If you're looking for something special to mark the occasion, what about a necklace? Make her feel like a big girl and something that's a keepsake.

A bike?
Scooter?
Doll?
A Leapster?
Pretend play items? Costumes?
Art things?
Her own cute bedspread?
Video her, with your growing tummy... and just have fun. I did that with my eldest, when I was pregnant with my 2nd child. She CHERISHED that. She was so... bonded and proud, of her 'brother' in my tummy. She loves watching the video, still, even if she is 9 years old now.

OH! Also, via www.kodakgallery.com make a photo ornament of your daughter and newborn. I do that every year, since my kids were born. It is special. And one day when my kids are all grown up, I will give them their photo ornaments, for their own tree and family.
It is a cherished... memento and shows how your kids grow up every year.
Kodak has great photo things.

You are in the same position that my oldest daughter is, except her oldest is a boy and SO excited to be a big brother!! Does she have a play kitchen?? My grandson SO adores his...it is a centerpiece of a lot of their play.
One think that my dear mother got together for my own daughters years ago that they loved and played with for YEARS....she took an old suitcase and spray painted it gold...then she filled it to the brim with dress up clothes...hats, boas, shoes, flowy skirts, lacey blouses, clunky old jewelry etc etc. They ADORED it and we just kept replacing pieces as they grew. Anything to help her use her imagination at this age is a big success.

I think a life-size baby doll (and maybe a cradle and/or carriage) would be perfect. She can take care of her baby while you take care of your baby. My kids have a book about this-it's really cute. :)

My 4 year old loves those painting books! They come with a tray of watercolors and a book of themed character pages (Cars, Tinkerbell, etc.). She will literally sit there and paint for a good 30-45 minutes. That might be a nice gift to keep your older daughter entertained if you have to feed the baby or whatever. My daughter was 2 when my son was born but her favorite thing was to put her baby in the stroller and we would go on walks together. I know it's getting colder and who knows, you may already have snow up there, but we walked a lot b/c it was good exercise for my big one and got us out of the house.

Does she have a Barbie. From this age on Barbie is the best. Many boys also have a "secret" Barbie.

Here is a whole list I created of great gifts for little girls. Other moms have added to it so it is pretty robust. Ideas range from the girly (American Girl doll) to the crafty (Melissa & Doug kits) to the tom boy (LEGO's or bug trapping kit.) Hope this helps!

I also have a 4 yr old princess. My daughter is asking Santa for the Little Mommy Real Doll. Its really adorable, most expensive doll i have ever bought, but Santa has to come through! She may like having a special one since you will be having a baby too! :)
