Hi all you mommies!!! Maybe some of you can help me! My 14 month old just recently got a stomach bug for a couple days and was throwing up...poor thing. Well, before the stomach bug he was really only eating baby food...that's right baby food. I have had the hardest time getting him to eat anything eles. At one point he was eating speggeti and then one day he hated it. Then he was eating mac-n-cheese....when he wanted to..and then in the mornings I got him eating waffles and then he LOVED french fries anytime he could get them! But other than that nothing eles!! So now that the stomach bug is gone he is even more pickier! Now he doesn't even want the baby food so it seems like he is not eating much. I just need advice and maybe some ideas on what to try and feed him. I have tried to make different things but so much food is going to waste because he won't eat it. Thanks in advance!!!

What can I do next?

I agree with the other posters, he may not want to eat right now because he's still getting over the bug, or remember throwing up and how it made him feel, so is affraid to eat much at the moment. If you are concerned about his nutrition, then I suggest Pediasure. It's like old people Ensure, but for kids. My 9 year old was VERY picky when she was your little one's age, and wouldn't eat anything, I was so concerned that I talked to my Dr about it, and he said the same thing the other poster said..."She's not going to starve, she'll eat when she gets hungry" although he suggested I give her some Pediasure to make sure she gets the nutrition she needs. So I gave her at least 1 or 2 a day in a sippy cup, because she didn't have any problem in drinking anything, just eating, and after a couple of months, she suddenly started eating the things the rest of us were eating. I don't make seperate meals for any of my kids, they eat what I provide, or they don't eat. Of course I make things that they all like, I don't intentionally make Brussel Sprouts or anything, knowing they won't eat it.

I have a picky eat who is 5 and he has always been that way. He is wired to be picky, I guess. If he likes waffles then try toast. I use 100% whole grain bread with a little margarine and Simply Fruit spread. You can sneak califlower, cut up finely, into mac and cheese. Will he drink OJ with his breakfast or snack? What about yogurt, dry cereal-the lightly sweetened variety like Honey Nut Cheerios, soft cheese, flavored oatmeal, rice. When my son was little, I would put a little bit of the food on his finger so he could taste it. Does he feed himself? He may be willing to try different things and eat more if he is able to do it on his own. Just keep offering and you will come across the foods that he enjoys.

I used to have a picky eater until his pedi gave me this advice: do not make separate meals for him. He will not starve. When he gets hungry, he will eat. Introduce each new food individually, and wait a couple of days before offering something new (due to allergic reactions). Offer it to him 3 times. If after trying it 3 times and he still doesn't like it, accept that and know he doesn't like it and do not try it again for a while.

My son is now 3 and will eat pretty much anything we give him. There are a few things that I know he doesn't like, but it is really nice to be able to cook one meal for all of us. He now even likes his veggies.

Good luck to you!

My daughter has been picky since day one. She had a stomach bug a month ago and she seemed to get even more picky as a result. I thought I was going to go crazy! It took her well over a week to get over the stomach flu and a little longer then that to get her normal appetite back. He's probably still getting over being sick. Just hang in there; he should bounce back soon. In the mean time just yesterday I found an EXCELLENT article at askdrsears.com about picky toddlers. http://www.askdrsears.com/html/3/T030800.asp

Hang in there and keep offering him healthy food. fresh fruits and vegies, anything you can think of. He will come around eventually. My oldest was very picky. He outgrew it but it took a few years.
