a holistic approach. When your spine is out of whack it affects the brain stem and that is where the respritory control center is. I would give it a try, and I hope you do you could see results very quickly. If you'd like the name of my chiropractor let me know! GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Has she been to an allergist? Sometimes and i know it is drastic, but getting rid of carpet and pets can help alot, or an air purifier.

i know what your dealing with. your doc can put her on alavert for the allergies. its the tablet that disolves in her mouth and tastes good. my son is a severe asthmatic and he's on albuturol, singular, advair and alavert. the singular helps with the symptoms in the lungs and allergies. every kid is different cause my youngest is not as bad as him. is your child seeing a pediatrition for this or a pulminologist? the diff is the docs.

Hi, My daughters are all grown now, they are 27,25 and 20. They have all had asthma at some point in time. I also have asthma. This year has really been bad for me also. I had to return to the allergist and start shots. Does your daughter see and Allergist. Shots seemed to help my daughters when they were younger. My one daughter started taking them when she was 4 and took them till she was 11yrs. After that the only thing she seemed to have problems with was cigarette smoke. I was just put on xopenex, in place of albuterol. It seems to help me, not sure if 4yrs can take that. I see Dr.H.C. Nataraj M.D. in Grove City, Oh on Kelner Dr. He seems to know what he is doing. He has helped me a lot. He has other office's around town. Phone number is ###-###-#### that is the number to the E. Broad St. or ###-###-####.

Hi C.,

Have you tried taking your children to a Chiropractor? I have found this to be very helpful...asthma, allergies, even ear infections! I have my children on a nutrient drink (BioNutritonic)from a company called BIOPRO Technology. If you want more information, please email me at ____@____.com suggestion is to find a Holistic or Alternative doctor as well as a good Chiropractor. I'm glad I have. My 2 children rarely get sick and if the do, it is VERY short lived...no Antibiotics ever! I feel children should not be on all these different medications...Supplementation of Nutrients is by far safer for your children as well as us adults. Peolpe are not drug deficient they are Nutrient dificient.

God Bless. L.

I also have an almost 4 yr old that is suffering with the same thing except his hasn't been diagnosed yet because I keep getting the run around. On Oct 10th I finally got him an appt with a dr. from Akron Childrens Hosp. that has an office in Canfield as well. I also am trying to get the dr to refer him to our family allergist. Both asthma and allergies run in the family but the doctors keep blowing off his continuous symptoms and saying it is viral. I never heard of a viral thing lasting 6+ months.
Good Luck with your battle! I also would love any advice you may have on the subject.

Hi C.,
My 8 year old son has allergy related asthma, which I don't know if that's the same as your child, but I too tried every OTC and nasal prescription there was out there, finally the peditrician tried Singular 5mg tablets and they have been working now for the past 5 months. I noticed at one point when I hadn't filled the script for a couple of days and he didn't have it, he was worse. Its just a suggestion, one that worked for me. Good Luck!

Hi C.,

I couldn't but to respond. I have a 10 year old son that has severe Asthma (the most fatal) he was hospitalized 2 years ago from a attack that came on suddenly (we were luckly) Thankfully I have a Awesome Doctor. My son has had it since he was a baby and it took the right doctor to finally get it under control. Yes I to have the nebulizer, Albuterol, pulmacort inhalers been there done that. I really think you need to find a new Doctor they have come a long way with the different meds their is no reason why your little one should be suffering. This time of year is usally really bad for my son, However he has been on the allergy shots for 2 1/2 years and takes only one inhaler a day called asthmatic he has not had a attack since that last time in the hospital. I still keep a epi pen on hand (thankfully never had to use it) The best advice I can give you is find a good doctor if you are interested here is the info on the one we use (she is great and so is the staff) Dr. Cynthia Cookingham 5885 s. main street clarkston ###-###-####. Trust me I know about all the sleepless nights watching your child making sure they are still breathing. Good Luck to you.

Hello C.!

My name is L.. What do you clean your home with and what do you wash your laundry with? If it is Tide, bleach or cheer these types of products have been link to allergies, cancer, eczema and even ADD/ADHD. Also you want to watch out for carpet cleaners. These products are toxic and contain harsh chemicals. Also is your daughter on a supplement? It would help if she was on a supplement with Fructose Compounding (simply a mineral delivery system)which increases the asborption of important nutrients. I know of people who had children with eczema once they made the change they could not believe the difference it made in their childs condition.

Contact a Pediatric Asthma and Allergy Specialist for an appointment. My son (age 9) and daughter (whose name is also Kaitlynn spelled exactly like yours and just turned 7) and myself all have allergies and Asthma and since changing to Dr. Savliwala all of our symptoms have been managed well. Prior to Dr. Savy we were always sick, using the nebulizer, orapred, antibiotics etc.... I don't have his number this second but can get it if you'd like. His office is at Woodward Avenue and Square Lake Road in Bloomfield Hills. What a coincide that our daughters names are identical.

Good Luck

Hello C.

My name is C. also. Get a cool air vaporizer and put it in her room at night, with a couple of drops of lavender oil. The lavender relaxes the bronchials. Lavender was often used by the Native Americans for respiratory problems. It also gets rid of bacterial pneumonia.

Lay low on the dairy products for a while.

Good Luck and God Bless....Chrissy
